Norma (or anyone) has your research included the Spalding family? I just ran across an inventory of James Branson died 1828 and his Executor is Benedict Spalding. I also found in an index that Benedict Spalding died around March 1832 with executors Alethea and Joseph. This also involved the Orphan's Court. I went back and looked at the will. Which is indexed as Feb 18, 1689 but clearly was added to the book in 1686. Proved April 26, 1686. He has 3 children: Robert, Herbert and Hanna Thomas. Although when he devises a cow named Mouse to his daughter he uses her middle name "Hannor Fadaro". When he devises 100 pds tobacco to his son he calls him Henry. Let me clarify that....the SCRIBE did. Between writing 1689 when it was 1686. On a previous will writing 1685/86.... I'd say the scribe might have some problems. Robert said he wanted all 3 of his children to live with "their" Mother till age 21 or Hanna married. Making all 3 Abigail's children and under 21. The parents of Charles Martin remain a mystery to me. I don't know his father's name, but his mother's name was Jane (I don't know her maiden name). Jane married second, Philip Cusic 15 Jun 1803. Jane made a will in 1837 naming her son Charles Martin as her executor. Charles Martin married first, Maria Thompson (as you said) June 5, 1828. Maria died between 1845-1850. Charles Martin married second, Elizabeth Thompson May 30, 1852. I believe that Maria Thompson and Elizabeth Thompson were sisters and the children of James Thompson and Winifred Drury who were married December 23, 1805 at St. Francis Xavier RCC. In 1840 Charles Martin was named trustee for James Thompson, insolvent debtor. Their brother was John B. Thompson who made a will in 1854. When it was probated in 1856, it was noted that "Elizabeth Martin, the only sister of the deceased, did not object to the probate." Descendants of Charles Martin Generation No. 1 1. Norma, I'll keep an eye out for your Robert and Herbert. Here is something curious. According to what I'm looking at Thomas Diniard wrote his will in 1659 talking only about Henry. That seems reasonable if Abigail was his relation and she was Robert's 2nd wife and only Mother of his younger children. In Robert's 1684 will he mentions first his daughter and then Robert who will inherit at 21 yrs. That makes Robert born after 1663. If the "other children" Herbert and Hannah are by Abigail and presumably younger than they didn't exist in 1659 when Thomas Diniard wrote his will. This record has Henery instead of Herbert: Robert Thomas 9.217 A SM Feb 22 1686 Legatees: Henery Thomas (son). Executrix: Abigall Lewis, wife of Henry Lewis. There is a 1695 record of the Distribution to Robert Thomas and Joanna Thomas. If that means Robert turned 21 he would have been born in 1674. I know there were 2 Thomas Thomas' in St Maty's Co during this period. Right now I show your Thomas Thomas below as father to my Robert Thomas per the will below, but Robert is not mentioned in the will of your Thomas Thomas: Diniard, Thomas, St. Mary's Co., 1st Nov., 1659; 28th Dec., 1659. I see a lot of inaccurate information on the net regarding this so I thought I'd share. In 1671 Thomas left Bachelor's Rest, a 500 acre parcel, divided between his son William (d 1685) and equally between his daughters Mary, Grace and Elizabeth William ended up with about 200 acres which went to daughter Sarah (130 acres) and an unborn child. Edward Field's will of 1724 identified John Spalding as "son". Edward left 60 acres of Bachelor's Rest to his son Edward. A record online says that on 7 June 1711 John Spalding and Thomas Spalding bought 100 a of Batchelor's Rest from "Edwin Field and wife" Sometime before 1741 John Branson born 1683 came into possession of 36 acres of Bachelor's Rest. His wife's name was Sarah. This would indicate that perhaps Branson married Sarah Thomas. Remaining 300 acres..... June 11 1703 Grace Arthur wrote her will. She said under her free will and with the consent of her brother in law Thomas David and his wife Mary (her sister) she was willing 300 of the 500 acres of Bachelor's Rest to her sons William and Richard Breyer. She also had daughters Mary and Grace. None of the children were of age. Grace was not yet 16.
