    3. Marianne, William Eltonhead was captured and executed at the Battle of the Severn on March 25, 1655. 4/9/1664: The Depositione of Jno Anderton. This depont aged 36 yeares or thereabouts sworne & examined Sayth that about the 28th of March in the yeare 1655 att Seauerne Mr William Eltonhead Called to him this Deponant and desired him to take notice of what hee then said, as to the disposing of his Estate, was and should stand for his last Will hee being a Prisoner, and hauing the Benifitt of paper and inke which caused him to declare by word of mouth to which this Depont was a wittnes as followeth Impr that hee left his land and prsonall Estate to his wife att her disposing, and farther did desire his said wife to bestow on Robert and Richard ifenwicke something as a remembrance of him. John Anderton. Taken before mee this 9th Aprill 1664. Charles Caluert. (Archives of Maryland, Vol. 49, p. 206). NOTE: Robert and Richard Fenwick were the children of Cuthbert Fenwick and his second, wife Jane Eltonhead, widow of Robert Moryson. 1667/1668: Thomas Smyth was put to death in a rebellion on Kent Island. His estate was delivered to Jane Smyth, relict of sd. Thomas Smyth for the use of her two young female children. The land is now in dispute by Gutrud, wife of John Anderton and dau. of sd. Thomas Smyth. Kent Co. (Archives of Maryland). William Eltonhead's wife was Jane Fenwick, sister of Cuthbert Fenwick. She didn't have a lot of luck with husbands. Her first husband, Thomas Smyth (Smith) was captured by Governor Leonard Calvert after the reduction of Kent Island in 1645 and hanged as a pirate. Her second husband, Philip Taylor died in 1649 and then, of course, the third husband was William Eltonhead. Ann Sutton, wife of Richard Eltonhead. This is now the third version I've heard of her surname. A Biographical Dictionary of the Maryland Legislature says she was Elizabeth Osbaldeston. Jane Eltonhead was b. about 1633 presumably in Lancashire. Her father, Richard Eltonhead, had been b. in 1611 and at an early age married Anne, dau. of Richard Massey of Ruxton, Lancashire. Six Eltonhead sisters married VA gentlemen, yet it is not known how and when these Eltonhead maidens arrived in VA. The other five daughters of Richard Eltonhead who came to VA were: Martha who became the second wife of Edwin Conway; Agatha who married Ralph Wormeley; Eleanor who married Edward Brocas; Alice who married Rowland Burnham and William Henry Corbin; and Katherine who married Thomas Mears. Richard Eltonhead was the son of Richard Eltonhead, Gent. who was b. in 1582 and who married Anne, dau. of Edward Sutton of Rushton Spencer, Staffordshire. It was he, the grandfather of Jane (Eltonhead) Moryson-Fenwick who at his estate Ormeskeite on 9/23/1664 recorded his paternal ancestry back seven generations to one Henri Eltonhedde de Eltonhead, the manuscript being now in the British museum.
