Tattershall kinsmen of early Maryland 1640 Edmund Smith of (c1610-aft 1670) Transported to Maryland 7/28/1640 by Richard Lelland Edmund Smith the son of Richard Smith ( - 1624) and Frances Tattershall, (c.1602 –1693c.), her 1st husband. Frances the daughter of Edmund Tattershall, of Brook, Gent. (c.1595 – aft 1633) and Katherine Buryton ( - bef 1625) daughter of Thomas Buryton, of Streatley, Gent and Joan Wyer Edmund Smith, a grandson to William Smith, of Whitechurch, (1557-1627) Berkshire and Constance Tattershall, of Stapleford, Wiltshire (c1570-1610) Constance Tattershall the daughter of George Tattershall, II of Stapleford, Wiltshire and Katherine Perkins. 1642 Edmund Tattershall was transported to Maryland by Fr Thomas Copley 4/1/1642 Along with 19 other able men, none know relatives to Tattershall. There is no record found of lineage, nor origins of this Edmund Tattershall. Yet, there is speculation that this Edmund is allied to George (s) Tattershall, of Stapleford in Wiltshire, England 1642 John Pile, Gent, (c1617-1676) of Sarum, Wiltshire, transported himself, wife Sarah (1610-1678c), with family to Maryland in the spring of 1642. Sarah Tattershall is one of three known daughters (the others Frances Tattershall Smith, & Katherine Tattershall Aprice) of Edmund Tattershall of Brook (Wilts) & Katherine Buryton and granddaughter of George Tattershall, II of Stapleford, Wiltshire & Katherine Perkins. Pile suspected as allied to Sir Gabriel Pyle, of Salisbury, Wiltshire Note: segments of the Aprice (Appryce) family also residents of St. Mary’s Co., Maryland. In the USA Aprice changed to Price. 1648 William Tattershall (1637 – 1670) and along with his sister Mary Tattershall (1630 – 1677) were transport as children to Maryland by John & Sarah Tattershall Pile in 1648, Sarah being their sibling. William, and Mary, Tattershall are the children of Edmund Tattershall of Brook and his 2nd wife Elizabeth Strong. Sarah Tattershall Pile, issue of the 1st wife Katherine Buryton, of Streatley, Berkshire, England These Maryland Tattershall siblings left three known brothers and one known sister, also issues of Katherine Buryton in England. That would b John, of Brook (Wiltshire), Peter of Chiddock, (Dorset), Lawrence of Odstock (Wiltshire), Frances Tattershall Kempe, Weldon, Smith & Katherine Tattershall Aprice. 1653 Mary Wells (1635-1698) the Daughter of Richard Wells, MD and Puritan, (1609-1667) came from Virginia with wife Frances White (121c –aft 1678) with family to Maryland abt 1653. Frances White a granddaughter of Richard White of Hutton Hall (1550-1614) Mary Plowden of Berkshire (b. 1546). Mary’s sister Anne (c1540-1635) was the spouse of Francis Perkins, I. (aft 1550 –1616) Francis’ sister was Katherine Perkins of Ufton, Berkshire, England whose spouse was George Tattershall, II of Stapleford, Wiltshire. This George and Katherine the grandparents to William and sister Mary of St. Mary’s County Maryland. 1662 George Plowden, II (1663-1713) of Resurrection Manor, SMC, MD was the grandson of Sir Edmond Plowden Colonial Governor (1590-1659) and Mablel Marriner. Sir Edmond, the grandson of Sir Edmund Plowden of Plowden Hall, Shropshire, England (1518-1585) and Katherine Sheldon (1520-1586). Katherine & Sir Edmund, Catholic lawyer and Lord Propietor of New Albion, eldest daughter was Anne Perkins (1540-1635) and the wife of Francis Perkins, I of Upton, Berkshire (1550-1616). Francis Perkins’ sister Katherine (1544-aft 1595) married George Tattershall, II, of Stapleford, Wilts, Gent., abt 1570. George and & Anne the parents of Edmund Tattershall, of Brook, Gent, (1595-1633) Edmund the father of William, Mary, & Sarah Tattershall (Pile), of SMC, MD Note: Edmund Plowden, a Catholic lawyer and associate of Sir Francis Englefield, led thirty-eight MPs in a protest against Parliament's reintroduction of the heresy laws. The Attorney-General commenced proceedings for contempt against the protesters, but Plowden refused to submit and the case was eventually dropped. Francis Englefield (1521-1605) married Catherine Fettpliace (c1522-1479). Catherine a descendant of William Fettiplace, of Chernot, Berkshire, Gent. Who married Joan Yate, (b.1487), Joan the daughter of Richard Yate, of Charney, Berkshire (c1435-c1494) & Joan Ashedon, (1440-1500), of Lonworth, Bershire. A direct ancestor to John Yate, of Lyford, Berkshire (1609-1654) 1664 John Yate, of Lyford, Berkshire (1609-1654) Married 1633 in Lyford, Berkshire Mary Elizabeth Tattershall, of Stapleford, Wiltshire (1610-c1659) Daughter of George Tattershall, III, of Finchampsted, Berkshire (1583-1658) & Elizabeth Biggs, of Stapleford, Wiltshire, (1564 - ) John & Mary Yate’s son is George Yate, I, Esquire who came, to Maryland c. 1664 and married Mary Wells, relic of Capt. Thomas Stockett of Berkesourne, Kent (1635-1671) arriving in MD in 1658. Mary Wells (c1635-1698) is the daughter to Dr. Richard Wells of Saltish Cornwall, Essex (1609-1667) And Frances White, of Hutton Hall, Essex, England (1622c-1679c) Jerome, Mary Well’s brother died in St. Mary’s Co. MD 1674 Note: George Yate was Deputy Surveyor of the Lord Proprietor of Maryland and one of the largest patentees of land in the Province during the late seventeenth century, and before his death had acquired a landed estate exceeding several thousands of acres.
