    3. Yes, thanks Betty, I have those references. This was my original post and I had an O-Brien person with info/ lineage I was trying to relocate via a Rootsweb post. I lost track of her back in March of this year and didn't get her email address. This is the best current theory and I hoped to put this issue "to bed" by eliminating all other Eleanor Bryan possibilities. 1) The will of William Bryan of St. Mary's county naming a daughter Eleanor Bryan. 2) Samuel Abell had a wife Eleanor, per his will and at probate she elected her dower 1/3ds in 1777. 3) Samuel Abell settled the estate of William Bryan. 4) Abells and Bryans lived in close proximity in Beaverdam manor. 5) Ellen and Sam Abell are baptizing negro slaves in 1767 and 1770 (Beitzell-Jesuit Missions p109, 114) 5) There is an Eleanor Abell Sr. and Eleanor Abell Jr. in St. Aloysius records of "Solidarity of the the Sacred Heart of Jesus" (Beitzell-Jesuit Missions p150.) 6) Eleanor Abell dau. of Henry Bryan m. Philip Miles ca 1770. This Eleanor Abell is the niece of the elder Eleanor per Linda Reno. Eleanor Abell's maiden name is tradition and has been given as: O'Brian in Spalding Memorial copyr 1897-no sources are cited. Eleanor O'Bryan - Clements "Origins of Clements-Spalding" 1928 O'Bryan in O'Daniel's "Snatches" 1933- no sources are cited- he assume she was of immigrant Philip O'Bryan of Mathias- which is incorrect. Ellen O'Brien in Mills "Peter Mills & Mary Shirtcliffe 1936- cites Webb, Catholicity in KY p109 Finally- Elinore O'Brien Abel in DAR records (I have also seen it as Brian(t) but I forget where!) Does anyone know the source of the record that proved the Ellinore O'Brien Abel spelling for the DAR? Mary Newcomb is the earliest member to submit this ancestor, perhaps there was more than a family "tradition" to this spelling? I guess i need to get to Washington DC next. < , |/ < ' /|   Kat Mills   --- On Tue, 1/1/13, betty parsons lieber <dencyh24@yahoo.com> wrote: From: betty parsons lieber <dencyh24@yahoo.com> Subject: Re: [MDSTMARY] O'Bryan in Maryland To: mdstmary@rootsweb.com Date: Tuesday, January 1, 2013, 4:23 PM Two books indicate Eleanor O'Bryan's father is Philip, son of Matthias, son of Matthias O'Bryan.  Snatches of O'Daniel, Hamilton, and allied ancestry and history in Maryland and Kentucky Somerset, Ohio: Rosary Press, 1933, 103 pgs Origins of Clements-Spalding and allied families of Maryland and Kentucky Authors: Clements, J. Trying to settle an age old question of whether my ancestress Eleanor O'Bryan was related to Phillip or William. She and Samuel Abell had children in St. Mary's County, MD, Many Abells left for Nelson then Washington County, KY ca 1790. Being female with no will or land of her own, she was only mentioned in the early Catholic records as godparent at birth of slaves in Jesuit archives. Sorting out the O'Bryans has been a headache. I have direct Irish Ancestry from Co. Roscommon from another line, so this would be fun. < , |/ < ' /|     Kat Mills    --- On Wed, 12/19/12, gc-gateway@rootsweb.com <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> wrote: From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [MDSTMARY] O'Bryan in Maryland To: MDSTMARY-L@rootsweb.com Date: Wednesday, December 19, 2012, 9:21 PM This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
