Elizabeth Guibert, b. before 1679, was married twice--first to Thomas Turner, Jr. and second to John Baptist Carberry, Jr. (son of John Baptist Carberry, Sr. and first wife, Ann Thompson). She was still Elizabeth Carberry as late as 1733. Will of Thomas Turner, SMC 10/31/1696-2/15/1696. Son: Thomas, personal estate and 400 ac., pt. of "St. Thomas'". Son: Joshua, personal estate; 190 ac. "Audley End"; and 150 ac. residue of "St. Thomas'". Daughter: Monica, personal estate and 200 ac. "St. Dorothy's" on the w. side of St. Clement's Bay. To: Thomas Bencroft, Robert Thompson, and William Michell, personal estate. Wife: Elizabeth (Exec.) residuary legatee of estate, real and personal. Wit: Clement Hill, Sr., William Smith, Elizabeth Dash. (Maryland Calendar of Wills). Will of Joshua Guibert, St. Mary's Co., 2/26/1713-5/16/1713. Son: Thomas and heirs, dwelling plantation on St. Clement's Bay and lands adjoining thereto. Son: Matthew and heirs, "Guibert's Chance" and the addition to same near St. Clement's Bay. Son: Joshua and heirs, about 160 ac. "Tower Hill" in Charles County, also dwelling plantation afsd. should son Thomas die without issue. Daughter: Mary, personalty. Daughter: Eliza.: Carberry, personalty in addition to that given her when she married Thomas Turner. Daughter: Ann Blackston, personalty in addition to that given her when she married John Blackston. Wife: Elizabeth, life interest in dwelling plantation and lands devised Thomas afsd. Sons Thomas and Joshua afsd., exs., and residuary legatees. Wit.: William Walker, Frances Marritt, John Marritt. (Maryland Calendar of Wills). Elizabeth Carberry, living near St. Clement's Bay in SMC, reports a runaway mulatto slave called Matthew, sometimes called Matthew Masters or Matthew Fletcher, aged about 27 years. He can pass for a white man. (The Maryland Gazette, 3/16/1733). 2. Elizabeth, b. 1647 (maiden name unknown) was married four times. First, was Col. William Evans; second was John Jordan; third was Cuthbert Scott; and fourth was John Baptist Carberry, Sr. (widower of Ann Thompson and father of JBC, Jr.). 6/4/1679: William Evans d. 3/1669 seized of a parcel of land on the e. side of St. Clement's Bay which he devised by his will to his wife, Elizabeth. She married Capt. John Jordan who died about 9/8/1678. She married Cuthbert Scott 10/28/1678. (Extracts from Chancery Court Records of Maryland, 1669-1679, MD Gen. Soc. Bulletin, Fall 1994). Chancery Court Proceedings, 1679: And the Jurors do further upon their Oaths Say That the said Coll.° William Evans dyed So Seized and possessed of the Said Severall Tracts & parcells of Land haveing before his death made his last Will & Testam.t in writeing and therein devised the Said Lands by will bearing date the tenth day of ffebruary Annoq Domini 1667 as is here Expressed viz.t I Give and bequeath unto my Dear & Loveing wife Elizabeth Evans all my Lands Goods and Chattels and what (fol. 285) soever else that doth belong & appertain unto my Estate or of Right ought to belong or appertain thereto And the Jurors do Say that the Said William Evans deceased in march Anno Domini 1669 And the Jurors afores.d do upon their oaths further Say that Elizabeth Evans Entered into the Land & held the Same dureing her widowhood and after to witt in the month of may Anno Domini 1669 She Inter married w.th Capt Jn.° Jordain and they the Said John & Elizabeth in Right of Elizabeth his wife held the Same untill the Death of the Liber C D Said John Jourdain w.th was about the Eigth of September Anno Domini 1678 And the Jurors do further Say that from the time the Said Elizabeth Entered into the premisses & held the Same dureing her widowhood & after to witt the Twenty Eigth day of October Anno 1678 She Intermarried with m.r Cuthbert Scott w.ch Said Cuthbert and Elizabeth held and Enjoyed the Same in Right of Elizabeth and being So in possession thereof and being informed and advised that the last will & Testam.t of the Said Coll.° William Evans in Some part thereof is defective and that for want of the words to her and her heir for Ever proves only an Estate for life the words heirs & assigns for Ever being not Inserted in the Said Will as they Should have been to have made an Estate of Inheritance to his wife w.ch the Said Juro.rs do verily believe was his Intention they the Said Cuthbert Scott & Elizabeth his wife by their Deed bearing date the Eighteenth day of Aprill Annoq Domini 1679 for and in p. 233 Consideration of the Summ of thirty thousand pounds of Tobacco (fol. 285) in hand paid to them the Said Cuthbert & Elizabeth by the Right Hon.ble Charles Lord Baltemore did fully Clearly and absolutely Give Grant alien Bargain Sell & Confirm unto the Said Lord Baltemore his heirs and assigns for Ever all those pieces and parcells of Land herein these presents before Expressed and that by virtue thereof his Lordship became Seized of the Sd Lands and premisses dureing the life of the Said Elizabeth Scott by Virtue of the Said Deed from the Said Scott and his wife And the Jurors afores.d do further Say that the Lands & Tenem.ts are of value by the year in all issues the Sum of Sixteen hundred pounds of Tobacco & that they find no heir and that Cap.t John Jourdein & m.r Cuthbert Scott hath for the most part Occupied the Sd Lands & Tenem.ts from the time of the Death of the Said William Evans and the issue & profits thereof hath received and his Lordship's Rent for the Same hath paid And that the Said Cuthbert Scott and Elizabeth his wife doth now Enjoy the Same as Tennants to my (fol. 286) Lord Baltemore afs.d In Testimony whereof as well the Said Corn mission.rs as the Juro.rs aforesaid have hereunto Set their hands and affixed their Seals the day and year first above Written Clement Hill sealed rs d ommisson.rs (Archives of Maryland). 9/19/1692, Elizabeth, wife of John Baptist Carberry, relict and admix. of Cuthbert Scott, dec'd is now herself lately deceased intestate (Test. One correction.....Elizabeth Guibert (daughter of Joshua Guibert I and Elizabeth Barber) had more than two husbands. Depending on who you talk to, her first husband was William Evans (although I think she was too young to have married him), her second husband was John Jourdain/Jordan, her third husband was Thomas Turner II, her fourth husband was Cuthbert Scott (that is how, John Baptist Carberry ended up with the 2,100 acres of "Hopton Park"), and her fifth husband was John Baptist Carberry.
