    1. [MDSTMARY] John Basil GREENWELL's will
    2. Jerry L. Clark
    3. Linda Reno I was reviewing this will for clues and noticed phrase: To son James Greenwell, Tract wheron Wm. Medcalf now dwells What can you tell me about this William Medcalf his spouse or children? Could it be possible that Eleanor ? wife of John Basil GREENWELL was an Eleanor Medcalf?? If not I wonder if there is another connection with William Medcalf. Maryland Calendar of Wills Greenwell, John Basil, St. Mary's County10 Sept. 1761 13 Oct, 1761 to son Joshua Greenwell, 100 Acres called Evans Quarter, wheron I now dwell, after wife Eleanor Greenwell dies, and in case of no such heirs, then to son James Greenwell and heirs., and in case no issue, then to Richard Langhorn Clark, son on law to him forever. To son James Greenwell, Tract wheron Wm. Medcalf now dwells, called Piles Wood Lane, 200 acres., and if he died without issue, to son Joshua Greenwell. To son James Greenwell, Slaves. To Daughter., in law(unnamed) and son in law Richard Clark, 7001lbs of Tobacco. Extrx. Wife. Witnesses: Monia Medley, Mary Norris, James Pike. Is this the same William Medcalf he refers to in his will? Madcaif, William, St. Mary's Co.,18th Jan., 1733-4 ; 1st Meh., 1733. To son George and hrs., dwelling plantation "son John and hrs., tract at head of Bretan's Bay, formerly belonging to Peter Smeth. " son William and hrs, tract bought of Peter Smeth (having a, judgment in court for it, and cannot possess it until James Persons is of age). " son Ignatius and sons afsd., personalty, afsd. lands and personalty to be delivered to four sons as they come to age of 21. " wife Susannah, extx., residue of estate. Test: Thomas Wootton, John Howard, Margret Dun.20. 889. And could the John HOWARD mentioned in this will be John Baptist HOWARD? Also I'm trying to recall another document that mentions Margaret DUNN There are connections to DUNN family with John Baptist HOWARD.

    1. Re: [MDSTMARY] John Basil GREENWELL's will
    2. Jerry L. Clark
    3. Dave, Not sure where you have been cause we have discussed this several times on this list. Here is Linda Reno's response to Eleanor GOUGH. Linda decided a while back that Eleanor Gough married a "James Greenwell." In looking again at Priscilla Gough's administration accounts, I noticed this. 8/15/1770: Admin. accts. of Priscilla Gough, SMC. Received from: Stephen Gough due from estate of James Gough. Payments to: James Pike, Zachariah Forrest, Owen Allen. Legatees: Stephen Gough, Ignatius Gough, William Jenkins, James Greenwell, accountant. Exec.: James Gough. (Admin. accts. of the Prerogative Court of Maryland, Libers, 59-66, 1768-1771 by V. L. Skinner, Jr.). NOTE: This record is not on CD #206. This last account has just killed two birds (or more) with one stone. Elizabeth Gough, daughter of James and Priscilla, was married to WILLIAM Jenkins, not John Jenkins (per Donnelly). Eleanor Gough, daughter of James and Priscilla, married JAMES Greenwell. As was the norm, the sons-in-law have been paid their wives' share of Priscilla's estate. Not sure at this point which James Greenwell that Eleanor was married to--there are several contenders. Linda Reno And what would give you the idea that Richard Langhorn CLARKE's wife Chloe ? was a GREENWELL, I see nothing to suggest such. Whoever the Eleanor ? was who married John CLARKE, John Basil GREENWELL, and James WHEATLEY, we at least know she was not Eleanor GOUGH. I Removed Eleanor GOUGH as a possibility long ago, and I'm trying to help others realize this was my original conclusion, that is totally wrong. Linda Reno proved it false, it always had problems working anyways. -----Original Message----- From: mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of David Lee Sent: Tuesday, December 23, 2008 5:46 AM To: mdstmary@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MDSTMARY] John Basil GREENWELL's will Does this mean Richard Langhorn Clark's wife Chloe was a Greenwell?? 3. Hi. Margaret Dunn witnessed the Will of Henry Spink in, I believe, 1734 (the date could be incorrect--I don't have my file here). This is why I incorrectly thought she may have been born Margaret Spink. Her daughter, Susanna Dunn, was mentioned in the Will of Robert Ford III. This is what led Donnelly to incorrectly believe she was Margaret _____ Ford (Widow of Robert Ford II). That's about all I know. John Dobricky On Mon, Dec 22, 2008 at 8:44 AM, Jerry L. 1. [MDSTMARY] John Baptist Howard
    2. Jerry L. Clark
    3. Linda Reno, I found this little tidbit in "Catholic Families of Southern Maryland". I don't really know what to make of it - not even sure this would pertain to My John Baptist Howard, but I think so. Register of Baptisms and Marriages, St Francis Xavier & St Inigoes, SMC MD 13 May 1792 James Corbin of James & wife Sponsors: son and daughter of John B Howard 13 May 1792 Joseph Price of Joseph & Sarah Sponsors: Samuel Smith and Mrs John B Howard. I do believe John Baptist HOWARD was married twice, 1st to ? and 2nd to Elizabeth JOHNSON daughter of David JOHNSON. I suppose these records could also be referring to John Basil HOWARD son of Gabriel HOWARD and Susanna SPALDING. What do you think?
