RE: 1859 will of Wm. Suit of Granville Co NC s/o John Suit & Susannah Locke (Granville Co. NC) William Suit who died 1859 was the s/o John Suit and Susannah Locke. He was NOT the same man as William Suite, Jr. who had money troubles and had been in Caswell Co NC because this particular William wasn't b. until ca. 1800. But probably a nephew as that man was connected to Jesse Carter who was the guardian to Robert L. Harrison and this particular William named his own son "Robert L. Suit." No proof-- just the name. of his ONLY son. I think he may be grandson of Benjamin Suit--but can't prove it. He WAS the correct William Suit who was father of Harriet Suit who married Charles W. Parham. I had her INCORRECTLY listed as d/o William Riley Suit-- we now know from this will that she belongs with this William Suit and not the other. This William is brother to the James Suit who had died in 1815 after the War of 1812. I do have his estate papers-- but that James was intestate. This guy is his brother and it DOES happily tell us the names of his surviving children when he died in 1859. (yeah!) Considering the uncertainty of any earthly existence I (,) William Suit of the county of Granville and state of North Carolina, do make and ordain this my last Willa and Testament in manor and from following to wit- Viz. Item 1: I Give and bequeath to my beloved wife Susan Miranda the tract of land wherein I now live, containing about three hundred Acres— more or less—to have and to hold in fee simple during her natural life and at her death the above named land shall descend to the present heirs of her body. Item 2nd: I Give and bequest to my Daughter, Harriet Parham, One hundred acres of land to be taken from either the northern or southern End as she may desire, of the above mentioned tract of land to have and to hold the said land in fee simple during her natural life and then to descend to the heirs of her body. This bequest is to be taken from a part of the whole tract of land above bequeathed to my wife, leaving her the remainder supposing to contain three hundred acres more or less as above specified. Item 3rd: I Give and bequeath to my beloved wife Susan Miranda two negro slaves Richmond and (unreadable) to have the same to her then present heirs— Of her body. (page 2) Item 4th: I Give and bequest to my Daughter, Harriet Parham A negro boy Jordan to have and to hold the same during her natural life and then belong to the heirs of her body. Item 5th: I Give and bequest to my son Robert L. Suit a negro boy Sprigg. Item 6th: I give and bequest to my Daughter Martha E Suit and her heirs a negro boy Mark—I desire the said boy shall remain with my wife on the plantation to aid in support of her and her children until my Daughter Martha shall become of lawful age. I also Give and bequeath to my said Daughter a negro Girl Sally and her increase upon the same condition of bequest as of boy Mark.-- Item 7th: I Give to my Daughter Elizabeth Williams and her heirs a negro boy Johnson and Girl Jane, and her increase. They to remain as other negroes bequeathed to my daughter Martha. Item 8th: I Give and bequeath to my sister Susan and heirs one hundred and fifty Dollars to be placed in the hands of my son Robert L. Suit for benefit and support. WIGGINS, Clerk SOURCE: Granville County Wills, 1749-1768 CR,044.801.36 John SUIT, 1840 ---------- Finally, I do have a copy of the estate of James Suit, s/o John and brother of Wiliam Suit/Suite whose wills are above. He spelled it with the "e" but his legatees were mostly all members of the family of John suit above. I checked the NC Archives and they said they have no marriage bond reocrds for James Suit or Suite. Seems like he was just a very young single guy who died right after the War of 1812. He was in the same company as Zachariah Lyon in that war.)
