linda and list.. i'm looking at john edwards d. 1743/44 and robert edwards m. mary burroughs it looks like barbary edwards wound up in orange co. va. along with a john edwards although i don't know if the john d. 1783 is connected to barbary edwards d. 1786. "An 18th Century Perspective: Culpeper County"; Compiled and Edited by Mary Stevens Jones. ---- Published by the Culpeper Historical Society, Inc,; Culpeper, Virginia, 1976. Pg 32: Will Bk C; 1783 - 1791 John Edwards; 1783, pg 52 Barbary Edwards; 1786, pg 186 it seems to me.. given the length of john edwards debt list, he's a merchant and possibly a mariner. he has no land associated with him. plater and key as creditors add to this suspicion.. all were involved with scottish tobacco merchant john glassford John Edwards 28.355 SM £118.9.5 Feb 18 1743/44 Appraisers: Robert Ford, Samuel Abell. Creditors: George Plater, Philip Key. Next of kin: Barbery Edwards, William Hazle. Administrator/Executor: Stourton Edwards. the best indication of robert edwards, who you have installed as a brother of john edwards d. 1743/44 occurs on the 1788 henry tubman oath list. on the list we have. 1. benjamin edwards 2. john of john 3. john of robert 4. hezekiah edwards 5. ignatius edwards 6. jesse edwards i keep looking at the ignatius edwards who was slated for execution by george washington, due to desertion, in overwharton parish in 1756. he is listed in va. military info as being a carpenter b. in maryland.. i think he's a st. mary's co. edwards and the edwards are crossing the river adding to the confusion. i'm inclined to think that ignatius on the tubman oath list is the issue of robert edwards and mary burroughs so as follows. 1. john 2. hezekiah 3. jesse 4. joseph 5. ignatius. mary burroughs is another matter.. her father figures to be on the tubman oath list as well but i'm leaving that alone for now. any thoughts appreciated.. thanks, greg
