    1. [MDSTMARY] Mattingly Settlement Cemetery, OHIO
    2. David Roberts
    3. Here is an article that appeared in the Winter 2008-2009 "Generator." I plan to do another on the ancestry of William Mattingly. And another on a few of the early Mattingly women who married & became Mrs. X - them & their descendants buried at this cemetery. Again, I want to thank Lance Lynch for photographing the stones & posting them to the www.findagrave.com site. David David Roberts Editor, "Generator," SMCGS Subject: Generator :: Mattingly Settlement Cemetery Mattingly Settlement Cemetery Muskingum County, Ohio We published an article about William Mattingly {1784-1857} and the Catholic church at Mattingly Settlement, Nashport, Ohio, in the Fall 2008 [Generator]. In this issue, we will print a list of all Mattingly burials in that cemetery dated before 1920. These people would all descend from a branch of the Mattingly family that moved from St. Mary's County to the Cumberland, Maryland, area around the time of the American Revolution and then moved on to the new state of Ohio around 1810 and thereafter. Construction began on the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary or, more commonly, St. Mary's Church, in 1856 on land donated by William's nephew, John Mattingly. A cemetery was to be established on this donated Mattingly land, adjacent to the new church then under construction. William died on Holy Thursday 1857 and was the first person buried in the newly established cemetery. We wish to thank Lance Lynch of Nashport, Ohio, for photographing each stone at Mattingly Settlement Cemetery and posting his research and pictures to www.findagrave.com Among this pictures is one of an large and ornate memorial with a cross and an angel. This memorial marks the grave site of Christopher J. Mattingly and family. There were 354 burials listed for this cemetery on findagrave in late October 2008. Of these, 108 were people named Mattingly. Of course, many Mattingly girls married and they and their descendants are buried at this cemetery under different surnames. The last Mattingly burial recorded is 2008, so this listing is quite up-to-date. Mattingly Burials to 1920 Mattingly Settlement Cemetery >> here I cut the list of burials to 1920. see below << Go to www.findagrave.com for the complete listing for this cemetery. 1. [MDSTMARY] SMCGS December Meeting - Dec. 15th, 2009
    2. David Roberts
    3. If you are not yet a member of SMCGS and live close enough to get to Leonardtown & back home at a reasonable hour, you might want to pay us a visit for our Annual Christmas Pot Luck & Gift Exchange. Just make something & bring it along to share. This might be a good time to meet the group. The Winter 2008-2009 "Generator" went into the mail on Monday. Hopefully, it isn't too delayed by the Christmas mail. It featured an 8 page FENWICK genealogy by Pat Obrist. I did a review of "American Resting Place" - an excellent book of the history of cemeteries & burial grounds in the United States over the last 400 years. Bill Mitchell had an article on the 1918 Spanish Flu and other of his "Gathering the Facts" column. We also had a feature on the 200th anniversary of the Bardstown Diocese in Kentucky. I would like to see some folks from the List at our Society's party - to get to know those who I don't know. David David Roberts Editor "Generator" SMCGS ----- Original Message ----- Sent: Thursday, December 11, 2008 10:53 AM Subject: December Meeting - Dec. 15th, 2009 Season's Greetings to all: A reminder that our monthly meeting will be next Monday, Dec. 15th at 7:00 p.m. Garvey Center, Leonardtown, MD. 3. Linda, I have his name as Joseph Norman Thompson. He went by Norman. His obit says Norman Thompson. I don't know what my original source was for Joseph but I do have his son, Joseph Norman Thompson Jr obit and it lists his father as Joseph N. Thompson. His wife's obit doesn't mention him but again lists son as Joseph Norman Jr. Yeah I found those draft registrations as well. I was taking another look to see if I could find him in Baltimore record but so far I haven't found him. But he was at least alive in 1942. Also, Catherine Thompson Rennoe was still alive in March of 1986 when her sister Ruth died. She is the only sibling listed in Ruth's obit. I checked SSDI and found that she died in Dec 1986. 3. First of all I am sorry for the content of the original post.  It was messed up. Got distracted and accidently clicked the send buton while the cat was scratching my leather office chair.  He got the chair good and I responded like a play after a loose ball after a fumble.  Anyway...   Thanks for the responses.   Reason for the request. I was reviewing Webb's list of the "Marland League" and tried to check the wives and lineages of of those he mentions.  It appears this is the Ignatius Bowles Webb pinpointed, the one who  married Catherine Gough.  She was not the only wife Gough in Webb's list.   It's curious, surely someone has worked the lineages of those 60 family Webb lists as the Maryland League? 3. Mike Gough is the person who felt that Catherine Gough was the daughter of Peter Gough and Eleanor Bowles. I added this in my notes: Mike Gough believes that Catherine was the daughter of Peter Gough and Eleanor Bowles. I agree it's a good choice. It means that Catherine and Ignatius were first cousins. He also states that Catherine (Gough) Bowles d. in Union Co., KY 8/20/1828 and she's buried at Sacred Heart RCC, St. Vincent, Union Co., KY. Jerry, I have that John Bowles and Monica Daft (not Wooten) had a son named Ignatius Bowles, b. bef. 1774. Ms. Donnelly incorrectly stated that her surname was Wooten. 3. Thank you. No, I didn't have what you sent and appreciate it. Was it James Norman Thompson or Joseph Norman Thompson? The reason I ask is this record: James Norman Thompson, 22, single m. Mary Elsie Thompson, 17, single, (not related) 6/20/1922 at Chaptico by Charles F. Bridges, S.J. (SMC Marriages, 1915-1940 by Dick Nelson). I did find a little bit more on Sothoron Francis Thompson. The only census I could find him on was in 1900 when he was living with his aunt, Georgeanna (Hill) Goldsmith. Nothing after that except these: WWI Draft Enrollment Cards, 1917-1918 (Ancestry.com): Name: Sothoron Francis Thompson City: Baltimore County: Baltimore (Independent City) State: Maryland Birth Date: 2 Mar 1883 Race: White Residence: 1619 Marshall St., Baltimore Employment: Collector, Mutual Insurance Co. 1. Re: [MDSTMARY] Grafton & Grover Reno - ANDERSON Family

    3. Linda Reno, Yes, this is my family of Anderson's. I have more questions than answers. Do you have any further info on John Anderson who died between 1916-1920. I was told that he drown. I hadn't found a died date but had in my notes that he was likely dead by 1920. I would also be interested in info on William Henry Harrison Anderson. I too have William H. Anderson as son of Henry and Mary Elizabeth but I didn't have his full name. I did have a died date of 1892 but, nothing to prove it. I was going to check the next time I made it to St Mary's to see if there was an obituary on him, but haven't gotten there yet. Would love to have further info on him. William H's sister Sarah is my line. I don't have any information on the family (parents or siblings) of Henry Anderson. Do you know anything about William A. Anderson. I believe he was the son of William Henry Harrison Anderson? I have a little more info on the Thompson's you addressed below but will send by separate email after I review it all. Thanks for this information on the Anderson's. I really appreciate it. 3. I likely have a mistake in my data. I have Ignatius Bowles (son of John Bowles and Monica WOOTEN )as the one who married Catherine GOUGH daughter of Peter GOUGH and Eleanor BOWLES. So need to make sure of which Ignatius BOWLES married Catherine GOUGH. -----Original Message----- From: mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Thomas Jennings Sent: Thursday, December 11, 2008 10:36 AM To: mdstmary@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MDSTMARY] (no subject) Randy, I have her as d/o Peter Gough d.1767 & Eleanor Bowles (source:6/15/2007 lindareno@comcast.net (Linda Reno) Tom Jennings On Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 11:45 AM, James Dunavan <jeep71@att.net> wrote: > Can anyone line this Catherine Gough? > Descendants of Catherine "Caty" GoughGeneration No. 11. > Children of CATHERINE"CATY"1OUGHShe married IGNATIUSBOWLESJanuary 21, 1777 > in St. Francis Xavier, NewTown, MD, son of JOHNBOWLESand SUSANNESMITH.
