List -- I'd like to call your attention again to the following abstracts recorded in the VA Patents. Please notice William METCALF, Joseph Jackson and GEORGE BRENT who owned land in Kentucky very early. Either the typist entered the wrong county for Joseph Jackson or the early geography permits Fayette County and Jefferson County to join at this point. [I've used these VA Patents for years and errors are not uncommon. Researchers should check several points to verify]. Here are the abstracts: JACKSON, JOSEPH Publication 5 August 1785. Location: Fayette County (Ky.). Description: 500 acres on the waters of the North fork of Licking Creek on the south side thereof adjoining land of William Fitzgerrald, WILLIAM METCALF and GEORGE BRENT. Source: VA Land Office Grants S, 1785-1786, p. 102 (Reel 59). Notice that GEORGE BRENT owns property on/near Beech Fork and Chaplains Fork, near Abraham Buford; see below ..... Buford, Abraham. Publication 2 December 1785. Note Location: Jefferson County (Ky.). Description: 5008 1/2 acres between the BEACH FORK and CHAPLAINS FORK on Long Lick Creek and the Five Mile Creek adjoining GEORGE BRENT and Abraham Sylvia. Source: VA Land Office Grants S, 1785-1786, p. 574 (Reel 59). And you can see that George Brent's land is now recorded in Jefferson County [below].......... BRENT, GEORGE Publication 25 May 1786. Location: Jefferson County (Ky.). Description: 500 acres on the north side of the BEECH FORK adjoining JOSEPH JACKSONS survey. Source: VA Land Office Grants Z, 1785-1786, p. 653 (Reel 66). Now, please look at Abraham Buford, 1785, above, again; here's another abstract for him .......... Buford, Abraham. Publication 2 December 1785. Location: Lincoln County. Description: 1000 acres on the north west side of Scrub Grass Run being a branch of the north fork of the ROWLING FORK OF SALT RIVER. Source: Land Office Grants S, 1785-1786, p. 577 (Reel 59). You can see that Abraham Buford is recorded as being on Rolling Fork of Salt River, above. GEORGE BRENT seems to disappear from the area; did he die or move? Does anyone have anything on George Brent in Jefferson County or Nelson County??? Can this be the same George Brent recorded earlier in Hampshire Co., VA --- where the Combs are located? DEW Hampshire County formerly part of Frederick County, VA; notice the Combs in the citations below...... Joseph Combs on 19 Nov 1761 was granted 253 acres in Hampshire County on Maple Bottom Branch of the NORTH RIVER of CACAPION Source: (VA NN Land Patent Bk S-229). 1782 Hampshire Co VA Tax List: COMBS, FRANCIS 6 in household and 1 slave WHARTON, THOMAS Publication 18 January 1776. Location: Hampshire County. Description: 390 acres on the drains of the North Fork of the NORTH RIVER of CACAPEHON Source: VA Northern Neck Grants Q, 1775-1778, p. 18-19 (Reel 297). Obannon, Joseph. Publication 6 April 1792. Location: Hampshire County. Description: 28 acres on the top of the South Branch Mountain on the head spring of a run that empties in the NORTH RIVER of Great CAPAEHON at Devauls Cabbin and about three miles from where FRANCIS COOMES now lives.
