http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=24380764 This link should get you to Richard Spalding's grave at Holy Name of Mary on Find-A-Grave. I am not sure why he is being called Richard Augustine Spalding. You can find links to his 3 wives. I contacted Mrs. Wathen in Bardstown yesterday & she got the person who posted the Archbishop to link the Archbishop to his parents. So there is now a link between the Spalding group at Holy Name of Mary with the Archbishop in the crypt of the Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in downtown Baltimore. Check these links out & comment - esp. on wife # 2. Thanks, David
I have a copy of the following: "Catholic Pioneers of the Rolling Fork Settlememt Vol 1, "., 1977, , by T. Gerald Thompson. Gerald lives in the area. p 41 Richard Spalding b 1777, m 1801, d 1850 1817 1827 p 40 Henrietta (Hamilton) Spalding b 1780 m 1801, d 1815 Henrietta (Thompson) Spalding b 1786, m 1817, d 1826 p 41 Mary (Charlton) Adams Spalding b 1792, m 1827, d 1850 Thought... I had a copy of the cemetery records of Holy Name of Mary, by Fr. Lyons. If so simply cannot find such. Fr. Lyons abstracted most of the early Catholic Church records of KY. Originals are at Bellermine College, Louisville, KY copies at the Filson Club, :Louisville, KY and copies of about 25 of such at the DAR Lib in Wash DC. THANKS to everyone who answered or suggested an answer to my query on Richard Spalding's 2nd wife. You folks are really great ! I am going to call her {wife #2} a Thompson, but note that some sources show her as an Abell. That way, a future researcher should be alerted to the potential conflict of information. I have only one more First Lady Lady item on tap for our series in the "Generator" on the 3 First Ladies w/ Southern Maryland ancestry: the connection between General "Dick" Taylor's daughter to the McIlhenny Tobasco sauce people at Avery Island, Louisiana. The 3 First Ladies have been: Mrs. General U. S. Grant; Mrs. John Quincy Adams; & Mrs. General Zachary Taylor. We carried the Louisa Catherine Johnson Adams line the farthest - to her uncle Gov. Thomas Johnson of Maryland & down to the line to historian Henry Adams, who spoke of his "quarter taint" of Maryland blood. If there are any others, please let me know. "Famous People" series - I am starting with Archbishop Spalding; I am planning on including Don Mattingly, Paris Hilton, Roy Rogers, Chief Justice Roger B. Taney, Bishop Fenwick of Boston, Barton W. Stone {a founder of the Disciples of Christ/Christian Church} .... who else would you suggest ? Who am I missing ? I'm looking for people w/ roots in St. Mary's County - or Charles &/or Calvert - but would like at least some connection to St. Mary's. Again, the commercial ! If you are not a member of the St. Mary's County Genealogical Society, please consider joining us & contributing to the "Generator." Thanks again, everybody !
