Margaret Clarke (FOGLE) was the mother of Margaret FOGLE who married Robert JOHNSON who according to my research appears to be the son of George JOHNSON and Eleanor DAWSON. George JOHNSON being the son of Leonard JOHNSON and Mary MOLLIHORNE. Margaret Clarke (FOGLE) was the Grandmother of Margaret Amanda JOHNSON who married Robert Able LUSH son of William LUSH and Elizabeth GREENWELL (Daughter of Charles GREENWELL and Mary BROWN) Mary BROWN (GREENWELL) being the daughter of Peter BROWN and Frances JARBOE Margaret Clarke (FOGLE) was also the mother of Teresa FOGLE who married John JOHNSON(who I have as the son of John JOHNSON and Dorothy MILES) not sure John JOHNSON's parents are correct. I recieved this letter a few days ago. Hello Jerry, My name is Ann Gilchrest, I am a descendent of Joseph Fogle & Margaret Clark through there daughter Ellen. I discovered a post of yours on the St. Mary's County Maryland mailing list from 2006 the subject was Margaret Amanda Johnson. One of the questions you asked was who did the above Margaret Clark belong to. From the LaRue County death records for 1857, she died on 05 December 1857 in LaRue County. Her parents are listed as Thomas & Mary Clark. Margaret was listed as 92 born in Maryland My question for you since 2006 have you discovered any more information about Margaret Clark? I have some information on the Fogle's. I don't know who Joseph's father was but I do have a list of siblings for him. Thank you for your time, Ann Gilchrest [email protected] now here is the reason why I ask. I would like to clarify where we stand on the Thomas Clarke who married Mary LANGLEY. Will of William Langley, SMC, 10/20/1775-4/17/1776: Son, William Langley, the tobacco and other things he already has; Daughter: Ann Smith, two negroes named Fatty and Vincy that she already has; Daughter: Mary Clarke, Exec: Son-in-Law, Thomas Clarke. Wit: Thomas Griffin, John Elmore, John Clarke. is it possible that Thomas CLARKE who married Mary LANGLEY could have had a daughter Margaret CLARKE who married Joseph FOGLE? I know of no other Thomas Clarke and Mary ? that could possibly be her parents. If anyone else does please help us. I can't remember where we stand on the Thomas CLARKE who married Susanna HORN. I currently have this Thomas CLARKE as the son of Thomas Clarke and GRACE GREENWELL. Is this the same Thomas CLARKE who married Joanna ? Widow of John WORTHINGTON? and is this the same Thomas CLARKE who married Mary LANGLEY? I remember the last time I talked to you we both agreed the Thomas CLARKE who was son of Thomas CLARKE and GRACE GREENWELL was the one who married Susanna HORN here is your old letter Hi Jerry, Thomas and Cuthbert Clarke were paid by the estate--they weren't sureties. I agree that these two were brothers and sons of Thomas Clarke and Grace Greenwell. Agree that Cuthbert m. Mary Ann Brown. Don't know who Thomas married but he left two children. Will of Thomas Clarke, Sr., SMC, 1/20/1777-2/15/1777. Daughter: Priscilla Clarke, a negro wench named Hannah and an equal part of the rest of my estate. Exec.: Son, Ignatius Clarke. Wit: John Horn Abell, John Dunbar. (Maryland Calendar of Wills). I do have Susanna Horn m. to a Thomas Clarke and it would seem to make sense that it was Thomas, brother of Cuthbert. Same area, same cast of characters, same time. We're disagreeing on who was who though. You say that Thomas Clarke later married Susanna Horn. I'm saying he was married to her by 1748. The Thomas Clarke who died in 1783 had a wife named Susanna, but she wasn't Susanna Horn. Besides, you said that this Thomas Clarke was also married to Joanna, widow of John Worthington (I carry the surname Witherington). If so, Susanna Horn was dead prior to 1760. Your belief is that the Thomas Clarke who died in 1783 was the one who m. Susanna Horn and I don't think so. I'm sure you base this on him having a brother named Robert. While Thomas Clarke, Jr. did have a brother named Robert, it's not the same guy. I believe that one (d. 1783) was the son of Robert Clarke and wife, Mary. He also had a brother named Robert who he named in his will as executor. Robert died before the estate was settled and he was replaced by his nephew, Matthias Clarke--the son of his brother, Robert. Will of Thomas Clarke, SMC, 6/5/1783-8/5/1783. Son: George Clarke, a negro named Lewis; one young horse; and a saddle and bridle. Daughter: Nancy Clarke, a negro named Jesse. Daughter: Anna Clarke, a negro named Nace. Son: Thomas Clarke, a negro named Dick. Exec: Brother, Robert Clarke. Wit: Moses Davis, William Loker. NOTE: The widow, Susanna Clarke, renounced this will and claimed her third. (St. Mary's County, Maryland Wills, 1776-1791 by Linda Reno and Joann Humphries). 11/6/1788: Admin. accts. of Thomas Clarke, SMC. Administrator de bonis non: Matthias Clarke. Widow, Susanna Clarke, 1/3. Residue equally to 4 children: George Clarke, Nancy Clarke, Anna Clarke, Thomas Clarke. 11/6/1788: Admin. accts. of Robert Clarke, SMC. Admin.: Matthias Clarke. Representatives, equally: Matthias Clarke, Lavinia Taylor, Charlotte Clarke, Robert Clarke, Mary Clarke, Caleb Clarke. (SMC Balances and Distributions).2/12/1738: Admin. accts. of Robert Clarke, SMC. Sureties: John Wilkinson, James Wilkinson. Distribution to: widow (accountant, 1/3). Residue to (orphans): William, Matthew, Robert, Richard, and Thomas Clarke. Adm: Mary Clarke. I have no record of a Susanna Heard m. to a Clarke. Report follows on Robert Clarke III (son of Robert Clarke, Jr. and Sarah Combs). Linda Reno [[email protected]]Wed 4/1/2009 4:00 PM
