    3. Don, The John Bowles who married Monica DAFT was a son of William Bowles and Elizabeth GOUGH But I have no daughter Sarah Bowles under John Bowles who married Monica DAFT Bould/ Boult Mike Gough is the person who felt that Catherine Gough was the daughter of Peter Gough and Eleanor Bowles. I added this in my notes: Mike Gough believes that Catherine was the daughter of Peter Gough and Eleanor Bowles. I agree it's a good choice. It means that Catherine and Ignatius were first cousins. He also states that Catherine (Gough) Bowles d. in Union Co., KY 8/20/1828 and she's buried at Sacred Heart RCC, St. Vincent, Union Co., KY. Jerry, I have that John Bowles and Monica Daft (not Wooten) had a son named Ignatius Bowles, b. bef. 1774. Ms. Donnelly incorrectly stated that her surname was Wooten. Monica Daft was the daughter of Charles Daft, Jr. and wife, Elizabeth (Elizabeth m. second, Isaac Booth, Jr.). 8/4/1731: Admin. accts. of Charles Daft. Distribution to: widow, 1/3. Residue to: Charles Daft, Susanna Daft, Monica Daft. Adm: Isaac Booth and his wife, Elizabeth Booth. Will of Elizabeth Booth, SMC 1/3/1756-2/3/1756. Daughters: Elizabeth Wooten and Mary Booth, all of my personal estate. Daughter: Monica Boalds, 1 shilling sterling. Wit: James Roach, William Combs, James Payne. Elizabeth Booth, dau. of Isaac Booth, Jr. and Elizabeth (widow of Charles Daft) is the one who m. Joseph Wooten. Linda Reno [lindareno@comcast.net]Thu 12/11/2008 2:15 PM

    3. Mike, Was there any particular reason to take this "post-em note" seriously? i.e is he a serious researcher? The norm of the day would be: marriage in bride's parish, christening in home parish or groom's family parish. A quickly arranged (groom's) re-marriage after a (bride's) death in childbirth was also pretty normal. ----- Original Message ----- From: "mike marshall" <mrmarsha2004@yahoo.com> To: <mdstmary@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 14, 2009 10:43 AM Subject: [MDSTMARY] Mary Edelen d/o Richard Edelen Hi List, The following query is for the Mary Edelen that married Giles Blizzard, Robert Thompson, James Smallwood and Alexander Herbert. 3. Mike, Christopher makes a good point. Read the following...... Newman, Harry Wright, Charles County Gentry : a genealogical history of six emigrants, Thomas Dent, John Dent, Richard Edelen, John Hanson, George Newman, Humphrey Warren, all scions of armorial families of old England who settled in Charles County, Maryland, and their descendants showing migrations to the South and West Washington D.C.: The author, 1940, 335 pgs. RICHARD EDELEN, GENT. [1635-1694] Richard Edelen, younger son of Philip and Catherine [Offley] Edelen, was born ca 1635 in Middletsex, England. About 1664 he married Elizabeth ___, and left for Maryland perhaps in the same year. They were in the Province, however, by Feb 1664/5, as proved by the following document: "I Richard Edelen do from me and my heirs assign and make over unto Daniel Jenifer and his heirs all my full rights title and interest of mine and Elizabeth's my wife's right to land for either of our transportation unto this Province as Witness my hand this ninth day of February one thousand six hundred and sixty-four." Witness by [signed] Richard Edelen Edward Savage In 1665 he declared his intentions of returning to England before a session of the Provincial Court. All indications point to the fact that his wife Elizabeth accompanied him and there their first son, Philip, was born. He returned to the Province before the spring of 1669, at which time he established headrights for his wife and son. "6 May 1669. Richard Edelen proved rights to 100 acres of land for Elizabeth his wife and Philip his son proved in Common form". [signed] John Blomfield Children of Richard and Elizabeth Edelen* 1. Philip Edelen, probably d.s.p. 2. Catherine Edelen 3. Richard Edelen married Sarah Hagoe. q. v. 4. Thomas Edelen married Comfort Barnes. q.v. 5. Edward Edelen married Elizabeth Jenkins. q.v. 6. 3. Do you have proof that the John Chunn-Rebecca Barber was the wife of Thomas? ----- Original Message ----- From: "rubyslippers" <rubyslippers@kc.rr.com> To: <mdstmary@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 09, 2009 9:40 AM Subject: Re: [MDSTMARY] Rebecca wife of Thomas Barber Right - that's what I found also but as we know Rebecca Yates married Cornelius not Thomas. Rebecca Barber - wife of Thomas Barber is listed in 1765 as Next of Kin to Joseph Chunn along with Mary and Henry Morris (son of Thomas Morris who died in 1747). In 1726 Joseph Chunn is listed as NOK with John Branson to John Price. A Mary Morris was witness to the will of John Branson who died in 1770 (the one with all the children who I believe is the son of Michael). Henry Morris and Thomas Barber were surety to the estate of John Branson with will dated 1769 (I found a land record indicating he was dead earlier). This John Branson was born October 1683 and youngest son of the immigrant Thomas Branson. Cornelius Barber was one of the witnesses to his will. I believe this John had first wife Ann. John Branson, Ann Branson and Cornelius Barber witnessed Harmon Clarke's will in 1733. In 1729 there was a payment to John Branson from the estate of Frances Clarke. Mary Rose Clarke's (wife to Francis) will in 1738 was witnessed by John Branson. According to what I have read John Clarke had sons John, Robert, Benjamin, Frances and daughter Ann. If John Branson married Ann Clarke, that could explain the above. In my Branson later lines I have Absaloms, Hezekiahs and Zachariah Lyon. I'm trying to piece this all together. I also have long lasting relationships with Yates, Nevill, Hutchinson, Mankin and other lines in St. Mary and Charles Counties. And wherever the Bransons migrated the Brisco family seemed to migrate with them. -----Original Message----- From: mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jerry L. 3. Jerry, No record anywhere of a Thomas Barton Combs. I think this is a mistranscription and the appraiser was actually Thomas Hatton Combs. Plus, Thomas Hatton Combs did have some involvement with the Chesleys. 9/22/1772: Admin. accts. of Thomas Hatton Combs, SMC. Payments to: Exec. of Robert Chesley, Walter Dulany, Esq., Owen Allen, John Allen Thomas, Chas. Goldsborough, Esq. Exec.: Mary Combs.
