I think that the line you are interested in descends from Monica's brother Aloysius. Tom, It is my understanding that my g-g-g-grandmother, Dorothea Catherine Brown BURCH, was the daughter of Nicholas BROWN, as shown in the 1812 marriage record of Dorothea BROWN and Samuel BURCH. I learned that other children of this Nicholas BROWN were: John Barton BROWN, Lewis BROWN Ignatius BROWN, Sarah BROWN WILMOUTH and unknown others. Then a lady suggested that I check out - Distribution of Estate Accounts Washington County Maryland (Index) Vol. 3 1817-1827 February 10, 1826--Distribution of the estate of Benjamin BROWN-- Adm. William C. DOWNY. Barbarba, Lewis, Hanson, Ignatius George WILMOUTH and wife, Samuel BURCH and wife, Margaret MCCLAIN Total: 2,061.51 Vol. 4 1828-1835 May 14, 1832-Distribution of the estate of Benjamin BROWN-Adm. William DRURY, Barton, Lewis, Hanson, Ignatius, George WILLMOUTH and wife, Samuel BURCH and wife, Margaret Mcclain Total: 412.15 This led me to believe that the "unknown others"as listed in the Distribution Record are also siblings of my Dorothea Catherine BROWN BURCH. Other descendants show that Nicholas BROWN, was son of Nicholas BROWN and Appalonia THOMPSON, who had children: Richard, Ignatius, Nicholas, Mary, Monica, Elizabeth, Appolina, and Peter BROWN. I can't find how the Benjamin BROWN, as listed in the Washington Co., MD Estate Accounts, is related to those named as his heirs. In 1792 Jane Nicholls with William Muir witnessed the will of Michael Branson. I've read who Wm Muir is - does anyone know who "Mrs." Jane Nicholls was?

Some years ago there was a discussion regarding the Nelson Co Ky marriage of Ignatius Mattingly to Sarah Fowler. At that time I posted some information from the published marriage bonds and consents, but did not have the originals. Lately I have verified the information from the original loose bond and consent: "This is to sertifie that I gave my free consent to a marreg between my daughter Sarah Fowller and Ignatius Mattingly as witness my hand. Charles Fowler August 20 1789" The bond was dated 22 August 1789 and the two bondmen were Ignatius Mattingly (who made his mark) and Aaron Breedin (signed). On most of these Nelson Co bonds the second bondsman is a near relative, but it does not seem to be the case here though Aaron Breedin/Breden/Braden was also from St. Mary's Co Md having been born there 12 Oct 1766, son of James and Sarah (Hilton) Braden. Aaron was still unmarried, so far as I can tell, in 1789. Perhaps he had been in the same migration with Mattingly? Aaron Braden's mother Sarah (by then the widow of George Newbolt) also came to Kentucky with her three Newbolt children mostly settling in Nelson, Bullitt, or Washington counties. Sarah Newbolt died in 1815 leaving a will in Bullitt Co naming her son, Aaron Braden, and her Newbolt children. I am not usually much help on these questions but I am familiar with Philpot Kentucky. It is in Daviess county about 15 miles south of Owensboro, Kentucky. Daviess county was originally a part of Nelson county. The Owensboro Public Library has a good deal of resources that may assist in the search for Philpott names and records.
