Jerry, MaryAnn well I've been taking a look at all my data - and there are holes no matter which way you go with this whole thing. Rosie, Rose etc - is definitely part of the whole equation and I still don't know who the heck her parents are. I certainly am not convinced they are Paynes. But I've spent most of the last couple of days going over stuff with people and in a nutshell - thanks to a corrected deed - here's what I've ended up with and there are enough corrections, errors etc to make everyone happy and unhappy. First - I am another one who has got to go through her data and double check everything I ever got from Donnelly - that's where the John Barton Miles got started. I can't really blame her. Remember this Deed? .... ****** Deed Book K, pp. 295, 296, Washington County, Kentucky January 24, 1831 John Barton/Bartholomew/Barton Miles & Rose/Rosey his wife to Elexcius Miles "JOHN BARTON MILES and his wife Rose Miles of the County of Washington and State of Kentucky of the one part and Elexcius Miles his son of the same.....Witnesseth that the said is BARTHON MILES and Rose his Wife" To son: ELEXCIUS MILES, for love and consideration and one Dollar in silver in hand. My daughter HENRIETTA MATTINGLY is to have the house where MY SON JOHN now lives and 8 Acres of ground during her widow hood and the small lott of ground where ST. CHARLES CHURCH is included in this deed. Signed: BARTHOLOMEW MILES (mark), ROSEY MILES (mark) ************ What Donnelly missed was a correction about a month later .... Deed Book K, pp. 298-300, Washington County, Kentucky February 8, 1831 Barton E. Miles to Elexius Miles ".<snip>.whereas the said BARTON E. MILES and ROSI his wife did on the 28th day of January 1831..convey to the said ELEXIUS MILES a certain tract...the said BARTON E. MILES is mis-named JOHN BARTON MILES and EL. BARTHOLOMEW MILES..<snip> So we end up with Barton E. married to Rosie (last name unknown). He would be the father of Henrietta married to Charles Fowler Mattingly. As for Mary Ann Miles married to Benedict Drury - According to Judith Burgher's notes "Bartholomew" gave his permission for that marriage 22 Jan 1823. She never found out who Bartholomew was. There might be one clue .... ********** Deed Book J, p. 271. Washington County, Kentucky May 22, 1828 Bartholomew Miles to Rev. Benedict Joseph Flagett of Nelson Co., KY To: Benedict Joseph Flagett 1 1/2 Acres to include brick church to be built & called ST. CHARLES. Signed: BARTHOLOMEW MILES. Were Bartholomew and Barton one and the same person? I'm not sure but it certainly seems possible in that Barton is buried at St. Charles. If that is the case, it does not explain why Benedict Drury made reference to a father in law in Union County. I am still going through and trying to straighten out kids - but I think this might be the main line. It's late but perhaps this will give everyone food for thought. I'm going to be moving people around my database in my sleep. Cheers, Jackie Jerry L. Clark wrote: > Jackie, > > You stated that 4. Mary Ann MILES b. abt 1805. m. to Benedict Drury. Patty, Wondering if.. in your Anderson line there is a Benedict Anderson. (b about 1768) He is found in Montgomery Co. Dora Aline Anderson was the daughter of John Anderson and Adele Lyon. John Anderson d. 1916-1920 and Adele m. second, Roland Eugene Dyson. Adele d. 1974. John Anderson was the son of William Henry Harrison Anderson and Mary Cornelia Raley. William Henry Harrison Anderson was the son of Henry Anderson, Jr. and Mary A. Elizabeth Beaven. I agree with you that James Norman Thompson married Mary Elsie Thompson, daughter of John Levi and Agnes Jenkins. I didn't realize that George Thompson wasn't Druscilla's son. But then I didn't have the marriage to Mary Melvina Hill before you mentioned it. George married Dora Aline Anderson Nov 24, 1927. I believe her father to be John Anderson. I am trying to find proof of his father. I believe it could have been William Anderson (1840-1892) married to Mary Cornelia Raley but I haven't been able to find proof yet. I looked at your info in this email on Anderson's but unfortunately, I don't see any names I recognize. I do believe that Henry Anderson (born about 1799-1800) was likely born in Charles county and then moved to PG and St Mary's. His wife Mary A. Elizabeth Beavin was from PG county. But this family I believe lived between what is called today Ryceville and Thompson's Corner. Wish I had more to offer but maybe someone has additional info on the Anderson family that might help put these pieces together. Any help would be most welcome. I'm presuming this is the marriage: James Norman Thompson, 22, single m. Mary Elsie Thompson, 17, single, (not related) 6/20/1922 at Chaptico by Charles F. Bridges, S.J. (SMC Marriages, 1915-1940 by Dick Nelson). I have two Mary Elsie Thompsons, both b. 1905, but again I'm presuming this one was the daughter of John Levi Thompson and Agnes Alverta Jenkins? George Thompson wasn't Druscilla's son. He was by the first marriage to Mary Melvina Hill. My Andersons are more than a bit murky. Jane Anderson, b. 1825, was a granddaughter of Joseph Anderson who m. first, Henrietta _____ (maybe). Her parents may have been Thomas Anderson (son of Joseph) and Elizabeth "Lettie" Heard or of Alexander Anderson (another son of Joseph) and his wife, Roseanna Wilkinson. I list her under Thomas, but that could easily be wrong. Joseph Anderson's second wife was Jane Hazel, widow of James Crooke. Jane married James Rock, Jr. in 1839. She does not appear to have had any children. John Curry and wife Jane sold property to George W.L. Buckler 11/12/1854 for $25 which as identified as estate of Joseph Anderson and Jane Rock, deceased. Jane and John were listed as heirs at law or devisees of Joseph Anderson and Jane Rock. Jane Anderson was one of the witnesses to the will of Jane (Hazel) Rock in 1848 and she was living with Jane in 1850. Joseph Anderson was probably from Charles County. In 1790 and 1800 he was living in Charles County. He was in St. Mary's County by 1808 and then listed on the 1810 and 1820 censuses of St. Mary's County. He died, intestate, by August 30, 1827. Report on the Andersons follows. If anyone can offer any help on this bunch, it sure would be appreciated. You'll note that several of the children moved to KY. Linda Reno Descendants of Joseph Anderson Generation No. 1 1. JOSEPH1 ANDERSON was born Bet. 1766 - 1770 in St. Mary's Co., MD, and died Bef. 30 Aug 1827 in St. Mary's Co., MD. Looking at the birth date of Saran Howard as 1827.. and John Barton Miles' as 1775 There is a generation missing. Or am I confused? This is another John Miles ? etc MARRIAGE, BOND & CONSENT BOOK OF NELSON CO., KY 1801-1816, P 102 "Miles, John & Howard, Sarah, Bond: 8 Feb 1802, Married : 23 Dec 1802 Signed bond: John Johnson Both over 21 Married by S. T. Badin, from Marriage Register." The above John Johnson is probably the John son of Leonard Johnson etc. my comment. Mary Ann Shoemaker Jerry L. Jackie, You stated that 4. Mary Ann MILES b. abt 1805. m. to Benedict Drury. Their marriage was proved by the signature of her father. Can you show me that marriage? We actually need to locate a will of John Barton MILES to prove who his children were. I have made some changes to my data. I now have John Bartholomew "Barton" Miles as the one who married Sarah HOWARD, and Rose Ann ? I can't back up that she was Rose Ann PAYNE- if anyone has proof let me know, but not sure where I got that info. I have placed Henrietta Miles who married Charles Fowler Mattingly, and her brother Elexius Miles who married Sarah B. THOMPSON 13 Jan 1830 , Washington, Kentucky, and a John Miles with no info. Under John Barton MILES. Now as far as Barton Elexius MILES son of Henry MILES and Eleanor PIDGEON, I have removed both of his wives, I now have no known wife. I think people including myself have got the children of Barton Elexius MILES confused with the children of John Barton MILES. Now as far as Mary Ann MILES b. abt 1805. m. to Benedict Drury. I am very hesitant to place her under John Barton MILES, until we determine where and When John Barton MILES died. The reason is, Benedict DRURY moved to Union County, KY his will was transcribed by Judith BURGER. In will of Benedict DRURY he states that his Father in Law ? MILES was of Union County, KY. If John Barton MILES died in Marion County, KY that rules him out as being the father of Mary Ann MILES who married Benedict DRURY. If her marriage record indicates that her father was a John Barton MILES then apparently John Barton MILES was in Union County, KY not Marion County, KY. Will Of Benedict W. Drury Signed April 09, 1844 In the name of God Amen I Benedict W. Drury being weak in body but sound mind and of disposing memory make this my last will and testament ((Viz)) 1st It is my great wish and desire that Benedict I Spalding should become my executor. 2nd I also wish all my just debts be paid, and if my perishable property be insufficient to pay my debts, and those who I am owing should be unwilling to wait until the renting of my land should meet their demands, I then wish my executor to sell either public or privately which he may think best, my land, after paying the balance of said debts, I wish the residue of that money (for which the land may bring) to be used in the raising and education of my children so far as my executor may think necessary, it is also my wish that the Court Un Co appoint Benedict I. Is there a will or death info concerning a Barton Elexius MILES or a John Barton MILES who died before 26 Feb 1823 in Washington Co., KY. ? Or either dead by 4 MAY 1845 in Washington Co, KY?
Jackie, Ok. Are we saying that John Barton MILES married Rose Ann PAYNE and Sarah HOWARD? Then who did Barton Elexius MILES marry? Is everyone confusing these two men and their children? I guess I need more info. On Barton Elexius MILES. I had Barton Elexius MILES and Rose Ann PAYNE were the parents of Henrietta MILES who married Charles Fowler MATTINGLY. Henrietta MILES also has a Brother Elexius MILES. I do not think Barton Elexius MILES is John Barton MILES- two different people. I also don't think Sarah HOWARD married Barton ELEXIOUS MILES. Sarah HOWARD married a John MILES. I see no proof yet that shows a JOHN Barton MILES married to a Sarah HOWARD. Unless we have another Sarah HOWARD married to some other ? MILES. I also don't think Barton Elexius MILES is John Barton Elexius MILES. We are confusing Barton Elexius MILES with John Barton MILES. Barton Elexius MILES is a son of Henry Miles and Eleanor PIDGEON John Barton MILES is a son of Philip MILES and Eleanor O'BRYAN. Unless my data is all messed up. Which it appears to be. -----Original Message----- From: mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jackie King Sent: Tuesday, December 09, 2008 5:00 PM To: mdstmary@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MDSTMARY] John Miles & Sally Howard Jerry - Dodd, Jordan. /Kentucky Marriages, 1802-1850/ [database on-line]. Thanks Linda for the info. After posting, I found that listing of Alex Rennie family in Piscataway. It does appear that Grafton and Grover were twins (same age and those names). That is interesting that you mention William F. Rennoe. I just recently transcribed stones of his family cemetery. Although I am related to the Thompson's of Thompson's Corner, I don't believe my Thompson's and James Henry Thompson are related--at least as far as we can tell. They are close by to my family and there are some marriages between the families. George, James Henry and Drucilla's son married an Anderson who is related. Also, Norman Thompson married a Thompson who is related, and so it goes. It is of interest that you mention your Jane Anderson who married John Curry. Do you know what Anderson family she is from? My Anderson's go back to Henry Anderson and Elizabeth Beavin but I don't have anything on Jane Anderson. Henry lived in PG, Charles and St Mary's Counties. The Thompson Rennoe connection appeared that sisters were marrying brothers. I think this information proves that was true. Thanks for sharing. Ok, The Sarah Howard born 20 Jan 1827 , Marion, Kentucky daughter of John Howard and Elizabeth Edelin can't possibly be the one who married John Barton MILES. Not if she was born 1827 and married in 1802. And we don't even know if this was John Barton MILES, he gives no middle name. So far I haven't been able to connect the Rennoe family of Charles County to the Reno family of Virginia. Grafton and Grover Rennoe are undoubtedly descendants of William F. Rennoe who first appears in Charles County on March 8, 1826 when he bought "The Enlargement" in Durham Parish from Joseph Smoot. Here's the family in 1910: 1910, Piscataway, PG Co., MD: Alex Rennie 72, m. 23 years, farmer Emma Rennie 58, wife Charles Rennie 23, son, farm lab. George Rennie 18, son, farm lab. Harvey Rennie 15, son, farm lab. Grafton Rennie 13 Grover Rennie 13 Walter Rennie 12 Andrew Rennie 10 (All MD/MD/MD) Sorry I can't be of much help on this, but it is very ironic as their mother, Druscilla Curry (her full name was Catherine Druscilla Dorsey Curry) was a sister of my ancestor, Joseph Henry Curry (children of John Curry and Jane Anderson). Her husband, James Henry Thompson was married first to Clarissa Melvina Hill, daughter of William D. Hill and Mary Ann "Nancy" Bleathen and granddaughter of Henry Hill and Margaret Davis (Margaret Davis was a sister to my ancestor, Rebecca Davis who m. James Burroughs). Are you connected?
