    1. [MDSTMARY] Elizabeth Jenkins and Jane Crane
    2. rubyslippers
    3. According to rootsweb online for CC, Elizabeth Jenkins married first John Crane and second John Bateman. Then it has her daughter as Jane Crane married Leonard Branson. Does anyone know if this is correct and have any proof/evidence of this other than her legacy to Leonard's children in her will? Thank you

    3. Hi All,   I found the following reference to a Matilda Drury on the web. Can anyone connect her to anyone? I suspect she may be connected to the Ann Arundle Drurys rather than the St. Mary's crowd but stand ready to be corrected.   If anyone wants the complete three page report that gives additional details about how the tobacco was destroyed and the action that took place there I can send it as a PDF attachment. This part gives the pertinent genealogical details.   Thanks in advance to everyone,   Don Drury   ********************************************* February 9, 1843        The Committe of Claims, to whom was referred the petition of Matilda Drury, report:        That the petitioner represents herself as the widow of Samuel Drury, and the only surviving child of Major Thomas Tillard and the sister of Captain William Smallwood Tillard both of whom are now dead; and, as the legal representative of the latter, she claims compensation for a quantity of tobacco which belonged to said Captain W.S.Tillard, and was destroyed by the British at Tracy's Landing, in the state of Maryland, in the latter part of October 1814. ***************************************************

    3. You still have Joseph Jarboe & Mary Clarke married 6 Oct 1792, Nelson Co., KY. William Jarboe b. 1795, Montgomery Co., MD then staying there to marry. With siblings born in KY in 1790s & more in Frederick Co., MD in 1790s. It is hard for me to believe they moved to KY & back to MD several times before settleing in KY after 1800. I think you have more than one Joseph Jarboe combined. 3. Randy, It appears to me that Joseph Jarboe was married twice. Based on what you sent and some digging around on my own, I've developed the report that follows. Mary Jarboe, daughter of Robert Jarboe and Elizabeth Holton was b. 1772 and married John K. Jackson. I noticed that in the 1800 census of Montgomery Co., MD that Henry Bellwood was living next door to Joseph Jarboe. He was married to Elizabeth Jarboe, dau. of Henry Jarboe and Elizabeth Stiles and his parents were Samuel Bellwood and Frances Stiles. In 1850, I found Samuel Bellwood, b. 1799 in MD living in Breckinridge Co., KY. No idea who Benjamin N. Bellwood may have been. 1850, Breckinridge Co., KY: Samuel Bellwood, 49, farmer, b. 3. I sat down and charted the various lines from Dr Luke Barber and wondered if someone has proof about Edward Barber, son of Edward who married Cibbell. I know that online people have him listed as marrying Sarah Myvert but when I charted it all out based on wills, etc that Edward who died in 1764 and married Sarah came out to be son of Luke and Rebecca and brother to Baptist, Cornelius and Dorothy Greenfield. Edward, brother of Luke (who married Rebecca) must have been mentioned in Luke's 1739 will because I made a note that he must have died after 1739. Has anyone ever found an inventory for him or will? Any proof of children? There is also a Thomas Barber listed on records after 1743 at a time when Thomas, son of Thomas had died that I have no knowledge of so I'm assuming he must be a son of this Edward? Thanks

    3. We are looking for connections or any data for Cordelia Wilson. Here's what we have on her...  ORDELIAA.1ILSONwas born 1819 in Maryland. She married (1) CHARLESWILLIAMJARBOEJuly 22, 1837 in St. Mary's Co., Maryland, son of VERNONJARBOEand MARYHUNT. He was born January 08, 1815 in Baltimore, Md, and died 1850. She married (2) JOSEPHJARBOE, JROctober 06, 1857 in Jackson Co., Mo, son of JOSEPHJARBOEand MARYCLARKE. He was born Bet. 1790 - 1793 in Carrollton Manor, Fredrick Co, MD, and died December 15, 1867 in Kansas City, Jackson, MO. WC     Below is the Jarboe data.  1857  In October Joseph Jarboe, Jr. marries a 2nd time to Cordelia A. Wilson Jarboe, her 2nd marriage as well.  This is an interesting union.  Cordelia was previously married to Charles William Jarboe, born in Baltimore, MD (1815-1850).  They were married in St. Mary’s County Md. in 1837.  What we know of him is detail by Grove. Charles W. Jarboe died of jaundice produced by over smoking cigars according to his wife. Originally, he was apprenticed to a printer, then became a sailor [out of Maryland], then  became a assistant pilot on the water of the Mississippi and Missouri. Then a pilot and chief at $2,000.00 a year.  Leaving his window penniless, like all the rest of the Jarboe'.  Married another Jarboe, Joseph, Jr., of Kansas. Worth at that time one or two hundred thousand Dollars.  Ref: History of Carrollton Manor by William Jarboe Groves   Now Charles William Jarboe’s father was, Vernon M. "Varnal" Jarboe. Varnal a native of Baltimore (1783-1814) was quite of a character and of a rebellious nature. His SMC family moved to Nelson County around 1790, leaving Varnal to his desires.  To coax Vernal to Kentucky Rodolphus Jarboe (1746-1796) , offered his son one third of his final estate to Vernon.   The estate was conditional to Varnal  coming to Kentucky to claim it. The reason of the clause:  Vernon inherited the roving disposition of the family, desire for the seafaring life, which was persistently denied by his father, consequently, Vernon at a young age ran away and embarked as a common sailor, nor was heard of from many years.  Just before the War of 1812 Varnel was  pressed into service the British. His vessel was brought to by a British Man of War, overhauled and some of her men pressed to for service.... Vernon was thus prolonged and when found means of communications with his friends in America, he was transferred to another ship, the usual tract of the British.  Vernon, at length contrived to gain his liberty, but ere he was given up owing to his having gained the reputation of a first class tar*, the British ordered him some position as a warrant officer or like, which he refused.  *(Tar is international nickname for government sailors, because of the custom among old Navy men of giving their work clothes a light coating of tar to waterproof them)   After his imprisonment with the British he entered the merchant marine and became a captain of the Brigantines an fore and Aft Schooners playing between Baltimore and the West India and South America.  After the war of 1812 the merchant marines were no longer safe or profitable and so Vernon united himself with a company of privateers, who under the authority of the US Government began their career of retribution against the British.  Name of the Schooner was the Comet of Baltimore under Capt Boyle.   Vernon was one of the Prize Master 3rd or 4th. (an officer put in charge or command of a captured vessel). The duty was to take care of captured ships and crews that were sailed to a neutral port for plunder.  He became wealthy in this. Lying some 3 miles below Fort McHenry.  Vernon met his death in an accident and fell from a rope between the ship and a small boat.  He never surfaced from the sea, nor his body found. It may of been that the pockets of his over coat was filled with $400.00 in silver which sunk him.   His son refers to Vernon Jarboe as a noble and universally popular man. Back to Charles William Jarboe.  Now Charles brother John Rodolph Jarboe, Sr., (1812-1884) the teacher, had a son Vernon Cook Jarboe, Sr.(1840-1896)  that also lived then died in Kansas City.   *************************************************************************************************************************   Children of JOSEPH7ARBOE, JR(JOSEPHB.6OHNBAPTIST5OHN4OHN3OHN2?1ARBOE/JABOT/GERBER/GERBAUT) was born Bet. 1790 - 1793 in Carrollton Manor, Fredrick Co, MD, and died December 15, 1867 in Kansas City, Jackson, MO. 3. Joseph Jarboe married Mary Clarke, 6 Oct 1792, Nelson Co., KY. It is doubtful their daughter married in Montgomery Co., MD , 29 May 1799. 1850 census Jefferson Co., KY is a Mary Gatton 68 (1782) born in MD. Is this Samuel's widow? Samuel shows 1st in KY in 1800 census. 1840 census Grayson Co., KY is Mary Gatton with 3 sons & 3 daughters. I found several Mary Jarboe(various spellings) but not born in 1782. These were in Catholics of Soutern Maryland. Was she catholic? Then a short overland trip to the Monongahela River & down it to Washington Co., PA where it forms the Ohio River. Then down the Ohio River to the "Falls of the Ohio" near present day Louisville, KY. Some families would stop to rest for months or even years. They had to change means of transport from the tow barges on the Potomac to wagons for overland portion to flat boats for trip on the Monogahela & Ohio rivers. 3. The only possible link I have is for a Susan Jean Gatton who married John Ignatius Raley (B,abt 1869) s/o John Stephen Raley and Jane Ellen Davis. Don't know if this is the same Susan Gatton you list as child #2 but I suppose it could be,   Don Drury --- On Mon, 12/15/08, James Dunavan <jeep71@att.net> wrote: From: James Dunavan <jeep71@att.net> Subject: [MDSTMARY] Samuel Gatton To: "MDSTMARY-L@rootsweb.com" <MDSTMARY-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Monday, December 15, 2008, 4:16 PM Would anyone have any links or data on the Samuel Gatton ?    Would appreciate any data.   SAMUEL1GATTONwas born Bet. 1770 - 1780 in Maryland, and died Abt. 1837 in Nelson County, Kentuckey.  He married MARYJARBOEMay 29, 1799 in Montgomery, Co., Md, daughter of JOSEPHJARBOEand MARYCLARKE.  She was born Aft. 1792 in Fredrick Co, Md, and died in Kentucky.       Children of SAMUELGATTONand MARYJARBOEare: i.JOHNAUGUSTINE2GATTON.                               ii.     SUSANGATTON.                              iii.     SAMUELGATTON, JR..                              iv.     ELIZABETHGATTON.                              v.     MARYEMELINEGATTON.                              vi.     HENRYJ.GATTON.                             vii.     THOMASGATTON.                            viii.     JULIAANNGATTON.                                ix.       MARIAGATTON.  Merry Christmas, Randy or Kat Dunavan      Longview, Texas  903-720-3914 ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to MDSTMARY-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

I had always wondered why he was a member of Van swearinger's pennsylvnia company and not a virginia regiment. However it appears that he married a Sarah peake in washington Pa in 1776 who was from a prince william county virginia family. why they were in pennsylvania is unknown. But I think it is unlikely he was born in Frederick maryland however ther is also a frederick county virginia very close to the maryland border. Robert Moseley applied for Rev War Pension in Ohio Co., KY in Feb. 1819, he gave age as 69. He showed his service was in the Pennslyvania Line. Frederick Co., MD shares a border with PA so perhaps you should be looking there. The pension rolls were official records so I pay attention to them.
