Bonnie, Does he have any documentation to back up these claims? **EMAIL from 2008 email to Bonnie from Vann: "Bonnie.... John LOCKE and his wife, Sarah were the first to move to Halifax County. Pension requests showed that they were in Halifax by Feb 3, 1767, when they purchased land. There were no census records back that far. The other Lockes followed shortly afterward, including John's parents, James Hulse and Susannah GREEN, and his brother James, with his wife, Susanna HALL, and their entire family. The only member of the James HULSE LOCKE family that stayed behind in SMC was son William. James Lock lived on land that was originally purchased by Henry GREEN, who was most likely Susannah's father, who had preceeded them to Halifax County. John LOCK died in Halifax in May, 1789" Now I love pork, but I'm not buying any pig in a poke. I did have that. I found another email that says his wife was Susannah Green. I had the other information I think from one of the newsletters?? Vann did send me an email in 2008 and for some reason I never corrected it in my FTM. Thank you so much for correcting the information so I can fix it. I truly appreciate your help. ---- **EMAIL from 2008 email to Bonnie from Vann: "Bonnie.... John LOCKE and his wife, Sarah were the first to move to Halifax County. Unfortunately--I am now confused more than ever because this email from Vann says that James Hulse Locke's son, William Locke, stayed in Maryland, but the other information I was given says that the children of William Locke and Eleanor are those who married in Granville. So now I am REALLY confused!! If William Locke, s/o James Hulse Locke, Sr., stayed in MD, then which WILLIAM LOCKE is father of those children? Perhaps he came later to NC? http://www.heirsandroots.com/MyFamilies/Lock.htm is the site with the will of William Locke of Granville Co. NC. Maybe he s/o of James Locke, Jr. who also had a son named William?? He was b.abt 1765. But again, the information is conflicting. I had that this William moved with his brother Josias to Chester SC. Meverell, I had a son named William Locke, b.aft. .1745 that I have no information on. I have Meverell, I's wife as possibly Elisabeth Edwards. Some of the Edwards family did go to Halifax Co. with the Lockes. Now, I wish I knew which Wm. Locke this was!!! I also found this other information about the family online: Hal 1209=15-162 John Lock planter of Hal to Peter Daniel carpenter same 4 May 1784, £12, 4a jng Lock, Drake's old line. wit Hardy Wheeless, James Baker, Sion Daniel. recd May 1784. http://home.comcast.net/~p.a.miller/genealogy/docs/danieledgehalifnashwilson /index.htm Hal 1212=15-166 Peter (x) Daniel carpenter of Hal to John Lock planter same 4 May 1784, £12, 4a jng Drake's old line, sd Lock's old line. wit Hardy Wheeless, Sion Daniel, James Baker. recd May 1784. Linda, The email says there are Pension records that show when they purchased land. I will see what I can find. I had the information from the newsletters and then the information from that email. Let me see what I can find to prove or disprove it. Thanks again for pointing that discrepancy out to me so I could fix it.
