Then a short overland trip to the Monongahela River & down it to Washington Co., PA where it forms the Ohio River. Then down the Ohio River to the "Falls of the Ohio" near present day Louisville, KY. Some families would stop to rest for months or even years. They had to change means of transport from the tow barges on the Potomac to wagons for overland portion to flat boats for trip on the Monogahela & Ohio rivers.
