MD whose will probated about 6 feb 1721/2 in st marys Co MD. Here's copy of email from Warren Forsythe of genealogy172 (at) FAIRPOINT.net compiler of database moseley2 at http://wc.rootsweb.com --email is replying to 9 dec 2008 email from Kelley Moseley of kMoseley (at) mail.twu.edu Since receiving 2002 Owsley Family History Society www.owsleyfamily.com book on Descendants of Jane Owsley Gregg, we've compiled his father as the Thomas Moseley who was indentured servant who came to MD, arriving 1669. I'd love to receive some feedback on where our reasoning may be shortsighted--- Our documentation so far is copied from our website specified below, apparently begins from page 29 in above owsley 2002 book: Page 29 continues citing page 327 of Gust Skordas, editor 1986 "The Early Settlers of Maryland" Genealogical Pub Co, Baltimore-- pointing to Thomas Moseley indentured servant from 1668-1673 in St Marys Co VA, as the apparent great grandfather of LT Robt Moseley. Mrs. Turner cites page 214 of MD Inventories and Accts Vol 15 concerning the death of Thomas Moseley ca. 1697, and that he was the only apparent candidate for the father of Robert Moseley of Poplar Hill, St Mary's Co MD whose will probated 6 Feb 1722 [doesnt say but apparent the 6 feb 1721/2 as will written 17 Dec 1721, but could be the 6 Feb 1722/3] . MD Wills 17: 89 and Inv. 7: 148 says Robt of Poplar hill left land to kids Robt ,. Patience, and Elizabeth all under age. Mrs. Turner cites MD Wills 14: 616 as evidence Barbara Mosly witnessed a will in St Mary's Co 1718 and so is likely the mother of Robert the son of Robt Moseley of Poplar Hill who died 1721 or 1722; however the 2nd wife and widow was another woman Margaret, as shown in Accts 5: 37 and 8: 157. Son Robert appears in MD records until mid- 1740's ; so he could be the Robert Moseley who appears in Frederick Co. Va records 1750's and in 1761 in a Prince William Co. Va court case. The MD to VA connection is apparently confirmed by the above Circuit court case--- because our 2000 books were seriously revised 2002 when a www.owsleyfamily.com publication on descendants of jane owsley gregg (website worked in 2002 anyway) showed the MD to VA Moseley linkage much better, So it's better to use our revised version on internet, for the latest compilation; although for just the KY descendants, probably that descendancy hasn't been revised too much see http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi- bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&db=moseley2&id=I5859 and click on the ancestors name to see our documentation there ===================================================== ===================================================== (REPRISE) HERE'S A MORE INCLUSIVE QUOTATION OF DOCUMENTATION DISCUSSION FROM ABOVE WEBSITE page 29 of a new book is the best documentation yet for Lt Robert Moseley of Owensboro KY area--i.e. that his ancestry appears thinly documented back to his father Robert's origin in St Mary's Co VA. The book is Descendants of Jane Owlsey Gregg, edited by Thomas W. Spalding pub 2002 by Owsley Family Historical Society, www.owsleyfamily.com [no other address is listed for the OFHS in the book!] I obtained the book by sending $27.50 to an address listed on that website under PUBLICATIONS. I believe the book will remain in print for about another week; so send in your money today if you want that book. I'll try to summarize below here, in case you are not that interested. Page 29 and the Moseley descendancy are by Dorothy James Turner, who wrote 1979 book with approx title "Epitome of the History of the Moseley Family....Lt Robert Moseley of Virginia and Kentucky". **************** Page 29 opens with Robert's mother Sarah Peake4, daughter of Lucy Gregg3,[ apparently daughter of Jane Owlsley2 (Mrs.Gregg), about whom the new book is entitled. ] Next document, not cited here but apparently previous known to us, except by summary reference to page 12 of 1947 book by Col R. L. Moseley "The Moseley Family and the Descendants of Presley Thompson Moseley" Winter Park FL, The College Press. Document(s) was/were the Ohio Co. Circuit Court Case James W. Davidson vs. Robert Moseley and others. That Robert Moseley was attorney/legislator born 1781 or 1782, as the son of Lt Robt Moseley born ca 1749. The Court case said Lt Robt Moseley went to MD only to find that the land Lt Robt thought he was heir to--had been escheated to the state of MD and been disposed of. ******************** Page 29 continues citing page 327 of Gust Skordas, editor 1986 "The Early Settlers of Maryland" Genealogical Pub Co, Baltimore--pointing to Thomas Moseley indentured servant from 1668-1673 in St Marys Co VA, as the apparent great grandfather of LT Robt Moseley. The MD to VA connection is apparently confirmed by the above Circuit court case---because the Prince William Co. VA to Ohio Co. KY connection is already strongly documented in Rev War records pertaining to Lt Robt Moseley. pages 16-19, 29- 31, and 161-175 present more Moseley descendancy information than I previously was aware of. Most of the great-grandchildren of Lt Robt Moseley b.ca.1749 are apparently given. ; Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
