    3. Hi Randy, I was browsing recorded wills for Edwards in St. Mary's County on FamilySearch and came across a couple of more testators named John Edwards: (1) Who was this John Edwards (of John) who died in 1782? (If the answer is in the list archives, I didn't find it.) This is a different man from John who died in 1784. I looked at that 1784 John's will, also. John Edwards (of John), last will, dated 16 Oct 1782, proved 20 Nov 1782 Wife Margaret (executrix) and two sons John and Henry (younger of two sons) Dwelling plantation to wife for life or widowhood, then to son John who is to pay £200 to son Henry https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1951-24308-31280-70?cc=1803986&wc=M9MV-NDK:n1055579305 Maryland, Register of Wills Books, 1629-1983, St. Mary's,Wills 1777-1820 vol 1-3 Image 115 of 743 images (F.H.L. 2. Linda Reno
    3. Randy, You had posted this information in November and at that time wondered if Sarah, widow of John Edwards, was a Turner as the names seemed to fall in line with the family of Edward Turner. I think you're right. Edward Turner and his wife Eleanor Wilson had 14 children, one of whom was Sarah "Sally" who was single until at least 1781. Since the first two children of John Edwards were of age in 1796, I have them born prior to 1778 (assuming the girls were at least 18). This would mean that John Edwards was married twice and that the first two children, at least, were by the first wife. Further, I'd bet the first wife was Elizabeth "Betsy" Turner, sister of Sarah. "Betsy" was born November 7, 1758. Will of Edward Turner, SMC, planter, 1/14/1772-5/1/1773. Son: Samuel, "Watson's Choice", 249 ac.; "Hingston", 50 ac., "Partner's Purchase" in Charles Co., 50 ac. Son: William, "Turner's Forest", Charles Co., 116 ac.; one negro; and a child's part of moveable estate. Son: Randolph, "Saint Vincent" in Charles Co., 50 ac. Wife: Dwelling plantation during her lifetime and then to son, Charles Turner; negro man named Guy; negro women Lucy and Valentine; and a child's part of moveable estate. Son: Joshua, negro boy James and a child's pt. of moveable estate. Son: Charles, Exec., mulatto Hannah and a horse. To: My six sons and six daughters, moveable estate. Wit: James Eden, George Goldie, Charles Reeves, Thomas Goldsmith. CODICIL: Son, Randolph, my mulatto child, William Shaw. Daughter: Betsy, a bed. Daughter: Sally, a bed. To: Nelly, a bed. Wife: As negro woman Valentine I gave her is dead, I give her my negro girl Jean. Son: Charles, to allow all my daughters to live with him as long as single and my sister Myshall as long as she lives. Son: Joseph, negro girl Rebecca. Wit: George Goldie, John Goldsmith. (Maryland Calendar of Wills). Will of Eleanor Turner, SMC, 8/20/1781-9/16/1781. Daughter: Sarah negroes named Peter and Lucy. Daughter: Eleanor, a negro named Guy; a negro girl named Lucy and her son, Jerry; and a horse which came of the mare named Punkin. Daughters: Sarah and Eleanor, the remainder of my estate equally divided. Exec.: None specified. Witnesses: George Goldie, Justinian Jordan. (St. Mary's County, Maryland Wills, 1776-1791 by Linda Reno and Joann Humphries). Now to prove it!
