So, are we :) saying she Elizabeth is the dau. of John Chesley? That is certainly what I'm thinking. For some reason, I didn't have the admin. accts. of John Chesley dated 5/9/1768 in which he's named NOK of John Chesley. Also, Richard Pile didn't marry Elizabeth Greenfield, daughter of Truman Greenfield and Elizabeth Parker as she married first, John Cartwright and second, John Hammett. Just found this record and I think this may be the husband of Elizabeth Chesley: 8/18/1755: BOS from George Parker of CC, Gent. to Richard Piles of PG Co., Surgeon. Sd. Piles, by one bond, is bound with sd. George Parker unto James Russell, late of PG Co., merchant on which bond Russell has recovered a judgement in Provincial Ct. Parker sells to Piles Negroes, cattle, etc. (see source), but if Parker indemnifies Piles against Russell, this to be void. (Charles Co. Land Rec., 1752-1756). George Parker was married to Elizabeth Hutchinson. widow of William Pile of PG Co. Elizabeth Hutchinson's sister, Ann Hutchinson was m. to Gabriel Parker III, widower of Elizabeth Ann Greenfield, and he was a brother of Elizabeth Parker, first wife of John Chesley. Too many connections here to ignore. The last record I have of Benjamin is in 1773 when he wit. the will of Thomas Greenfield. Benjamin did receive "Negro Bob." 12/3/1768: Admin. accts. of John Chesley, SMC. Received from: St. Mary's County. Payments to: Samuel Abell, James Gordon & Co., Dr. Edward Johnston, Thomas Campbell Taylor, Col. Benjamin Young, John Emerson, John Hooper Broom, Rebecca Greenfield, Patrick Mahur, Robert Young, Daniel Woodburn, George Davis, Richard Bishoprick, sheriff of Calvert Co., John Rogers, Jeremiah Jordan, Owen Allen. Legatees: Accountant, Benjamin Chesley (received Negro Bob). Exec.: Elizabeth Chesley. (Admin. accts. of the Prerogative Court of Maryland, Libers, 59-66, 1768-1771 by V. L. Skinner, Jr.). NOTE: This record is not on CD #206. The second wife of John Chesley was Elizabeth Williamson, daughter of Rev. James Williamson (d. 1769) and wife, Elizabeth of Calvert County. She was the mother of the rest of the Chesley children. Will of James Williamson, Calvert Co., 3/23/1768-2/17/1769. Wife: Elizabeth. Children: Henry, Charles, James, Basil, Alexander, Compton, and Elizabeth Chesley. Grandchildren: James Williamson (son of Compton); Richard Williamson; Margaret Williamson (dau. of Basil) and Mary Williamson. Exec: Wife, Elizabeth. Wit: Clem Smith, Thomas Bond, Mary Hardesty. (Maryland Calendar of Wills). Will of Elizabeth Chesley, widow, SMC, 12/3/1773-4/4/1785. Son: John Chesley, the gold watch that belonged to his father. Son: Thomas Chesley, 250 pounds sterling at the age of 21. If he dies before that time, to be divided between my children, Alexander Chesley, Elizabeth Chesley, Mary Chesley, Rebecca Chesley, and Ann Chesley. Late Husband: John Chesley did not make provisions for his daughter, Ann Chesley, and his son, Thomas Chesley. I think it is incumbent on me to supply that defect in his will. I, therefore, give my daughter, Ann Chesley, one equal moiety or one half part of the residue and remainder of my estate to be paid to her at the age of 16 or day of marriage. The other one half part of the balance of my estate is to be paid to my son, Thomas Chesley, at the age of 21. Exec., Brother Rev. Mr. Alexander Williamson of Frederick Co., MD. Wit: Charles Somerset Smith, Joseph Noble Baynes, John Perrie. (St. Mary's County, Maryland Wills, 1776-1791 by Linda Reno and Joann Humphries). Mike, My on-line database doesn't reflect this information. I need to update it again. (grin) Have you ever looked at the microfilm to see who was the son called "Chesley" willed Negro Bob in the abstract of John Chesley's will? According to the abstract of John's 3 Dec 1768 accounting, Benjamin actually received Negro Bob. According to the abstract of George's 7 Nov 1751 accounting, Benjamin was age 14. Benjamin was a son of a different wife than the wife Elizabeth in John's will, as he isn't listed as being of John's "six children by my present wife, named John, James, Elizbeth, Mary, Alexander and Rebecca". I don't think George Greenfield's accounting is saying that Elizabeth Pile was his sister-in-law. I think it is saying that she was his half-sister by his mother, i.e. they had the same mother, not father; as did George Greenfield and Benjamin Chesley. I think the Elizabeth who was John's wife when he died was a different Elizabeth than Elizabeth Parker. I looked at the possibility that John Chesley had two daughters "Elizabeth" and therefore two wives "Elizabeth" (or vice versa), and determined that there could have been two of each. I think that I determined that because of the various relationship statements in the docs, there would have had to be two of each for there to be two of either. One wife (Elizabeth Parker) would be the mother of the Greenfield children, Benjamin Chesley, and Elizabeth (Chesley) Pile. She would most likely have been dead by the 9 Nov 1756 will of her mother, Susanna Parrott. The other would be the mother of the "six children by my present wife". Concerning Elizabeth Chesley's Pile husband, while there was an abstract for a "James Bile" who died in Charles County before his 6 Dec 1698 inventory, I still think John Chesley's NOK Richard "Bile" was most likely Elizabeth's husband. I would need to look at the original microfilm of John's inventory to decide, and I can't do that anymore. ----- Original Message ----- From: "mike marshall" <mrmarsha2004@yahoo.com> To: <mdstmary@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 05, 2009 7:46 PM Subject: [MDSTMARY] Elizabeth Pile d/o John Chesley Truman Greenfield's (d1726) wife Elizabeth Parker remarried John Chesley. Linda Reno, Thank you for sending the children of Leonard JOHNSON and Mary HOWARD. It appears though that I have some updating to do. Because you show 3 generations prior that I apparently don't have connected. So can you send me the 3 generations prior also? Descendants of Leonard Johnson Generation No. 1 1. LEONARD4 JOHNSON (JOHN3, JOHN2, WILLIAM1) was born 1747 in St. Mary's Co., MD, and died Bef. 13 May 1801 in St. Mary's Co., MD. He married MARY HOWARD Bef. 1776 in St. Mary's Co., MD, daughter of BENNET HOWARD and ELIZABETH. She was born Bef. 1761 in St. Mary's Co., MD, and died Aft. 1806.
He was the son of John Shercliffe, Jr. and Susanna Wheeler. Linda Reno ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary D.
