Hi Linda, Thank you very much for sending this information. You sent me looking through my records as I haven't researched my Eltonhead line for a long time and my research is in Virginia and England. I had nothing in Maryland except William Eltonhead came to Maryland. I did find what you have that William Eltonhead's wife was Jane Fenwick, sister of Cuthbert Fenwick. I have also foind the following that anyone researching the Eltonhead line might like to have. " The Parish Register of Prescot, 1573-1631, ed. by E. V. Driffield, (Lancashire Parish Register Series, Vol. 76 (R. Seed and Sons: Preston, 1938), LDS Microfilm 0844816, Christenings 1580-1631/2. Marriages 1575-1631/2. Burials 1573-1632.... "c 1622, p. 32, (town) Sutton, Agatha, father Richard Eltonhead, gent:, 10 Feb." "The Eltonhead family comprised father Richard Eltonhead, mother Ann Sutton, and 16 children. The family seem to have been Catholic and Royalist, although most of the children were baptized in the Church of England--The Royalist Composition Papers... County of Lancashire.., ed J.H. Stanning (The Record Society of Lancashire and Cheshire, 1892), Vol. 2 (C-F), p. 279: " RICHARD ELTONHEAD , the ELDER of SUTTON, Gentleman, (Second Series, Vol. XIII, No. 2,541, fol. 797 &c) fo 797. Delinquency, assisting the forces against Parliament. He petitioned 19 June 1649, and compounded upon a particular which disclosed that he was seized of a frank tenement for his life, remainder to RICHARD ELTONHEAD, his SON, in tail, of and in a capital messuage and lands called ELTONHEAD HALL and a mill and other lands there worth L41; but he claimed a Michaelmas Term 1646, and the lands had been extended thereupon in the Exchequer; he also stood indebted to various other persons in the aggregate sum of L190. Finr, L92.2s. ( 16 July 1649).... fo. 803 Affadavit of compounder, sworn 13 July 1649 befoe Tjo. Benet, in which, in addition to Barnes name as a creditor, he mentions those of Elizabeth Turner, L10, Thomas Walls, L16; William Fletcher, L; William Wood, John Lander, L10." Linda, I haven't researched the Eltonhead's in Mayland but I did find a notation that goes along with what you said, that Richard Eltonhead, (JR) was born 1623, married Ann Massey. He died after Sep 1664... he is the son of Richard Eltonhead, Sr. and Anne Sutton. So, I don't know where Elizabeth Obaldston comes in ? Also, going back to records in England... "Richard was heir to his father, the eldest son having died in infancy. Brother Henry died 1670 evidently died unmarried in England but had strong ties to Ireland. Lothrop Withington... Virginia Gleanings in England--- Baltimore: Genealogical Oublishing Co., 1980), pp. 392-393. " Henty Eltonhead, whose will was dated in 1665, was a brother of Richard Eltonhead, of Eltonhead, though not name in the (visitation) chart. This is evident as he names his brother THOMAS MEARES." " Henry Eltonhead late of London Esq. deceased Will 27 July 1665. .. names brother R. Eltonhead... moneys due me in Ireland by bond in Mr. John Doughty's hands in Dublin L100... Mr. Thomas Houghton... Mr Walter Scudmore... Mr. Timothy Grolliers in Dublin.. Mr. Joseph Stokers in Dublin all named plus Mr. Edward Rands.. to my brother THO. MEARAS L6 in hands of Mr. Nathaniel Foulkes he lives at the sign of the Horseshoe in Castle Strre Dublin... owes Mr. William Richardson. Mr. Cleement Hog.. Mr Denton.. Mr John Clements.... Letters of Administration wit will of RICHARD ELTONHEAD in County of Lancashire in England Esq of goods of Henry Eltonhead late of London deceased on 23 August 1670. Perogative Court of Ireland, Will Book 1668-72, folio 166." " This will shows the economic ties in England, Ireland, and the colonies that closely follow the blood ties. Clement Hogg is undoubtedly kin to the Wormleys." Richard Eltonhead , Sr. was born ca 1582 in Eltonhead, Lancashire, England. He died ca 1665. He married Anne Sutton, she was born ca 1586 in Rushton, Spencer. Staffordshire, England. She died ca 1685 in England. Her parents are Edward Sutton and Thepdosia Harrington. The Sutton surname goes back in earler generations to Dudley Castle. There is a difference in some of our data. I have Jane Eltonhead as the daughter of Richard Eltonhead, Sr. and Anne Sutton along with Agatha, my grandmother Martha, Alice, and Eleanor Eltonhead. But above it states Richard and Anne had 16 children. Also, I don't have a first wife for Edwin Conway. Only Martha Eltonhead. I descend from their daughter Eltonhead Conway that married Henry Thacker, Sr. I know most people on the intenet assign my Edwin Conway as the son of Viscount Edward Vincent Conway who was Secretary of England under James I and Charkes I who married Dorothy Ann Tracy but Sir Edward Vincent Conway does not name Edwin as his son in his will although they were in neighboring counties. I am still researching his lineage. My Martha Eltonhead was brought to Virgiinia by Edwin Conway in 1652 and he also brought John Sutton over in that year. I have seen on the internet tht Katherine Eltonhead married Thomas Meares but I don't have anymore info on her except for the notes on Tho. Meares above. I didn't have anything om William Eltonhead in St. Mary's so I really thank you for the information on him. If you see anything else or differences in data please let me know. I always like to share what I have with others.
