    3. There were 4 William Bryan(t)'s on the 1758 tax list in Charles Co., MD http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/md/charles/taxlists/ch1758txi.txt INDEX for the "1758 Charles County Tax Lists by District DL Durham Parish Lower Part NE East Newport Hundred PH Pomonkey Hundred PTW Port Tobacco West Side TU Trinity Parish Upper Hundred W&ML William & Mary Parish Lower Part Bryan John PH 26 1 Bryan Jun. The William Bryan in Trinity Parish near James & Peter Bryan (his brothers) is likely the William who died 1769. Nearby are the Carrico's. Her mother Dorothy, then to her brother Joseph went 20 acres of Maidstone. Joseph, the youngest son of Robert & Dorothy Gates, inherited considerable acreage from his father. Between 1720 & 1739 he had his inheritance resurveyed as Gates Range with a total of 867 acres. In a combination of records, some copies from Georgetown Univ. and also History of The Society of Jesus in North America Colonial and Federal (my transcription here http://freepages.family.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~boorom/carrico/mdgatesland.html) Joseph was under obligation to the Jesuits and Mortgaged (???) Gates Range to them in 1740. The in 1758 Deed Book G 3 folio 360 he deeded all of his rights to (Rev.) Bennet Neal. >From one of the documents from Georgetown Univ. is the following: 1750 Plat of Hunts Adventure. "Mr. Hunter, I have droanout part of a tract of land called Hunts venture where on I am informed won Thoumas Smout lives on and I have delivered to ????? you know how to find out the other part by the help of a ??????? and or otheres which I shall ???rm you wich is William Hagan Peter Carrico Robert Gates James Gates William Brion which I have shoud most of the bounds to. In the center of the drawing "thence toa bounded beech that I proved for my Brother in law Peter Carrico belonging all to Maidstone and from thence to an old Cows(?) post. In 1779 Rev. Bennet Neal sold to Thomas Withenton (Wethington) 79 acres of Gates Range. book V 3 folio 389. In 1794 Thomas Wethington's son finalized a resurvey of the 79 acres into Withintons Chance with a anew total of 139 acres. In 1795 Thomas Wethington's descendants sold to Thomas Water's 2/3 of this land Book N 4 folio 363. Among the heirs were Ignatius O'Bryan & Rhoday his wife, Basil O"Bryan & Eleanor his wife. I've more, but to conclude, I think the William Bryan we are discussing lived in Trinity Parish all or most of his life and couldn't be the William Bryant who married Elizabeth Douglas. I'd love to sort some of this out if it would yield more clues to the MD-->KY families. Dang those spellings! < , |/< ' /| Kat Mills
