    3. I recently posted on two "separate" family lines of grandparents of my Mother's lineages from England to Virginia on other mailing lists.    Richard Eltonhead and Ann Sutton Martha Eltonhead and Edwin Conway, Sr. Eltonhead Conway and Henry Thacker, Sr. Henry Thacker, Jr. and Elizabeth Payne..... Elizabeth Payne's  parents are John Payne, Jr. and Ann Walker daughter of  my 9th great grandfather, Col. John Walker , 1st wife unknown and married 2nd to Sarah Fleete who is the "widow" of Col. Henry Fleete, Sr.  I do not have a Fleete grandparent that I know of. These later generations are in Old Rappahannock and Lancaster counties in Virginia which I have researched the records in those counties..   also:   Sir Reginald Scott and Mary Tuke dau of Brian Tuke Mary Scott and Sir Richard Argall Elizabeth Argall and Edward Filmer Katherine Filmer and Robert Barham, Jr. Ann Filmer and Richard Bennett, Jr of Isle of Wight, Co., Va. I descend from their son Richard Bennett, Jr.  These are records I have researched in Virginia.   My Mother 's parents are first cousins and each of the lineages above are the result of this. Each lineage from each parent.   Also, Henry Fleete, Sr. was in both Old Rappahannock, Lancaster and Richmond counties in Va. He died about 1661.  They had a son Henry Fleete who died  in 1728 in Virginia.  Henry Fleete, Sr., widow, Sarah Fleete married my 9th great grandfather Col. John Walker (see above).  Henry Fleete II , will dated 1728 in Lancaster Co., Va. The will  was winessed by my Conway family namely, Edwin Conway, Ann Conway and Edwin Conway, Jr.   Henry Fleete, Sr. is the son of William Fleete II of Chatham, Kent and Deborah Scott.  Deborah 's will in 1651/52  in Middlesex, England names the Filmer family. Her  parents are Charles Scott and Jane or Joan Wyatt. Charles Scott is the son of Sir Reginald Scott whose daughter Mary married Richard Argall. (See above). Sir Samuel Argall descends from this family and was one of the Governor's of Virginia that captured Pocahantes.   This is what happens when your grandparents are first cousins. :)  It also shows how the English intermarried and settled Virginia.  It might also be lineages of others on this list in Maryland.   Marianne Dillow

    3. You will find this with many familys that were in Va. before the "English Civil War" that started in 1642. While searching thru the Cavaliers and Pioneers for my Bowles line I found it stopped in 1641 and started again in 1651 in Northumberland Co,Va. My Lawson side of the family did the same thing, but when they came back to Va. in 1650 they came to Lancaster Co, Va. Even though my Bowles line imigrated to Maryland in 1650, they were in Northumberland Co, Va. in 1651. Edward died in Charles Co, Md in 1659 and John Bowles died in Charles Co, Md. in 1675 after he married Margary Batten. For more on this war you might want to research "Oliver Cromwell " . Your Fleete, Walkers, Argalls tie into my Lawsons line, some of the others tie into my Bowles line. Leathel, "Cavalier" is chiefly associated with the Royalist supporters of King Charles I in his struggle with Parliament in the English Civil War. At first appears as a term of reproach and contempt, applied by the opponents of King Charles I during the summer of 1642: CAVALIERS AND PIONEERS Abstracts of Virginia Patents and Grants 1623-1766 Abstracted and Indexed by Nell Marion Nugent Virginia Land Office, Richmond, Va. The First English Civil War (1642-1646) commenced the series of three wars known as the English Civil War (or "Wars"). "The English Civil War" was a series of armed conflicts and political machinations which took place between Parliamentarians and Royalists from 1642 until 1651, and includes the Second English Civil War (1648-1649) and the Third English Civil War (1649-1651). The English Civil War (1642-1651) was a series of armed conflicts and political machinations between Parliamentarians and Royalists. The first (1642-1646) and second (1648-1649) civil wars pitted the supporters of King Charles I against the supporters of the Long Parliament, while the third war (1649-1651) saw fighting between supporters of King Charles II and supporters of the Rump Parliament. The Civil War ended with the Parliamentary victory at the Battle of Worcester on 3 September 1651. The Civil War led to the trial and execution of Charles I, the exile of his son, Charles II, and replacement of English monarchy with first, the Commonwealth of England (1649-1653), and then with a Protectorate (1653-1659), under Oliver Cromwell's personal rule. The monopoly of the Church of England on Christian worship in England ended with the victors consolidating the established Protestant Ascendancy in Ireland. Constitutionally, the wars established the precedent that an English monarch cannot govern without Parliament's consent, although this concept was established only with the Glorious Revolution later in the century. ----- Original Message ----- From: "marianne dillow" <mdillow31@verizon.net> To: <MDSTMARY@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 21, 2008 10:09 PM Subject: [MDSTMARY] Connections From England to Virginia and Maryland I recently posted on two "separate" family lines of grandparents of my Mother's lineages from England to Virginia on other mailing lists.
