Yes, this was my Thomas, but sadly it doesn't have much except 2 horses 1 cow and 3 pigs. Perhaps later they taxed shop owners. Thanks though. Joan, I would try the Maryland State Archives http://msa.maryland.gov/ if you are not able to find the information in their online listings then contact them through the link at the bottom of the page and ask them directly. I have found them very helpful and think that any Maryland researcher should have their page bookmarked for fast access. Here is the link to the Washington Co. MD GenWeb site which includes links to several Washington County Libraries and Historical Societies which might hold the documentation you need. http://midatlantic.rootsweb.ancestry.com/MD/washington/ Thanks to Dorinda Davis Shepley, the Frederick Co. MD rootsweb site has a number of Washington Co. listings included. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~midmdroots/ If you are not able to find his profession by tax listings you might want to redirect your search to local directories. No, not at the moment. I am in touch with a descendant, and perhaps he knows. According to the Clark County web site some people came from New England, especially to Twp Harmony where James Walker ended up. Joan, Try the Washington County Free Library at http://www.whilbr.org/ . Under Collection at top right, select Washington Taxes and underneath for Words or Phrases enter Hudson. Thomas is listed on pages a and c . It doesn't give his occupation but it does tell what he was being taxed on. These are 1803-1804 Tax records. I have no proof that this Thomas is yours so read with that in mind. Joan, You might also check Wrights newspaper extracts - there are frequent runaway apprentice notices or new places of business etc. I would check my volumes but am in the middle of a project I need to finish. That Ohio marriage license for James Victor Ankeney is what raised the question for me. By the way, there is no son by that name in the 1920 census either, but again like in 1910 there is a Henry V. living with the family. mr ----- Original Message ----- From: Blah BlahBlah Sent: 08/07/13 10:40 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MDWashin] Howard Newcomer Ankeney P.S. Woops! One day will learn to read. Did a bit more newspaper searching and can't find any Henry. Oh, and McKey should be McKee. Obituary of Howard Newcomer Ankeney mentions Victor, no Henry. The WWI draft registration record has Henry Victor Ankeney, b. 9 July 1900, so it seems to me they're the same person and for some reason he changed his preferred name to James??? Here's a link: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KZ8F-D9K He had to sign the registration, so perhaps you could compare handwriting if you have a sample of James'. My apologies for the mix up. Sam P.S. Here's a link to James V. Ankeney's 1924 marriage to Helen Armstrong--her maiden name was Hall (her father Wm. T. Hall). The image there shows James Victor's birth day/month as 9 July. More proof they're the same? On Wed, Aug 7, 2013 at 12:15 PM, Mike Rohrer <[email protected]> wrote: > Sam, Thanks, but Howard Edwin is a different son, born not in 1900, > but ca. 1904.
