Linda Reno You Said in reference to Mary Mills (MEDLEY) (WIMSATT): No, she was married only twice--first to Clement Medley and second to Ignatius Wimsatt. Ok. You stated: Sorry, I'm not following. Why does Mary ____wife of Ignatius Medcalf have to be a daughter of Margaret Combs? Also, take this into consideration: My note to Pete Himmelheber, 3/2/2008: 10/1793: Citation against William Holton and Margaret, his wife, Execs. of Matthew Medley. (Orphan Ct. Rec., Fenwick). Deed from Ignatius and Mary Medcalf to Margaret Holton for "Part of Hampton", 30 ac., 9/13/1796. Deed from Ignatius and Mary Medcalf to John Greenwell, Jr. for "Part of No Name", 22 ac., 9/13/1796. Deed from Ignatius and Mary Medcalf to Margaret Holton for "Part of Hampton", 30 ac., 9/13/1796. Deed from Ignatius and Mary Medcalf to Solomon Jones for "Part of Hampton", 47 ac., 9/13/1796. Deed from Ignatius and Mary Medcalf to Philip Ford for "Part of Hampton", 42 ac., 9/13/1796. Deed from Ignatius and Mary Medcalf to Philip Ford for "Dry Docking", 162 1/2 ac., 9/13/1796. Deed from Ignatius and Mary Medcalf to John Drury for "Part of No Name", 77 ac., 9/13/1796 (Chr. of SM). In other words, Mary MILLS MEDLEY has outlived all of her sons. She settles with her daughter-in-law Margaret (Combs) and transfers Matthew's share of the property. The daughters, as usually happened, received personal estate at the time of their marriages. Linda Reno I have no problem understanding that Mary MILLS MEDLEY transfers Matthew Medley's share of the property to his wife Margaret COMBS. And I suppose Margaret COMBS Medley may just have sold the land, she got from her mother in law Mary MILLS (MEDLEY) Let me explain some of my thinking. Margaret COMBS daughter of (William Combs and Mary Eleanor Taney)marries Mathew Medley son of Clement Medley and Mary MILLS, she marries 2nd to William HOLTON(don't have any details on him)and third Phillip NORRIS. So in these first two deeds the Same Margaret Combs once as married to Phillip Norris, and Once as married to William HOLTON is doing a land deal with Ignatius Medcalf and wife Mary ? Maybe there is no connection and maybe Margaret COMBS (MEDLEY)(HOLTON)(NORRIS)is just selling her land. All the other Deeds Ignatius Medcalf and wife Mary ? are selling some of the same land, thy either bought, or inherited by (MEDLEY)(HOLTON)(NORRIS) But it would seem logical that since Margaret COMBS had three husbands she likely had children from one of them. It seems to me there might be a possibility that Mary ? wife of Ignatius Medcalf, might be a daughter of Margaret COMBS by one of her husbands. And Personally I believe it was from her 1st husband Mathew MEDLEY. Maybe there is no documention to prove Margaret COMBS (MEDLEY)(HOLTON)(NORRIS) had any children by any husband. I currently have no children for Margaret Combs by any of her husbands. In both of these Deeds involving Ignatius Medcalf and wife Mary ? Margaret Combs is involved Deed to Philip Norris from Ignatius Medcalf and wife, "Part of Hampton", 30 ac., 9/13/1796 (Chr.of SM). Deed from Ignatius and Mary Medcalf to Margaret Holton for "Part of Hampton", 30 ac., 9/13/1796. Now this deed to Charles Gregory GREENWELL married three times. 1st to Monica WILLIAMS, 2nd to Elizabeth A. COMBS, and third to Priscilla MEDLEY Elizabeth A. Combs was a daughter of Enoch Combs and Ann Roach. And this Enoch Combs a son of Enoch Combs and Mary Manning. The Enoch Combs who married Mary Manning was a brother to William Combs who married Mary Eleanor TANEY, parents of Margaret COMBS(MEDLEY)(HOLTON)(NORRIS) So Margaret Combs (MEDLEY)(HOLTON)(NORRIS) is related to Elizabeth A. Combs wife of Charles Gregory GREENWELL Deed from Philip and Margaret Norris to Charles G. Greenwell for "Hampton",30 ac.,6/26/1798 (Chr.of SM).Chr. of SM. On these three deeds below I don't know which Phillip Ford this is or who he married. Same with who John Greenwell is or who he married. I have three Solomon Jones. One who married Ann FENWICK, another who married Monica Van RESWICK, and another Solomon JONES who married Catherine BURNS Deed from Ignatius and Mary Medcalf to Philip Ford for "Part of Hampton", 42 ac., 9/13/1796. Deed from Ignatius and Mary Medcalf to John Greenwell, Jr. for "Part of No Name", 22 ac. 9/13/1796. Deed from Ignatius and Mary Medcalf to Solomon Jones for "Part of Hampton",47 ac., 9/13/1796. So I guess My question is, did Ignatius and Mary Medcalf just buy this land >From Margaret COMBS (MEDLEY)(HOLTON)(NORRIS) or was it passed along to a daughter. I'm pretty sure Ignatius Medcalf has no relationship to Margaret COMBS (MEDLEY)(HOLTON)(NORRIS), unless it be through his wife Mary. Keep in mind this same Ignatius Medcalf married 2nd to Elizabeth "Betsy" Combs whose Ancestry follows a different Combs line, but one likely related more distantly to Margaret COMBS (MEDLEY)(HOLTON)(NORRIS) If there is no Proof then I guess my reasoning has no merit, but I just bring it up just in case we are overlooking a possible clue.
