Gayle, If you're correct on the godparents, my guess would be that this William Bowles was the son of John Bowles, Jr. and wife, Susanna. Ann (Gough) Howard was William's 1st cousin, and if I've got the right William she was also his sister-in-law as, Ignatius Bowles, brother of this William, married Catherine Gough, Ann's sister. Would this be the William Bowles who died 1839 in Washington Co., KY? His wife's name wasn't given in his will. I have his wife as Mary Cissell with no notes at all. I don't have any information yet on William Bowles. I have a few different Mary Cissells, but none that fit as William Bowles' wife. 1. Mary Cissell daughter of James Cissell (1680-1717) and Rachel Adams. 2. Mary Cissell (1776 Leonardtown, St. Mary's, MD - bef 1806 Nelson, KY) daughter of John Baptist Cissell and Susannah Brewer. She married Charles Howard, son of John Baptist Howard and Elizabeth Johnson on 22 Dec 1796 in Nelson, KY. 3. Mary Cissell (abt 1790 - bef Jan 1815) daughter of Peter Cissell (1764-1803) and Eleanor Gough. She married John Hanson Burch on 16 Sep 1811 in Nelson, KY. She is the one mentioned in the will of Thomas Howard in 1810, along with his sister-in-law Eleanor Cissell. My other Mary Cissells were all born in the 19th century.
