    3. I still don't see how this explains what I wrote before about the gifts from the Robert to children, the age of the married Thomas, the age of the Robert and John making sales, etc etc -----Original Message----- From: mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jerry L. Clark Sent: Tuesday, November 25, 2008 8:33 AM To: mdstmary@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MDSTMARY] Robert Clarke immigrants Robert Clarke the Surveyor Is one I have researched very Carefully. He was married three times. 1st to Unknown by which he had John Clarke born abt 1642 this John Clarke married Ann ?, a daughter Mary Clarke born abt 1644/45 who I have married to John COMPTON. Some think that perhaps his 1st wife might have been an Eleanor ?(this has not been proven for sure) Robert Clarke married 2nd to Winifred Seyborne (GREENE) wether or not Seyborne was her Maiden Name or a previous married name we don't know for sure. By this marriage he had Robert Clarke born March 1652, and Thomas Clarke born 25 Dec 1654. Winifred died by 1655. This Winifred had been previously married to Governor Thomas GREENE. Thomas Clarke born 25 Dec 1654 married twice 1st to Ann Barber, and 2nd to Julian MUDD. Most all of Thomas Clarke's children were from 1st wife Ann Barber, as was Adam CLARKE who married Mary Gardiner It is my belief that the son Robert Clarke married Sarah COMBS daughter of Abraham Combs. I decend from Robert Clarke who married Sarah COMBS(some would disagree that this Robert Clarke was the son of Robert Clarke the Surveyor. Currently many people are being tested for their DNA on this Robert Clarke's line, and I'm confident it is likely going to prove once and for all his parents. We will see if he is the son of Robert Clarke the Surveyor. Robert Clarke the Surveyor married third to Jane Hicks (COCKSHOOT) (CAUSIN) By third wife he had no children they were married abt 1656 and Robert Clarke the Surveyor died by 1664. All of this is very well documented. Jane Hicks married 1st to John Cockshoot, 2nd to Nicholas Causin, and third to Robert CLARKE the Surveyor. -----Original Message----- From: mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of rubyslippers Sent: Monday, November 24, 2008 8:15 AM To: MDSTMARY@rootsweb.com Subject: [MDSTMARY] Robert Clarke immigrants According to the will of Robert Clarke died 1664 and information online he married the widow of Thomas Greene - Mrs. Winifred Seybourne (has anyone determined her maiden name?) She died in 1658 and no wife was named in the will. His children were John born 1642, Robert born 1653, Thomas born 1654 and Mary. In 1647 "A" Robt Clarke gave gifts to son and daughter John and Mary witnessed by Thomas Greene. In 1655 "A" Robt Clarke gave bond to Henry Adams to marry widow Jane Causin. It seems to me unlikely that these are the same Robt Clarkes as the son John of the first one would only be 5 yrs old. In 1662 a Thomas Clarke gave a gift to wife Jane witnessed by a Robert Clarke. Again, Thomas Clarke above would only be 8 yrs old so this has to be from a different Clarke family. In 1662/63 a Robert Clarke and John Clarke made sales witnessed by Ignatius Causine. I don't see all of these people as coming from one immigrant above. Edward Barber mentioned Adam Clarke in his will of 1694 (I think he was a cousin?)I would expect this Adam to have been born about 1650. I find it hard to believe that these refer to Adam Clarke, son mentioned in the will of Thomas who died in 1711. That Adam is estimated to have been born in 1682. It seems that some wills and an Adam are missing. Thomas Clarke who had wife Julian made an indenture in 1709 witnessed by Adam Clarke. In his 1695 will Ignatius Crusine, son of Jane said his brother was Thomas and cousin was Francis Greene. What this indicates is that Robert Clarke that married Winifred and Robert Clarke that married Jane were brothers. Has anyone found an inventory or will for a 2nd Robert Clarke of this generation? If you would search the Maryland Archives, you would see that the name "Thomas" in that abstract is a mis-read/mis-write of the abstractor. ----- Original Message ----- From: "rubyslippers" <rubyslippers@kc.rr.com> To: <mdstmary@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, November 25, 2008 2:19 PM Subject: Re: [MDSTMARY] Robert Clarke immigrants >I still don't see how this explains what I wrote before >about the gifts from > the Robert to children, the age of the married Thomas, the > age of the Robert > and John making sales, etc etc > > -----Original Message----- > From: mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com] > On Behalf Of Jerry L. 3. Thank you Norma - I searched for MDstmary-L archives but couldn't find anything. Can you point me to it or explain? I found the gift on the transcriptions at genealogy.com. Did someone pull the original and it was suppose to be reversed - as in gift from Robert to wife Jane with witness of a Thomas? But I did find this about a Gilbert born 1654-1659. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/MDSTMARY/2002-01/1011867332 Obviously not born to a John born 1642 - to make this clear - John would have been 12 yrs old. I think this also explains the transactions I was questioning as to who the parties were: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=mrmarsha&id=I02186 I note his land was in St. Lawrence - Clarkes Purchase and Clarks Marsh It doesn't explain two immigrations for Robert Clarkes a year apart. -----Original Message----- From: mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Norma Lundgren Sent: Wednesday, November 26, 2008 9:35 PM To: mdstmary@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MDSTMARY] Robert Clarke immigrants If you would search the Maryland Archives, you would see that the name "Thomas" in that abstract is a mis-read/mis-write of the abstractor. 3. I have not followed your conversations on this, or how this would change anything, but perhaps you have not made your point clear. I think it just a matter of understanding the time line of events. Here is will of Edward Barber, notice he says his sister was Ann Clarke and Thomas Clarke was one of the Overseers of his will. Ann Barber died shortly after this, because Thomas Clarke remarried to Julian MUDD I believe abt 1696. Thomas Clarke died 1711, Julian MUDD then remarried to Mathew Guibert. Will of Edward Barber, SMC 3/2/1693-5/21/1694. Wife: Cibbil, plantation and 200 ac. during life; to revert to son, Edward. Daughter: Mary, 1/2 of certain land. To: Unborn child, residue of sd. tract and 200 ac. near Bird's Creek. Brother: Thomas, rights in 300 ac. "Pt. of Mitcham Hills" and 200 ac. near Bird's Creek, formerly belonging to John Barecroft. Cousin: Thomas Nichols, and to Adam Clarke and heirs, rights of 200 ac. To: Children afsd. residue of land equally. Godsons: James Morris and John Branson; and Mary and Martha Williamson, daughters of Samuel Williamson, personal estate. In event of death of children afsd. without issue the children of sister Elizabeth Guibert to be co-heirs with brother Thomas afsd. and in event of death of Thomas afsd. without issue, sister Mary Nichols and Ann Clarke to be co-heirs. Wife: Cibbil (Exec.) residuary legatee. Overseers: Thomas Clarke, Thomas Barber. Wit: Samuel Williamson, Stephen Cawood, William Dutch. The reason we say Julian Mudd married Thomas CLARKE abt 1696 is because that is date of her father's will which he states his daughter is Julian CLARK, and his son in law was Thomas Clarke. There is also a later Lawsuit involving Julian Mudd CLARKE (GUIBERT) and the children of Thomas CLARKE from his 1st wife Ann BARBER. The same children are listed in lawsuit of the Thomas Clarke who died 1711. Julian Mudd CLARKE (GUIBERT) was the step mom to most of his children and with her new husband tried to take away the inheritance from the children of Thomas Clarke from 1st wife Ann BARBER. To son George, 400 A., part of Cannarvan, bought of Capt. Jos. Pile. To son John, 180 A., St. Catherino's, bought of Edmond Nugent, and 250 A., residue of Cannarvan afsd. 3. I don't know how to make this clearer than doing the simple math. Your hypothesis - there is one Robert with children John, Mary, Robert and Thomas: You said he had: John Clarke born abt 1642 Mary Clarke born abt 1644/45 Robert Clarke born March 1652, Thomas Clarke born 25 Dec 1654. In addition to the record about Thomas gifting to a wife, I pointed out the following: In 1647 "A" Robt Clarke gave gifts to son and daughter John and Mary witnessed by Thomas Greene. According to your approach of only one each of these Clarkes, he made these gifts to John at 5 yrs old and Mary at 3/4 yrs old (ie: from John's birth in 1642 to the year 1647 is 5 yrs) I just don't think these recorded gifts to these small children are plausible. For one thing they would not have the legal capacity to ever transfer them. -----Original Message----- From: mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jerry L.
