Good Morning Mike, Norma, Linda and list, I have the following to add to the discussion, and Mike I think you've made a discovery that corrects old Piles family info. John Chesley 98.144 SM £3261.4.3; May 9 1768; Dec 3 1768 Appraisers: John Wheatly, William Kilgour Creditors: Samuel Abell, Jr., for Normand Bruce, James Bate nok: Richard Bile [note: Pile smoller] Extx: Elisabeth Chesley John Chesley, Esq. 98.125 SM £289.6.3; Dec 4 1767; Dec 3 1768 List of debts. Extx: Elisabeth Chesley John Chesley, Esq. 98.126 SM ___; Dec 4 1767; Dec 3 1768 List of debts. Extx: Elisabeth Chesley I've researched Piles families and there was a Dr. Richard Pile son of Dr. Wm Pile (d. 1732/3) in PG Co., that was married to Eliabeth Sprigg his 1st cousin, this is according to Pile family records, she was the dau. of Maj. Edward Sprigg (d. 1751) and Elizabeth Pile. But upon looking at what Mike has and what Linda had, I think this Elizabeth wife of Dr. Richard Pile s/o Dr. Wm Pile and Elizabeth Hutchinson, who m. 2nd Geo. Parker is not a Sprigg but the dau of Elizabeth Greenfield or Chesley. Also this Dr. Richard Pile is said to accding to Pile family info, have died in Berkley Co., VA ca 1780. And I had the following in his file.... FROM PRINCE GEORGE'S LAND RECORDS 1746-1749 Page 368. Feb 12, 1747 from Edward Sprigg of PG, surviving exec. of the will of Richard Pile, late of PG, Chirurgeon, to Richard Pile of PG. Whereas the afd Richard Pile, Chirurgeon, by his will, appointed the several tracts of land hereafter mentioned, to be sold in a convenient time, and the money arising by the sale thereof to be equally divided between his 2 grandsons, Richard & William Piles, sons of his son, William Pile, viz, a parcel of land by him formerly purchased of Soloman Rothery & Leonard Holliday, containing about 130 acres. Also a tract of land called Jones Plantation, containing about 50 acres. Also, a tract of land, Belts Purchase, containing about 50 acres. And also a tract of land called Copes Hill, containing about 40 acres. Therefore he, the sd Edward Sprigg, for 140 £, sells to Richard Pile, all those 2 tracts of land, the one called the Second Lott, being deducted out of the land called the Beginning & Ryleys Folly & near or adjoining to Collington Branch, bounded by the land lately laid out for John Turner, the land of John Demal called Something, then to the Back Branch and to its mouth, containing about 130 acres; the other, called Copes Hill, lies on the east side of Collington Branch in PG near Samuel Brasheirs Mill, bounded by a tract of land called Brock Hall, containing about 40 acres. Signed - Edw Sprigg. Wit - Willm Smith*, Geo: Parker*. Recorded Feb 13, 1747/48. Page 499. Aug 19, 1748 from George Parker & Elizabeth, his wife, of PG, to Richard Pile of PG. Whereas William Hutchison of PG, in 1708, had granted to him by Charles, then Lord Baltimore, 219 acres of land called Hogg Pen, lying in PG, which sd land the sd William Hutchison, in his will, bequeathed to his daughter Elizabeth, wife to the sd George Parker, and party to this deed. Therefore, the sd George & Elizabeth, his wife, for the natural affection they have for the sd Richard Pile, and also for divers causes, they grant to sd Richard Pile, all that tract of land called Hogg Pen, lying in PG, and beginning at the end of the ENE line of a tract of land called Hickory Hills, containing about 219 acres, according to the certificate of survey thereof, taken and returned into the Land Office, bearing date Oct 10, 1708. Aug 19, 1748 from George Parker of PG, Gent, and Elizabeth, his wife, who was widow and relict of William Pile of PG, decd, to William Pile of PG, Gent, son to the sd William & Elizabeth. Whereas the afd William Pile was, in his lifetime, and at the time of his death, seized in his demesne as of fee, of and in divers lands and tenements in PG, amongst others, of and in a tract of land called the Addition, containing 183 acres, and of and in a parcel of land called the Mistake, containing 84 acres, whereof the sd Elizabeth has been heretofore endowed. And whereas the sd George Parker and Elizabeth, his wife, for 5 shillings sterling, and for divers other good causes, give to sd William Pile, all their right to the sd 2 tracts of land called the Addition & the Mistake. Signed - Geo Parker, Eliz: (E her mark) Parker. Wit - Pet Dent*, Thos. Marshall*. Recorded Aug 27, 1748. Page 503. Aug 19, 1748 from Richard Pile of PG, Gent, to William Pile of PG, Gent. Whereas William Pile, decd, father to the sd Richard & William, the parties to these presents, did, by his will, amongst other things, devise to his son, William Pile, I tract of land called the Addition, containing 183 acres, that part of a tract of land called the Mistake which he had bought of Mr. Thomas Marshall, containing 84 acres, and a tract of land lately taken up but not then returned into the Office, called Piles' Discovery, lying between Pomunkie Cr and the land he had with his wife. And whereas it is apprehended that an estate for life only passes in the sd land by the sd devise, and that the sd Richard Pile, who is the heir at law to their testator, William Pile afd, may Pe entitled to the reversion or remainder thereof, this deed therefore witnesses that the sd Richard Pile, for 20 shillings, and for divers other good causes, grants to the sd William Pile, all the reversions & remainders, present & future estate, right, title, use, interest, & demand of him, the sd Richard Pile, of, in, and to the sd 3 tracts of land before mentioned, called the d Addition, The Mistake, and Piles' Discovery. Thanks for what I consider confirmation. For some reason, I didn't have the admin. accts. of John Chesley dated 5/9/1768 in which he's named NOK of John Chesley. Also, Richard Pile didn't marry Elizabeth Greenfield, daughter of Truman Greenfield and Elizabeth Parker as she married first, John Cartwright and second, John Hammett. This takes us full circle and back to the admin. accts. of George Greenfield, 1/2 brother of Elizabeth Chesley and full brother of Elizabeth Greenfield. 11/7/1751: Admin. accts. of George Greenfield, SMC.
