    1. Re: [MDSTMARY] would someone please look up the Will or estate settlement for John Shanks
    2. Linda Reno
    3. I'm not sure what you want Mike. John and Mary Morris were the parents of Ann "Nancy" Morris who was the first wife of Peter Gough and the mother of Alexander S. Gough. That's the assumption anyway. A marriage license was issued to Peter Gough and Nancy Shanks on 1/17/1802. There is no mention of her in her father's will, but John Morris had a daughter named Ann born April 29, 1776. Ann or Nancy must have died prior to 1810 as there is no female in the home of Peter Gough at that time. 1810, SMC, Peter Gough: 1M -10; 1M 10-15; 1M 26-44; 7 slaves. Ann was the mother of Alexander S. Gough, son of Peter Gough who was deceased prior to his father's will, but was married and had a daughter. Peter Gough's will dated April 10, 1842 devised to his granddaughter, "Ellen Gough, daughter of my late son Alexander S. Gough, who now resides with her mother Mrs. Maria Gough in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, $2,000 with interest thereon from the time of my death until she arrives at the age of 18 at which time it is to paid to her. I appoint my son, Dixon Gough as trustee for my granddaughter. He is to pay to her mother (as her guardian) the interest on an annual or semiannual basis the interest accrued which is to be used to assist in her education and support. This legacy is given as a flat bar to any claim which may be set up by the heirs of my deceased son against my estate for legacies left to him by either his grandmother, Mrs. Ann Gough or his aunt, Cecelia Gough in both of whose wills I was Executor. If my granddaughter dies without issue, the money devised to her is to be equally divided between my daughter, Ellen Gough and my son, Dixon Gough." I found Ellen Gough today. 1850, Allegheny City, Allegheny Co., PA: Goodwin Meade, 36, pilot, b. PA; Harriett Meade, 28, b. VA; Ellen Gough, 14, b. VA; Rebecca Sterrit, 33, b. PA; Jane McGaghan, 33, b. PA. No record after this. I also think I found the marriage record of Alexander S. Gough. There's a record for a marriage between Alexander Gough and Maria Borden in Ohio Co., VA on November 4, 1834. If we assume that the full name of Alexander S. Gough was Alexander Shanks Gough that leads me to Alexander Shanks, son of Joseph Shanks. This makes we wonder if Peter Gough didn't marry a daughter of Alexander Shanks. No proof, just thoughts. 1. Re: [MDSTMARY] [VAFAIRFA] Richard Nevitt of St. Mary's Co. MD and Stafford Co. VA
    2. Charles Williams
    3. Ms. Johanson, My recollection is that we corresponded about Nevitt several years ago. My ancestor George Williams (?-1794) had several descendants with Nevitt as a middle name. His daughter Elizabeth Williams who married Thomas McCarty. Intermarriage also with Gabriel Adams line in subsequent generations. Today is the first day having moved into a new house, and everything -- not just genealogical records -- is in boxes, even those records I've been modern enough to put on CDs. Not all the links come readily to memory (i.e., which children/grandchildren of George bore the middle name Nevitt)) , nor are they stored on this laptop. This an intriguing clue, however, including the faint possibility that "Woolams" might have been a phonetic variant of Williams, from that era of creative spelling (?). It will be a few weeks before I look at this in earnest, but thank you for the lead and let's correspond. Ann Joy was deceased by 1840 as James Gatton m. second, Susanna Spalding, 3/16/1840 and James Gatton was deceased prior to 1850. In 1850, James I. 1. [MDSTMARY] St. Richard's
    2. Would someone tell me, please, where the Manor House of St. Richard's is?? I have a plate recently given to me by a dear friend which depicts this house, and on the back it reads, "This house, which is structurally unchanged, was built at the end of the 17th century on the 1000 acres on the Patuxent River patented Dec. 6, 1640 to Richard Gardiner, Gent., by Lord Baltimore."? I'm descended from this Richard Gardiner and would like to visit the house.? Is it open to the public and are we allowed to take pictures?? We'll be home in October and hoped to be able to visit the house. Thank you! Mur Hiltenbrand Colorado

    1. [MDSTMARY] Richard Nevitt of St. Mary's Co. MD and Stafford Co. VA
    2. Susan Johanson
    3. I was looking at Mike Marshall's wonderful Rootsweb worldconnect site and found an interesting document from Stafford Co. VA about Richard and John Nevitt, sons of immigrant Richard Nevitt of St. Mary's Co. MD. It looks as if his son Richard died in Stafford Co. in northern VA. I wonder if he left children there or does this document mean that he had no children because he left some property to his brother John. > STAFFORD COUNTY VA DEED & WILL BOOK 1699 - 1709; THE ANTIENT PRESS pp. > 245-247 At a Court held for Stafford County 8th day of Novemr. 1704 > This Indenture made the 24th day Augt. 1703 between JOHN NEAVET SENR. > of St. Marys County in Province of Maryland Bro. to RICHARD NEAVET > late of Stafford County in Virga. deced, JNO. This couldn't have been the original Richard Nevitt of Stafford Co. VA because he had died by 1704, but he must have been a son or relative. This other early mention of Nevitt in Fairfax Co also in Northern VA. Will of Gabriel Adams of Fairfax Co. VA, > Adams, Gabriel 19 Jan 1749 27 Dec 1750. 1. [MDSTMARY] Drury Sources
    2. donald drury
    3. To Randy Dunavan   Hi Randy, I saw your entry on the web about Robert Drury's Marriage to Mary Clarke and His immigration in 1663 by Edmund Scarborough. My questions are: 1.) What is your source for the marriage to Mary Clarke and which Mary Clarke are you referring to? 2.) I know there were 2 Robert Drurys listed on Scarborough's land application in 1663 as reported in "Cavaliers and Pioneers", but how do you know that the Robert who went to Maryland was one of them? Thanks again for your help. A definitve answer to either of these questions would be a great leap forward in my research. Regards Don
