SPALDING, BENEDICT & ELIZA BEAVEN Baptized William Edward Spalding, 1-12-1834, at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church. Birth date not given. Sponsor, Henrietta Beaven. Parents, Benedict Spalding & Eliza Beaven. Beaven, Eliza A, Washington (now Marion) Co, KY in 1834. m Benedict Spalding, s/o Benjamin Spalding, Sr, bond 11-7-1832, Washington Co, KY, Surety: James Samuel Spalding. This is NOT Benedict "Slick" Spalding who married 1. Mary "Polly" Hamilton 2. Eliza Elder 3. Elizabeth/Eliza McElroy This Benedict Spalding's father is Benedict/"Bennett" Spalding b. about 1743, and m. to Eleanor Fenwick b. 1750. I believe you will also find that at least one, and I believe two, of Eliza Beaven's children are being counted by many as children of her brother-in-law Louis/Lewis Ignatius Spalding, with whom she lived after her husband's death in 1848. Louis and Susanna Buckman had enough children of their own. If I recall correctly from a prior discussion, this could affect the way some relationships are viewed within the Abell, Spalding, Luckett, Rhodes, Fenwick, McElroy and Hamilton families and probably some others. HOLY NAME OF MARY CHURCH - CALVARY, KY 1798-1998, p. 2 I have that Elizabeth Mattingly, daughter of Thomas Mattingly and Ruth Cole m. first, Benedict Joseph Spalding about 1746 and second, Philip Ford, 9/30/1775 at St. Francis Xavier RCC. Not much in the way of documentation. As we discussed the other day, it's always been a question as to whether John Ford (d. 1765) m. Elizabeth Riley or Frances Riley. I still believe it was Elizabeth and their daughter Frances m. first, Henry Wimsatt and second, William Williams. Sure would like to get the question resolved. I have 15-16 children for John Ford (d. 1765). Below is what I have (as David Cummins would say, "it's not bloody guaranteed"). And yes, you'll see a few changes here. There was a Benedict A. Spalding in Washington Co. married in 1821. Also Benedict J. Spalding in Union Co., KY m. in 1842. Dave
Thanks for this data. I keep trying to straighten them out.As I understand what you said the 3 Benedict Spalding, Jr. on Washington Co. marriage index are really 2 different people? I would appreciate any help you can give me in getting the Spaldings straight.
