We don't know for sure what Mary's maiden name was. I think the reason that many have her maiden name as Montgomery is because Margaret Gates Montgomery's will in 1774 mentioned a Mary McAtee, but it probably was another daughter Mary Montgomery who married James McAtee. > MONTGOMERY, MARGARET, Charles Co, 10 Oct, 1773 > 20 Dec. 1774 > To son Joseph Montgomery, 56 acres of land I bought of Peter Montgomery. > To dau.
