Hi all! Does anyone have any info on one of Rowland Burnham and Alice Eltonhead's son John Burnham? I belive he was about 10-12 when Rowland died. What happened to him? Did he take the Corbin name as a young boy? Thanks all! Delbert Calvert Hiestand B'ham, Al
Del - I have never followed the Burnham children but in case you don't have it, here is Rowland's will. Will of Rowland Burnham of Rappahannock in Virginia intending to make a voyage to England in the ship Anthony of London. - To his brother-in-law Thomas Holmes of York River and to his sister Margery Holmes each 20 shillings to buy a ring. To his loving friend Francis Cole of Rappahannock River and to Alice Cole his wife each 20 shillings to buy a ring and to Alice 10 pounds to be laid out in plate (silver serving pieces) for her own use. - "To my son John Burnham a negro boy and to my daughter Elleanor Burnham a negro girl. Unto my two eldest sons Thomas and John Burnham two English youths called Timothy Doner and Edmond, both of them for the full term of tyme they have to serve." Also negro slaves. - "To my daughter Elleanor Burnham and to my son Francys Burnham three English servants called John Henley, David Watkins and John Lewys." Also negro slaves. - "To my sons Thomas, John and Francys Burnham and to my daughter Elleanor Burnham 1/2 of my hogs, 2/3 of crop. The other 1/3 to belong to their mother, Alice Burnham my wife." - "Tobacco to be shipped under my old mark unto Mr. Jefferys & Mr. Colclough in London." - Land on the south side of Rappahannock where I now live "when my son Thomas shall come to the age of 20 years he the said Thomas shall at the division have the first choice in regard of his birthright." - Other bequests to Alice his wife "during her widowhood & no longer but then to depart without injuring the houses or drawing a naile about or in any of them." Rowland Burnham's will also left his wife Alice Eltonhead Burnham "all the plate I have in the house, 70 pounds sterling which is in her custody and all such plate as shall come out of England for her this year." His loving friend Francis Cole and his brother-in-law Thomas Holmes were named as executors for the will dated 12th February 1655. Witnesses were Francis Cole (his mark), John Vause and Robert Taylor. The will is recorded as received 1 March 1656 by Edward Dale, clerk of Lancaster County, Virginia.
