MD, d. 1746, St. Mary's Co. MD. Planter and weaver. Received in his father's will: "The tract of land on which I now live, being on My Lord's Manner, 120 acres, all on the other side of Napkin Run, and 1 heifer called by ye name of `John's heifer' and her increase." John later owned tracts of land known as "Squabble", Southern Days", "Abell's Beginning", "Chance Conclusion", "By the Spring", and' Enoch's Lott". Married (1) Mary USHER (daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth USHER) - 5 sons; married (2) Frances (maiden name unknown) HOWELL HUTCHINS - no children. John's will provided he should be "buried at the chapple by my former wife without either pomp or seremony". To his second wife Frances he left: "the bed whereon we now Lay with the furniture commonly used about it, with bedstids, & bords; all pg 54 her working tools which she uses about either woole, cotton, or flax. I likewise give her all the wool and flax which is gathered with all the yarn spun." A Codicil to the will added to Frances' inheritance: three sows and one barrow and half a barren cow, along with some corn. John's brother Samuel (II) was to sell " my Corn in the wheat patch, two of my best barrows, and two quarters of the barren cow, to pay part of my debts, with the rest of the corn crop to be for the family.". (Frances also got a share of the Estate according to Law.)
