No I disagree . George H. Howard (was the son of John Baptist HOWARD )and he married Mary "Polly" Merrifield. George H. HOWARD had a son George W. HOWARD and he married Susan W. Cofer . There is still another earlier George W. HOWARD born 7 Feb 1782 Maryland, United States died 12 May 1861 Daviess, Kentucky, United States that married Mary Ann BURCH, this is the one who went to Daviess County, KY, but he is not the son of John Baptist HOWARD, we thought so originally, but proved it wrong, 7 Feb 1782 Maryland, United States died 12 May 1861 Daviess, Kentucky, United States that married Mary Ann BURCH, this is the one who went to Daviess County, KY, but he is not the son of John Baptist HOWARD, we thought so originally, but proved it wrong, I did lots of research before I figured out which one was the son of John Baptist HOWARD. George H. HOWARD was born abt 1778 and married 15 Nov 1798 Nelson, Kentucky, United States Mary"Polly" MERRIFIELD George H. Howard went to Hardin County, KY which is near Nelson County, KY. 15 Nov 1798 Nelson, Kentucky, United States Mary"Polly" MERRIFIELD George H. Howard went to Hardin County, KY which is near Nelson County, KY. George W. Howard who married Mary Ann BURCH has a father James HOWARD, So either this George W. HOWARD was a son of the James Howard who died in 1802 or some other James Howard. Problem is the James Howard who died in 1802 does not mention a son George Howard in his will. So you have a real problem trying to claim this George W. Howard was a son of John Baptist HOWARD. Won't work. keep in mind that Eleanor "Nelly" Baptist Howard married Abraham BRAY in nelson County, KY and went to Grayson County, KY, H ardin County, Ky is right next door which is where George H. Howard was. also Mary Howard who married Jacob Corbet had a daughter Julia Ann Corbet who married Leo Clark, they also went to grayson County, KY. 1850 Grayson County, KY dwelling #120 Leo Clark age 45 M farmer $130 b. War pensioner from Washington Co. KY. On 9/25/1826 he gave his age as about 68 years old. He enlisted at Port Tobacco, Charles Co. MD on 3/2/1777. He made a earlier pension application that was rejected because he made the request from Nelson Co. KY. He was told that he had to made the application to the Washington Co. Court, the county of his residence. His wife was not named but was very infirm, 59 years old and nearly deranged for the past 7 years. Also living in the household was his daughter, Mary, 22 years old March next, Julia Anne, 20 years old June next, James who was 18 years old April next and Eliza, 13 years old February next. He also states that his son, James and daughter Julia Ann were soon to be married. Notice date on Jacob Corbet’s war pension it states it was from Washington Co. KY. On 9/25/1826. notice it states Also living in the household was his daughter Julia Anne, 20 years old June next He also states that his son, James and daughter Julia Ann were soon to be married. If Julia Ann Corbett was 20 in 1826 she was born about 1806/1807. If you understand that Mary Howard (Corbet) or Corby or Carby is the sister of Eleanor "Nelly" Baptist Howard who married Abraham Bray, and when you study my Clark family to see how closely they are connected to the Johnson’s and the Howard’s and when you see that Abraham Bray was in Nelson County, KY with his wife then moved to Grayson County, KY, where Ann Johnson Langley also is found. Now below is the marriage record of James Corbet to Nancy Cissell. James Corbett was the son of Jacob Corbett, and Mary Howard, but what makes it obvious is who signs the bond. Mathew J. Cissell was the son of Mathew Cissell and Sarah Howard- who was a sister to Mary Howard wife of Jacob Corbet. therefore Mathew J. Cissell was the 1st cousin of James Corbet, and Julian Ann Corbett (Clark) I found a marriage record from Washington Co. where James Corbet married Nancy Cissell. The bond was signed by Matthew J. Cissell. 11/19/1831 Wash. Co. Marriage Book 2, page 310. this below is the George W. Howard who married Mary Ann BURCH Howard, George to Anna Burch, m 5 Sep 1818, from m register. I went to her house n Whitesville and bought the book from her years ago, and wasted many years sing the wrong information. loysius [Lawson] Howard (1815-1862) and Basil P. Howard (1801-1883) were the wo sons of Charles Howard and Frances Ann "Panny" Thompson. I think Anna got he middle name "Pottinger" from a letter written May 19, 1945 from Patrick llen Howard to Boone Cyrus Howard. I'm quoting just the relevant portion. "My Greatgrandfather, Charles Howard, and one brother went to Maryland and from here settled in Marion County, Kentucky. My grandfather, Basil Pottinger oward, and a brother, Aloysius, came to Davis County, settled near Whitesville, nd raised several children. Their descendants are quite numerous in this part f Davis County." I agree that John Baptist Howard and James Howard are probably brothers. My ersonal suspicion, for which I have absolutely no proof, is that they may be he sons of Henry (bef. 1724 - bef 24 Aug 1775) and Mary Howard of Newtown undred, St. Mary's, Maryland. I'm always ready to be convinced by documentation, but you haven't given me any yet. What is your source for George W. Howard having a father named James? I’ll continue to think he’s the son of John Baptist Howard until I get some proof. I think that the George Howard who married Polly Merrifield was probably a member of the Protestant Howards, either those from Pennsylvania or Virginia. I went looking through my microfilm today to see if I could find out anything else. I went through 4 rolls of microfilm, but couldn't find a marriage bond for George Howard and Anna Burch. They were only listed in the Marriage Register in Nelson County as having a Bond on 5 Sept 1818. I did find a Nelson county marriage bond on 14 Nov 1798 for George Howard and Polly Merrifield, daughter of Thomas Merrifield. The sureties were George Howard and Thomas Sweets. I don't know the connection between them. I made a quick check on Ancestry and Thomas Sweets is said to be from Massachusetts. It appears he was about the same age as George. Here are a few additions on the children of George W. Howard (7 Feb 1782 - 12 May 1861) and Anna Burch. 1. James Ronymous Howard (1819 Nelson, KY – 21 May 1864 Daviess, KY) m. 6 April 1858 Nelson, KY (by James Elliott, Catholic Priest) Ellen E Greenwell (1838 Nelson, KY - ?), daughter of Philip Greenwell & Lucintha Young 2. Mary Aloyada “Loity” Howard (27 Apr 1820 Nelson, KY – 24 Oct 1868 West Louisville, Daviess, KY) m.26 Feb 1838 George Washington Thompson (1816 Nelson, KY – 24 Oct 1861) son of Charles Lloyd Thompson 3. George W. Howard who married Mary Ann BURCH has a father James HOWARD, So either his George W. HOWARD was a son of the James Howard who died in 1802 or some ther James Howard. Problem is the James Howard who died in 1802 does not ention a son George Howard in his will. So you have a real problem trying to laim this George W. Howard was a son of John Baptist HOWARD. Also living in the household was his daughter, Mary, 22 years old March ext, Julia Anne, 20 years old June next, James who was 18 years old April next nd Eliza, 13 years old February next. He also states that his son, James and daughter Julia Ann were soon to be arried. Notice date on Jacob Corbet’s war pension it states it was from Washington Co. Y.
