Son-in-law Thomas Edwards 1/3 my mill until my son, John reaches age 21. Wife, Sarah Edwards "Wednesday's Project", "Higgins Purchase" & "Edwards Backland with Addition" Granddau.: Sarah Dent Grandson: Elkanah Edwards Exec is wife, Sarah Edwards Witn: Benjamin Edwards, Benjamin Suit, George Dent Now some say that he first married Elizabeth Carter then Sarah Reeves. Elizabeth Turner Edwards, dau. of John Edwards Sr (d.1784). & Sarah Reeves. Elizabeth Turner Edwards 1st husband, Thomas Edwards died 1806 in Wash. Co., Ky. Thomas Edwards m. first, Elizabeth Turner Edwards (and I have her mother as Elizabeth Carter--the first wife) and second, Elizabeth Chappelear, dau. of James Chappelear and Elizabeth Dent. The will of Nathan Chappelear (unmarried brother of Elizabeth) dated 10/25/1807 devised part of his estate to his sister, Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Thomas Edwards. Linda Reno Will of Sarah Carter, 11/23/1733-8/3/1757, SMC. Daughter: Mary Cartwright, "Mere Chance", a negro girl named Priscilla and a negro woman named Jane. If Jane should bear any children to be divided equally between my three loving children--Mary, Matthew, and Elizabeth. Son: Matthew Cartwright a negro named James. Granddaughter: Elizabeth Herbert, a negro boy. Son-in-law John Edwards a negro boy named Thomas to his heirs begotten of my daughter, Elizabeth. Sister: Elizabeth Burroughs to live on "Mere Chance". Exec: Mary Cartwright. Wit: John Burroughs, Lawrence Lant, John Herbert. I have no proof that he married Sarah Reeves so I begain looking for some. The probelm I run into is the 2 land tracts, Wednesdays Project and Higgs His Purchase (Higgins Purchase is a spelling error in the will abstract), both of which were Patented by John Higgs, in 1734 and 1744 respectively, and are located on Lot 8 in Chaptico Manor. How did he come to own these 2 tracts? Could Sarah, his 2nd wife really be Sarah Higgs, daughter of Zachariah Higgs, son of John? Then I found this: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/EDWARDS/1998-10/0907433280 This post says that Elizabeth Carter married John Edwards (b. 1716) son of William Edwards, Jr, in 1738. So, have I made a mistake and have the wrong John Edwards married first to Elizabeth Carter and 2nd to Sarah Reeves and the John Edwards I am looking at was really married to Sarah Higgs? Appreciate any insight and help in straighting out the John Edwards folks. Randy

    1. [MDSTMARY] Question about Sarah Burrough's daughter Elizabeth Cartwright vs. Carter?
    2. I had in my FTM that Sarah Burroughs married John Cartwright. Did she also m. a Mr. Carter or is her name possibly written wrong on her will? If so, perhaps John Edwards wife was possibly really named Elizabeth Cartwright. Maybe I wrote it down wrong, but I had John Cartwright as dying between 1708-1709 so it is possible she remarried. But I still wonder if she still wasn't Wid. Cartwright?? If Sarah also remarried to a man named Carter--do you know who so I can correct my FTM stuff? 1. Re: [MDSTMARY] John Edwards (d. bef. 1784)

    3. Hi Folks, Sorry for the confusion. When I found that old posting in the Achieves, I was questioning my own data for Sarah Carter who married John Edwards (d. 1761). The interesting thing was the link to the Edwards Newsletter, vol. 11, where the article says that John Edwards (b. 1716 d. 1761) was the son of William Edwards, Jr. While this William did have a son named John, I do not believe they are the same. But the article does sound pretty convincing. I will leave that to the Edwards researchers. Now, back to the reason I am looking at the John Edwards (d. 1784). His father, Joseph Edwards, Sr. (d. 1746) left him a tract of land called "Edwards Backland". In the will of John Edwards (d. 1784) he leaves this tract to his wife, Sarah, along with 2 others, Wednesdays Project and Higgs His Purchase. Since these 2 tracts are not mentioned in his fathers will, I assume he aquired them some other way. I believe that John Edwards (d. 1784) married Sarah Higgs, dau. of Samuel Higgs, Sr. (d. 1758). His brother, Joseph Jr., married Mary Ann Higgs, Sarah's sister, it is not uncommon that 2 brothers married sisters. Joseph Jr. moved to NC where he died. These 2 tracts were patented to John Higgs in 1734 and 1744 respectively and were next to each other. I believe that this is the John Higgs (b. 1706) who was the father of Zachariah and the brother of Samuel Sr. (d. 1758) Zachariah packed up his family and moved to NC where many of his children married and died. So, when his father died (aft. 1768), only Samuel Jr. and some of his sisters along with his brother Jonathan were still in the county. The best I can tell, is that Samuel Jr was living on lot 20, Chaptico Manor. His sister Elizabeth was living on lot 22. The 2 tracts of land in question were part of lot 8. Peter Dent purchased these properties from John Edwards, the son, on 11 Jan 1806. So, is Sarah Higgs be the wife of John Edwards (d. 1784)? Anyone have any thoghts on this?
