Was he English? There was a prominent family of Stourtons in Wiltshire, Dorsetshire and other counties in England. Following the provision in Stourton's 1714 will for his godson Stourton Edwards, there were many generations of Edwards males with the given name Stourton, including my own 4th great-grandfather Stourton (alias Strutton) Edwards of York County, South Carolina.
