That is a good question. A man named William "Sute" got land with Wm. Penn as did True and a few other names that may connect to SMC. Most of the family of this William "Sute" called themselves "Shute" and were Quakers in So. PA and Phila vicinity. There were Suite and Shute in MD as well. A man named Giles Shute was convicted of stealing a horse in the MD Archives. This happened ca. earliest 1700's in MD. I think maybe Cecil Co (don't have the record in front of me.) But anyway, he quicky moved away to the state of NC and his decendants seem to be mixed in with SUIT there and both names seem to get mixed up. Then, in the will of Peter Banner-- his daughter's name is written as "Ann Shute" which I believe is erroneous and it is SUIT as her brother even lived next dr. to Benjamin Suit n 1800 in SMC. My late 2nd cousin, Louise Suite Padgett once told me the teachers in school tried to tell her she was "Sweet". She said she was not. So- it varies-- but apparently some stick an "h" sound in it. I also wonder about some families in Dorchester CO MD as Duit and Juit but who have the same names as our Suit people. The jury is still out on them.
