Linda, Pertaining to the daughter of John Horn, who married Charles Jarboe b 1700 St Mary's Co. etc. I have his wife as a possible Suzanna Brown dau of Derrick Brown. The marriage date "bef 1737" also is the same as listed below. This from L. Donnelly's book "Beaverdam" Another source on Charles Jarboe; Mary Jo McGuire's Book THE JARBOE FAMILY p 22, (1983) Gives the following: "Charles appears to have had 3 wives. In 1748, he is names as son-in-law of John Horn in Horn's will. However in 1752 when Horn's estate is settled, Charles is not longer an heir. Presumably his wife had died and had left o surviving children. The horn girl could not have been his lst wife. In a deposition recorded in Land Commissioners Rec, LJH @1, ff14-15, Matthew Jarboe declares he was born @ 1737, a son of Charles Jarboe and refers to his uncles, Peter and Henry. Land records indicate that Charles died about 1776.Although no estate papers have been four for him, there is a curious estate settlement for one Susanna Jarboe in 1796. She leaves personality to Matthew Jarboe and also, Joshua Jarboe, Charles Jarboe, Frances Brown and Ann Drady Stone or their heirs. Her relationship is not stated but she does tie these people together. Another tie, is that all belonged to the same parish and their children all baptized in the same time period. They serve as baptismal sponsors for one another and Susanna , herself, is frequently sponsor. She could well be the 3rd wife of Charles. Currant research indicates she was a Brown by birth." Just wondering. Mary Ann, I disagree. I have found no proof, nor is any offered below, that Charles Jarboe was married to anyone other than the Horn girl. McGuire says: "However in 1752 when Horn's estate is settled, Charles is no longer an heir. Presumably his wife had died and had left no surviving children." There were no administration accounts dated 1752 for John Horn who d. 1748. The accounts she refers to are for his son, John, Jr., husband of Ann Hendley and there was no reason to list Charles Jarboe as an heir. She also says: "The Horn girl could not have been his lst wife. In a deposition recorded in Land Commissioners Rec, LJH @1, ff14-15, Matthew Jarboe declares he was born @ 1737, a son of Charles Jarboe and refers to his uncles, Peter and Henry." O.K., I'll bite. There's nothing here that tells me why Matthew Jarboe couldn't have been a son of ____Horn. So, where's the proof? Lastly she says: "Although no estate papers have been found for him, there is a curious estate settlement for one Susanna Jarboe in 1796. Currant research indicates she was a Brown by birth." Disagree, disagree, disagree. This was Susanna Jarboe, daughter of Charles Jarboe. And no, she wasn't Susanna Brown, dau. of Derrick Brown as Donnelly claimed. The heirs below are of her siblings. 10/20/1796: Admin. accts. of Susanna Jarboe, SMC. Equally: Matthew Jarboe, Dryden Ann Stone's heirs; Charles Jarboe's heirs; Joshua Jarboe's heirs; Frances Brown. Son: George Clarke, a negro named Lewis; one young horse; and a saddle and bridle. Daughter: Nancy Clarke, a negro named Jesse. Daughter: Anna Clarke, a negro named Nace. Son: Thomas Clarke, a negro named Dick. Exec: Brother, Robert Clarke. Wit: Moses Davis, William Loker. NOTE: The widow, Susanna Clarke, renounced this will and claimed her third. He married 2nd to a Susanna ? And from 2nd marriage he had a son named Thomas CLARKE. This is will of 2nd wife of Thomas CLARKE son of Robert CLARKE Jr. and Mary ? Will of Susanna Clarke, SMC, 5/25/1785-9/3/1788. Son: Thomas Clarke, all of my estate both real and personal. He is to be in the care of Ann Griffin (widow) until he reaches the age of 21. To: Ann Griffin, the use of my bed and chest until my son, Thomas Clarke, comes of age. She is to return these items to him in the same condition she got them. She is to also have my clothes to make use of as she sees fit toward the clothing of my boy. She is to have the interest from my estate for her trouble and expense in raising, bringing up, and schooling my child. Exec.: Matthias Clarke. Wit.: John Horn Abell, Jean Fenwick. Linda Reno Said: Susanna's will leads me to believe that the only child she had was Thomas Clarke, so I would assume she was a second wife of Thomas Clarke (d. 1783), brother of Robert Clarke. Susanna, as you'll see, survived him and then she died in 1788, also with a will, naming her husband's nephew, Matthias Clarke (son of Robert) as her Executor. Do I have it correct now???
