Linda Reno, here is another letter that may be relevant to our discussion Abstracts Of The Balance Books Of The Prerogative Court Of Maryland Libers 2 There was another Thomas Clarke, brother of Ignatius Clarke, who died prior to 1788 who married Mary Langley, widow of Jonathan Biscoe. Will of Mary Clarke, SMC, 3/8/1788-6/3/1788. Daughter: Cynthia Clarke, a horse named Pompey and a mare named Fly. Son: Ignatius Clarke, three negroes named Charles, Robert, and Linah. He is to receive his estate at the age of 18. Daughter: Ann Clarke, four negroes named Abraham, Jacob, Ninian, and Grace. Brother: Ignatius Clarke, is to take my children with their estate and to act as a guardian to them. Exec: Brother, Ignatius Clarke and Son, Ignatius Clarke. Wit: Richard Barnhouse, George Pembroke, John Horn Clarke. I'm not quite sure what this means: "and using your explanation it makes no since why Chales Clarke who was supposed to be the son of the Thomas Clarke who married Mary Langley(why this Charles Clarke has Worthinton's or Weatherinton's on his document. unless the same Thomas Clarke who married Joanna ? the widow of John Weatherinton was the same Thomas Clarke who married Mary Langley." BUT.....I also had Charles Clarke as the son of Thomas and Mary Langley until I looked more closely at the record. As you can see above, Mary (Langley) Biscoe/Clarke did not name a son Charles in her will and in addition, if she'd had a son named Charles Clarke, he would have been a minor at the time of her will. Mary (Langley) didn't marry Thomas Clarke until 1775. The Charles Clarke in question was born prior to 1769. Here are some notes on him (and the same notes that convinced me that he'd married Alanda Biscoe, daughter of Mary (Langley) by her first husband: 4/19/1789: bapt., at St. Ign., Charles of Charles and Lynda Clark. GP: Ign. and Anna Clark. (Jesuit Missions). 6/7/1789: Bapt., at St. Ign., nig. of Charles and Syna (Lynda?) Clark. (Jesuit Missions). Alanda (Biscoe) Clarke died and then Charles Clarke m. second, Ann Evans, 3/10/1797. I don't have parents for Charles Clarke yet and I haven't had time to digest the Weatherington records. Regarding, Ignatius, brother-in-law and also Ignatius, son of Mary (Langley) Biscoe/Clarke: "I don't disagree that she had a brother in Law ignatius Clarke, but I don't think her brother in Law Ignatius Clarke was the one who married Jane Theobald." Not sure where that's coming from. I don't believe I said that her brother-in-law, Ignatius Clarke married Jane Theobold because that's certainly not how I have it in my records. It was her son, Ignatius Clarke who married Jane Theobold. Her brother-in-law, Ignatius Clarke (brother of Thomas) married first, Ann Fenwick and second, Frances _____and Frances m. second, Joseph Leigh. Will of Ignatius Clarke, SMC, 10/26/1788-4/7/1789. Son: Ignatius Clarke, a gold broach. He has already been provided for by a deed of gift. Sons: Thomas Clarke, Richard Clarke and John Clarke, all of my lands being part of "Cross Manor" and part of "Elizabeth Manor." Wife: Frances Clarke, to have her dower in the land. If she is with child, that child is to have an equal share of my land. Wife and Children: Frances Clarke, Ignatius Clarke, Thomas Clarke, Richard Clarke, and John Clarke, the balance of my personal estate. Exec: Wife, Frances. Wit: Wm. Herbert, John Horn Clarke, Helena Fenwick. Ignatius Clarke, son of the above Ignatius Clarke is the one who married Aloysia Hill and went to KY. Note that he was an adult at the time of his father's will.
