Joseph William Howard was living with his brother, Leonard Joseph Howard in 1860 (St. Mary's Co.). No idea why his name was given as Leonard R. Howard and an even better question is why wasn't Susan Milburn (his wife) and the children listed with Leonard Joseph Howard in 1870--but they weren't. Again according to the equity cases, Leonard Jr. had a schooner "Matilda", and judging from the talk about barrels of fish, was a fisherman. Do you know how he ended up in Washington, D.C.? How was the date of death arrived at? I was looking this morning at census records for Joseph A Howard, the son of Leonard Howard Sr. & Ann Steel. In the 1840 census he and Jane Maryman had 2 children, a boy and a girl, both born between 1831-1835. In the 1850 census he lists his occupation as sailor, and they had 3 children: Jane A born 1836, Albert born 1843 and Joseph born 1846. The family doesn't appear in the 1860 census, but it looks like the youngest son Joseph is living with a Leonard R Howard, age 26, and his wife. Is it possible that this was the oldest son of Joseph A Howard and Jane Maryman? Do you have anything on them? I have Leonard Howard, the son of George Howard and Anastasia Spink, as born bout 1763 and dying "on or about" 1 June 1815 according to the equity case or the Carberry heirs. I have his wives as Appalonia Brown (1752- bef. 803) and Ann Steel (married 13 Jul 1805). I have a daughter Appalonia for im. >From the Carberry case, which has a transcription of Peter Carberry's will, he above Leonard Howard is called Leonard Howard Sen. On the date of the ase in 1815 "a certain" Leonard Howard had recently married Peter arberry's daughter Eleanor. In Peter's will of 1811 Eleanor was not yet 16. o I'm assuming this Leonard Howard was probably the son of Leonard Howard en. and Appalonia Brown. Is this correct?
