Hello. I don't know what is going on with the list but my last 6 emails have NOW BOUNCED. I have written to Linda to get this fixed. I even tried re-subscribing! But anyway-- here is my reply: Benjamin Suit witnessed that Edwards' 1784 will and was DEFINITELY connected to Carter, especially Jesse Carter of Caswell Co NC who was part of the large Carter family in Lancaster Co VA. But the exact connection has not been proven. Was one of his wives a Carter? Was his mother related to the Carters? etc. But we know from Thomas Suit's will that his aunt did marry a Joseph Edwards:Bet. 16 Oct 1765 - 04 Nov 1771 Linda had sent: Suite, Thomas Thomas Suite, SMC 10/16/1765-11/4/1771. I sent one the other day and since-- every single one has bounced! Benjamin SUITE/SUIT witnessed the will and he is "somehow" closely related to the CARTER family of Lancaster Co VA. Some descendants on genforum have stated he lived there for a while but I do not know where they got that information. However, he was probably the father of the Willliam Suite who owed Jesse Carter's estate money in Caswell Co NC I think it was abt. 1815 approx. William Suite & Jesse Carter were also in the 1802 estate sale of a man named Diavid Shelton in Caswell Co NC. Jesse Carter was from the Carter family of Lancaster Co. VA but had removed to Cawell Co NC where he died. The point is-- it is probably NOT a coincidence that Benjamin Suit witnessed this Edwards' will and that he is kin to the Carter family. It just has not been determined how at this point. The HARRISON familiy is also very connected to this same Jesse Carter and he was guardian to Robert L. Harrison, orphan of John. There are many missing pieces to this puzzle. I also am not entirely sure that Mary Ann Higgs was the wife of the Joseph Edwards who died in Halifax Co NC. Richard Suite witnessed his will and she may have been his daughter. These families were all intermarried and close. Unfortunately, Richard died in 1801 and his will doesn't name any of his children-- only mentions his wife Rebecca (was spelled differently) and to take care of his mother and sister who were still living. Who were they? I am going to try to get up to the NC Archives to get more information. I sent for Richard's will and estate, but the will doesn't name chldren and the estate records were weird and I don't think the ones they sent me match the Richard who died 1801. But I am keeping an open mind on the Joseph who died in Halifax for now. It is very possible she was Higgs, but the truth is we really don't know either way. Bonnie Treon
