It has been brought to my attention that Alexander Hamilton could not have married Elizabeth Green. Here are the sources: THE ARK AND THE DOVE ADVENTURERS by George Ely Russell and Donna Valley Russell p. 114, 118 -119 notes that Elizabeth Green is dead by 9 May 1718 According to M.L.H. Kelley "Hamilton Family of Charles County," she is Elizabeth Shercliffe, daughter of William Shercliffe and Mildred Thompson (widow of Wheeler, then later widow of Thomas Green, who she married in 1709). This has also been proven untrue! Hamilton, Lamar MA ALEXANDER HAMILTON OF "SPY PARK": THE FIRST HAMILTONS OF OLD PORTOBACCO (MD.) THE FAMILY IN THE CONTEXT OF HISTORY, LAW AND RELIGION offers here merely as Elizabeth: Irish, Catholic, and of uncertain partenage. see pages 122 -123 Elizabeth (unknown) was named in her husband's will and given right to live at Spy Park for her lifetime if she did not remarry I hope this is of help. Attention Shirley Moller I (Dottie Himes) have been trying for the past hour to pull my sources as to why I have Anastasia Coombs B 1743 Iberville, LA d 8-11-1799 Iberville, LA m. to Joseph Ignatius Hamilton b 1729 Charles Co. MD m bet 1750-1760 d Iberville, LA son of John Zachariah Hamilton and Sarah Stewart ---------------- Shirley .you have that Anastasia m. William Hamilton so Alexander Hamilton of Spye Park and Elizabeth Sheircliffe. I too had at one time that William Hamilton's father, Alexander's wife was Elizabeth Sheircliffe, but I was proven wrong that Alexander m. Elizabeth Zacharia Green as explained below but that is another problem for another time. Re Anastasia m. William Hamilton? I have listed several Sources below that say in Books that William B. Hamilton son of Alexander, died a single man. However, I want to have my records correct, And if I am wrong, I will be most happy to correct it, as the important thing is the correct information. So let me know if you can find any errors that I have in the information below. =================================================================== The Hamilton Family seems to be a confusing family. This is what I have... Descendants of Joseph Ignatius Hamilton, 226-2-1-1 1 Joseph Ignatius HAMILTON, 226-2-1-1 b: 1729 Charles Co., MD d: Iberville, LA .. +Anastasia Coomes COOMBES b: 1743 Iberville, LA m: Bet. 1750 - 1760 d: 11 Aug 1799 Iberville, LA Father: Thomas Coombes Mother: Elizabeth Wharton, 1W Source above for Jos. I. Hamilton :St. Mary's Families Migration from MD 1780-1820. SHIRLEY----I just noticed something that may help all of us to solve this problem Re William Hamilton and Anastasia..Coombes?...... You have that Anastasia died in Charles Co. and must have died between Jan 15, 1771 and June 20, 1771 ..abt the time that William Hamilton made his will. Maybe we are talking about two different Anastasia Coombes.....as records show the Anastasia Coombs above d Aug 11, 1799 in Iberville, LA. OR possibly two different William Hamiltons. The following are some of the sources that I found...and hope it will help. World Connect Project - Rootsweb, World Connect Project - Rootsweb, World Connect Project - Rootsweb, Noah-Scott Family Trees has Joseph Hamilton b. 1729 m. late 1750's Anastasia Coombes b. 1743 d 8-11-1799 in Iberville, LA buried St. Gabriel. Anastasia's Husband- Joseph Hamilton son of John Hamilton and Sarah Stewart and grandson of Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth Zacharia Green. ----------------- Book: Iberville Parish History; pg 147 Joseph Hamilton was b around 1729 in Charles Co. MD. Son of John Hamilton and Sarah Stewart. Joseph's wife, Anastasia Coombs was b in MD, around 1737. She was the daughter of Thomas Coombs and Elizabeth Wharton. She and Joseph were married in the late 1750s or erly 1760s and they had 7 children Theresa Marie Helene Ignatius Barthelemie Anna Marguerite Elizabeth, Adelaide Francoise. An Ohio River Flatboat On the third day of March, 1783, the court was opened at Harrodsburg ; but there being no house large enough at Founding of that place for its accommodation, it adjourned Danville to a chm-^ six miles away. One of its first official acts was to order a log courthouse to be built at some safe place near Crow's Station (about ten miles from near Crow's and a jail also, of " hewed or sawed. [Source: A History of Kentucky by Elizabeth Shelby Kinkead, NEW YORK The Kentucky Encyclopedia by John E. Kleber, Editor , University Press of Kentucky pg 244, CROW'S STATION. Crow's Station was built by John Crow on 1,143 acres of land he claimed while accompanying James Harrod into central Kentucky in 1774. It was one of the crudely fortified places that served as temporary refuges for settlers flooding into Kentucky after the Revolutionary War. Crow's Station was a wooden palisade surrounding a log house and a spring, called the Town Spring when the staton became a part of Danville. The supreme court of the District of Kentucky met briefly at the station while a courthouse was being built in pioneer Danville's town square. Crow's Station fell into disrepair. John Crow disposed of his remaining lands near Danville and took title to some wilderness land on the Green River where one of his slaves murdered him. See Calvin M. Fackler, Early Days in Danville (Louisville, 1941)... Richard C. Brown **************AOL Search: Your one stop for directions, recipes and all other Holiday needs. Search Now. Brief History of Fort Harrod: "A company of thirty men, named below, arrived 6 June 1774 and together became the first permanent white settlement in Kentucky. They were: James Harrod (leader), James Blair, James Brown, John Brown, James Carr, Abraham Chapline, John Clark, John Crawford, Jared Cowan, John Cowan, John CROW, William CROW, Azariah Davis, Patrick Doran, William Fields, William Garrett, Robert Gilbert, James HAMILTON, Elijah Harlan, Silas Harlan, Jacob Lewis, James McCulloch, Samuel Moore, Azor Reese, Jacob and James Sadowsky (Sandusky), Thomas Quirk, Martin Shell, James Wiley, David Williams and John Wilson. They had come from the Monongahela settlement down the Ohio River to the Kentucky River, along the latter about 100 miles. They landed at Harrod's Landing (later Warcick) and then traveled to the Salt River and on to where Harrodsburg now stands. The first settlement was approximately one mile from Salt River and near a large spring. Each man took 1/2 acre lots and ten-acre out-lots. On the south side eight to ten cabins were erected and known as Town Branch. The men drew lots for the cabins and the acreage. On July 8th, Shawnee Indians attacked, killing two men. Dr George Hart was the first physician; others arriving were George Rogers Clark, the Rev. John Lythe (Episcopal). The first women and children were the Thomas Denton, Richard Hogan and Hugh McGary families. In 1776 [sic] Jane COOMES arrived and started a school, and Rev Peter Tinsley, Baptist minister came." Dottie, et al -- Yes, this is the correct family. However, several on Rootsweb have cited Frances Jane's maiden name as Greenleaf, and some report they were married in Baltimore, others say New Jersey. Both locations are highly suspect in my mind. What I'm hoping for is a citation or something where a Greenleaf and a Coomes/Combs are in the same district. I have not found anything that would support the name Greenleaf. Dottie, thanks for trying to help here. Ernie In a message dated 11/9/2008 6:53:48 A.M. Hi Del, I have just started working on these lines so as of right now I don't have information on the Rowland Burham line. I will share with you anything I might find as the research continues. This might take a little while as I am researching both Conway and Eltonhead descendants. :) Marianne Dillow --- On Sun, 11/9/08, DEL HIESTAND <devanhi@yahoo.com> wrote: >From: DEL HIESTAND <devanhi@yahoo.com> Subject: [MDSTMARY] Alice Eltonhead's children by Rowland Burnham? Martha Eltonhead and Edwin Conway are my 9th great grandparents and Martha is a "Gateway Ancestor". She is a sister to william eltonhead of Maryland. My lineage through her goes back to medieval royalty and down to US Presidents which would be my distant cousins. Here is part of the lineage... Martha Eltonhead, is a descendant of..... Ralph de Stafford, 1st Earl of Stafford, Founding knight of the Garter, 1301-1372 Alan La Zouche, 1st Baron Zouche 1267-1314 Roger de Quincy, 2nd Earl of Winchester, crusader, 1200-1264 Saher de Quincy, 1st Earl of Winchester, Magna Carta Surety, 1155-1219 Henry II, king of England 1133-1189 William FitzPatrick, 2nd Earl of Salisbury, -1196 William de Ferrieres, 3rd Earl of Derby, crusader, 1140-1190 William d'Aubigny, 3rd Earl of Arundel, crusader, 1172-1221 Ranulph de Meschines, 1st Earl of Chester, 1055-1128 Robert de Caen, 1st Earl of Gloucester, 1090-1147 Robert de Quency, crusader, -1197 Robert III de Beaumont, 3rd Earl of Leicester, crusader, 1135-1190 Geoffrey V count of Anjou (Plantagent) 1113-1151 Mathilda of Normandy 'Mathgilda the Empress, 1102-1167 Henry I King of England, 1068-1135 Foulques V of Anjou, King of Jerusalem, 1092-1143 William the Conqueror, King of England 1027-1087 Malcolm III Canmore, king of Scots, 1031-1093 St.Margaret of Wessex, 1045-1093 Baudouin V, Count of Flanders 1012-1067 Robert II the Pious, king of France 972-1031 and many more including Alfred the Great and Charlemagne. These lineages are from William Addams Reitwiesner who works with Gary Boyd Roberts on US Presidents and has written books on these lines, etc. This is from Leo van de Pas to myself who is an expert in medieval genealogy... "In my own computer program I can request a list of names of "interesting" descendants of any individual." "I asked for Geoffrey V of Anjou (who is responsible for the term Plantagenet) and found the following USA presidents. I am sure each all of these should have many other medieval royalty for ancestors" "1.George Washington -------Edward III of England, Philippe III of France, Enrique I of Navarre 3.Thomas Jefferson -------Edward III of England, Philippe IV of France, Charles II of Naples, Andras II of Hungary 4.James Madison ------- Henry II of England, Malcolm III Canmore of Scots, Robert II of France 6.John Quincy Adams -------Edward III of England, Philippe III of France, Afonso I of Portugal 9.William Henry Harrison ---------Henry III of England, Alfonso VIII of Castile, Olof III of Sweden 12.Zachary Taylor ---------Edward III of England, Baudouin VI-IX of Constantinople, Theodoros Laskaris of Nicea 18.Ulysses S Grant ----------Edward I of England, Louis VIII of France, Llywelyn Fawr of Wales 22-24 Grover Cleveland ---------John of England, Philippe III of France, Stephen de Blois of England 23.Benjamin Harrison ----------Edward I of England, Alfonso IX of Leon, Borziwoy I of Bohemia 27.William Howard Taft ----------Edward III of England, Philippe IV of France, Heinrich III Holy Roman Emperor 26.Theodore Roosevelt -------James I of Scots, Edward III of England, Philippe IV of France 29.Warren Gamaliel Harding --------Henry II of England, Malcolm III Canmore of Scots, Robert II of France 30.Calvin Coolidge ---------Edward III of England, Philippe IV of France, Jaime I of Aragon 31.Herbert Clark Hoover -------John of England, William I of Scots, Henri I of France 32.Franklin Delano Roosevelt --------James II of Scots, Edward III of England, Andras II of Hungary 37.Richard Milhous Nixon --------Henry II of England, Malcolm III Canmore of Scots, Robert II of France 38.Gerald Ford --------Jean de Brienne, King of Jerusalem, Henry III of England, Alfonso IX of Leon 39.James Earl Carter ---------Henry II of England, Malcolm III Canmore of Scots, Robert II of France 41.George Hewrbert Walker Bush 43.George Walker Bush ------Robert II of Scots, Edward III of England, Philippe IV of France 44.Barack Obama -------Henry II of England, Henri I of France, Malcolm III Canmore of Scots, Olof III of Sweden, Alfred the Great, Charlemagne." Hope this helps? With best wishes Leo van de Pas, Canberra, Australia ALL of these US Presidents descend from Henry II, King of England as Martha Eltonhead does also which is my line and others who descend from her from the royal lines given above. Also, this part of my lineage comes from Douglas Richardson who has written "Plantagenet Ancestry 2004" and Magna Carta Ancestry 2005"... HENRY II, King of England, by a mistress, IDA DE TONY. WILLIAM LONGESPÉE, Knt., Earl of Salisbury, married ELA OF SALISBURY. STEPHEN LONGESPÉE, Knt., of King’s Sutton, Northamptonshire, married EMELINE DE RIDELISFORD. ELA LONGESPÉE, married ROGER LA ZOUCHE, Knt., of Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire. ALAN LA ZOUCHE, Knt., Lord Zouche, married ELEANOR DE SEGRAVE. MAUD LA ZOUCHE, married ROBERT DE HOLAND, Knt., 1st Lord Holand. MAUD DE HOLAND, married THOMAS DE SWINNERTON, Knt., 3rd Lord Swinnerton. ROBERT DE SWINNERTON, Knt., 4th Lord Swinnerton, married ELIZABETH DE BEKE. MAUD SWINNERTON, married JOHN SAVAGE, Knt., of Clifton, Cheshire. MARY SAVAGE, married (as his 1st wife) WILLIAM STANLEY, Esq., of Hooton (in Wirral), Cheshire. WILLIAM STANLEY, Esq., of Hooton (in Wirral), Cheshire, Stanley, married ALICE HOGHTON (or HOUGHTON). WILLIAM STANLEY, Knt., of Hooton (in Wirral), Cheshire, married AGNES GROSVENOR. WILLIAM STANLEY, Knt., Hooton (in Wirral), Cheshire, married ANNE HARINGTON. PETER STANLEY, Esq., of Moor Hall (in Aughton), Lancashire, married CECILY TARLETON. ANNE STANLEY, married EDWARD SUTTON, Gent., of Knowsley (in Huyton), Lancashire and Hall House (in Rushton Spencer), Staffordshire. ANNE SUTTON, married RICHARD ELTONHEAD, Gent., of Eltonhead (in Prescot), Lancashire. MARTHA ELTONHEAD, married EDWIN CONWAY, Gent., of Northampton and Lancaster Counties, Virginia. "Since the publication of my two books, I've since found evidence which conclusively proves that Maud de Holand (Gen. 7 above) married Thomas de Swinnerton, Knt. I descend from Elizabeth de Holand, sister of Maud de Holand, so we are distantly related to one another through the Holand family"...... Douglas Richardson. Also... Eltonhead's brother is Edwin Conway, Jr who married Sarah Fleet daughter of Col. Henry Fleet and second to Elizabeth Thompson. Then their son is Col. Edwin Conway III who married Anne Ball daughter of Joseph Ball and Elizabeth Romney. The Conway line plus Alice Eltonhead, that married Henry Corbin, sister to my Martha Eltonhead, leads to this: James Madison was the Fourth President of the United States. His term was from March 1809 to 1817. He is also the cousin of the 12th president, Zachary Taylor. He connects two ways to President George Washington: Edwin Conway (James' first cousin twice removed) married Ann Ball (half sister) of Mary Ball Washington, Mother of President George Washington. Also: Colonel Francis Thornton III (James' first cousin twice removed) married Francis Gregory, first cousin of President George Washington. Her mother Mildred Washington, is the sister of Augustine Washington. (Georges' Father.) Also, my grandmother Martha Eltonhead that married Edwin Conway, Sr. sister Alice Eltonhead married Henry Corbin which the Lee's of Virginia descends to Richard Henry Lee and Francis Lightfoot Lee, two signers of the Declaration of Independence and Gen. Robert E. Lee among others. I think some of these lines intermarried and moved on to Spotsylvania County, and Orange County, etc. such as an example of Rice Curtis married Martha Thacker and their daughter Martha Curtis married Rev. Henry Pendleton, Sr. to name just one line. Also, here is a record on my next grandmother Eltonhead Conway that married Henry Thacker, Sr. this is besides the other two records of Chicheley and Brocas)...... " These p'sents witnesseth that I Col. John Carter of Rapn River in the County of Lancaster in Virginia Seq for ye Love that I bear towards my niece Eltonhead the Daughter of Edwyn Connaway have given granted and assigned and have given order to be delivered and do by these p'sents give grant assign and deliver unto Edwynn Connaway for ye use of ye said Eltonhead the oldest heifer that I have in ye possession and ye plantation of William Lucas on ye South Side of Rapn River coloured red and a flower de luce on both ears, To have and to hold ye said heifer with all her increase both male and female unto her ye said Eltonhead Connaway her heirs Exers admirs and Assn forever without ye lawful let or disturbance of any pson or psons whatsoever In witness I have hereto set my hand ye 9th day of April al Dom 1656." Signed: John Carter This is just a small amount of genealogy from Martha Eltonhead besides the other Conway and Eltonhead children and siblings of Edwin Conway and Martha Eltonhead. Best wishes, Marianne Dillow

Dear folks, I'm hoping someone can help answer these questions. I have 2 letters from the Maryland Periodical Archives at Georgetown University that document correspondence between Drurys and a George Fenwick. Both are dated 1811. One is from a William Drury who seems to be negotiating to continue as overseer for a plantation in St.Mary's County. The second is from a Clement Drury requesting funds for expenses and material to complete a house on a plantation on the Patuxent River. There was a George Fenwick who owned a plantation called Swamp Island (St. Mary's County) in 1798 but I have not been able to determine if he is the one to whom the letters were addressed. I have assumed up to now that both these letters are to the same George Fenwick and that these two Drury men are either brothers or cousins. So my questions are: Can anyone positively identify this George Fenwick? Can anyone identify either of these Drury men? Can anyone confirm or disprove my assumptions? Thanks in advance for any and all information you can provide. Don Drury
Does anyone have any information on the family of Jesse Burroughs and Ann C. Morgan family, they were married in 1812 in St. Mary's County, Maryland. I would like to know the parents of Ann C. Morgan. Thanks for any help.
