    2. Linda -- Could Ignatius Medcalf, Sr.'s wife be Mary Peake, d/o Edward Peake & Ann Wheatley, born on 4 Apr 1762 in St. Mary's County, Maryland? >From the Peake files --- Mary Peake was the sister to John Kenelm Peake born on 11 Mar 1760 in St. Mary's County, Maryland and died in 1814 in Nelson Co., Ky and also a sister to Francis Peake, Sr. born on 4 Feb 1764 in St. Mary's County, Maryland and died on 1 Mar 1846. In 1793, when Joseph French married Mary Norris, daughter of Rodolph Norris, Francis Peake acted as surety for the license, and he and Ignatius French witnessed the marriage. Ignatius French was later married to Kenelm's daughter Mary Peake in 1809. When Francis Peake married his second wife Bibiana Norris, a daughter of Rodolph and Dorothy Norris, on February 14, 1800, Joseph French and Ignatius Medcalf acted as witnesses. Then in 1805, when Enoch Norris and Ann French were married, Francis Peake stood surety for the license. Kenelm Peake's will was witnessed by Ignatius French and James Medcalf, from whom he rented land. Rodolph Norris' will was witnessed by Ignatius Medcalf and Ignatius French. Both wills were probated on the same day, Feb. 21, 1814. George Medcalf provided surety when Henrietta Peake, widow of Kenelm Peake's son Edward, was married to James Carrico in 1828. 1. [MDSTMARY] PEAK
    2. Jerry L. Clark
    3. Linda, Ernie just may have a good point. The Peak's have a strong presence with these Medcalf's. I have not followed the peaks as well to understand their relationship, but Ernie brings up some good reasoning which maybe stronger than my Nottingham scenario. Ignatius MEDCALF and wife Mary Ann ? went to Hardin County, KY so did Edward Peak son of John Kenelem PEAK Nelson Co Ky Marriage, Bond & Consent, 1817-1832 Edward Peak & Henrietta Boone Bond: 15 Feb 1819 William French signed bond Walter Boone, father of Henrietta filed consent W: William French, Charles Lane (?) Nelson Co Ky Marriages, NCGR James Carrico & Mrs Henrietta Peak Bond: 21 Apr 1828 George Medcalf signed bond Henrietta, widow of Edward Peak The George Medcalf who signed bond was the same George MEDCALF who married Mary ABELL, and he was a brother to Charles MEDCALF who married Sarah Jane CARRICO daughter of James CARRICO. Both George and Charles MEDCALF were sons of John Kenelem MEDCALF and Winifred PAYNE. Edward Peak was born before 1795, and married Henrietta Boone, daughter of Walter Boone, on Feb. 19, 1819, with William French and Charles Lane as witnesses. Edward acted as surety for Henrietta's father, Walter Boone, who filed for guardianship of Joseph Mattingly, orphan of Joseph Mattingly, on Sept. 21, 1818. Edward and Henrietta moved to Hardin County, where they appear in the 1820 census with Edward aged 26 to 45, another male over 45, Henrietta aged 26 to 45, and another female aged10 to 16. Edward Peak was deceased by 1825, when the remaining heirs of Kenelm Peak brought suit against Walter Boone, Charles Peak, and Edward's daughters seeking final disposition of their father's estate. The court papers claim that Edward Peak"died insolvent, not worth one cent", and that "during his lifetime he wasted all of the personal estate " of Kenelm Peak, and "used and converted to the estate to his own use. The known children of Edward and Henrietta Peak as listed in the court documents are Nancy Peak, Mary Ann Peak, and Elizabeth Peak. Another possible child of Edward and Henrietta is John C. Peak, born May 2, 1820. In 1828 Henrietta Boone Peak married James Carrico in Nelson County. Hardin County records show that a Henrietta Peak gave consent for the marriage of John C. Peak to Nancy French on Jan. 29, 1839. -----Original Message----- From: mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of EPERRY4616@aol.com Sent: Tuesday, January 27, 2009 9:12 AM To: mdstmary@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MDSTMARY] Mary Ann NOTTINGHAM Linda -- Could Ignatius Medcalf, Sr.'s wife be Mary Peake, d/o Edward Peake & Ann Wheatley, born on 4 Apr 1762 in St. The 1718 will of Thomas Lorton had sons John, Thomas and Joseph all under 18 years of age. It was witnessed by Alexander Cleveland/Cleland who Thomas had also joined to witness the will of Thomas Jordan in 1716. In St Mary's 1740 estate of William Throne - Adm Jane (who I read was maiden name Ellis) - the Next of Kin listed are Jonathon Throne and John Lorton Then in 1753 PG County Jonathon Thrown estate Adm: Mary and Next of kin is Thomas and Susan Lorton

    3. I agree that on most of the land record transactions in Maryland and in Kentucky she is listed only a Mary, but to be sure we are discussing same Ignatius Medcalf and wife Mary look at these land transactions. 1800, 25 Apr: Igantius and Mary MEDCALF of Nelson Co., KY deed to James QUEEN of the same place, for 125 pounds, 107 1/2 acres of land in Nelson Co., KY on Knob Lick Fork of Pottenger's Creek, being part of Samuel McADAMS' 1,509 acre survey, bounded by the Knob Lick Branch of Pottinger's Creek, CARTER's line, Matthew JOHNSTON's 75 acres. Signed Igantius MEDCALF, Mary MEDCALF. Acknowledged same date. [No date.] Ignatius & Mary Ann MEDCALF deed to James QUEEN, for 125 pounds, 107 1/2 acres Knob Lick Branch of Pottinger's Creek, bought of S. McADAMS 1509 acre survey, adjacent to Matthew JOHNSON, Nelson Co., KY. Abstracts of Deeds 1785-1809 Nelson Co, Ky; NCGS; p 100, Deed Book 5, p 572: 25 Apr 1800, Ignatius Medcalf, wife Mary, to James Queen, 125 pounds, 107 1/2 ac Knob Lick Fork of Pottinger's Creek, part of Samuel McAdams 1509 ac survey, adj Mathew Johnston. So Ignatius MEDCALF was indeed married to a Mary Ann ? I don't think there is any disagreement that Anthanasius NOTTINGHAM had a daughter Mary Ann and she was single at time his will was written in 1767 NOTTINGHAM, ATHANASIUS, St Mary's Co. 11 Jul, 1767; 18 Aug, 1767 That my 3 Negroes, Margett, Nace and Ned, be sold. To son Philip Nottingham, tract where I live, called "Nivitts St Ann." That bro. Matthias Nottingham have care of Bennett, Barbary and Elizabeth Nottingham. Residue of estate to be divided among my 9 children: Basil, Catherine, Eleanor, Bennett, Barbary, Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Ann and Enoch. Extx.: wife Mary. Wit: Zachariah Forrest, Anne Lowe. 36. 187 This is the 1st records where Ignatius Medcalf is listed with his wife Mary , so as I see it sometime between 1767 and 1796 Ignatius MEDCALF got married to a Mary Ann ? who I believe was Mary Ann NOTTINGHAM Deed to Philip Norris from Ignatius Medcalf and wife, "Part of Hampton", 30 ac., 9/13/1796 (Chr.of SM). Deed from Ignatius and Mary Medcalf to Margaret Holton for "Part of Hampton", 30 ac., 9/13/1796. -----Original Message----- From: mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mdstmary-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Linda Reno Sent: Tuesday, January 27, 2009 5:48 AM To: mdstmary@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MDSTMARY] Mary Ann NOTTINGHAM Mary Ann Nottingham was baptized November 18, 1762 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. 3. The populous of Beaverdam Manor has often gotten my interest.  Due to William Jarboe Grove's Book. But, I never took the time to work the families, nor investigate where those early settlers descendants of noted achievement ended up.  With the exception of one.  Have put allot of effort in one Joseph Jarboe, Jr. son John Baptist Jarboe, as of late, said to  have been born in Fredrick County.  This particular Joseph and his wife Lydia Clements Jarboe was of the first to settle Westport, MO, in 1834.  Westport a few years later became Kansas City.  The Jarboe's and their allied families were part of the city government of KC up to the Civil War.  If that type of subject matter interest your project, be more than glad to forward the data. Best of luck on your project.   Randy or Kat Dunavan   Longview, Texas  903-720-3914 ________________________________ From: Linda Reno <lindareno@comcast.net> To: "MDCHARLE @rootsweb.com" <MDCHARLE@rootsweb.com>; MDSTMARY@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, January 22, 2009 6:11:48 PM Subject: [MDSTMARY] History Articles For those of you who may be interested, I have begun writing history articles for the "County Times", a relatively new newspaper in St. Mary's County.  The first article appeared last Thursday and the newest one came out today.  While both of these are about St. Mary's County, I will cover people and places in Charles, Calvert, and Prince George's County too. 1. [MDSTMARY] Ignatius Medcalf - Mary [Medley?]
    2. donald drury
    3. Does anyone know for sure if Mary w/o Ignatius Medcalf was a Medley? If so, who were her parents?   I have the following land record:   25 Feb 1797   Deed: "No Name", 77-acres from Ignatius & Mary Medcalf [Medley]   to John Drury.   DA:TH25:046 ************************************   This tract was in the posession of a Clement Medley from 1753 to 1758 per Linda Reno's transcriptions of Debt Books but at that time the tract was 100 acres.   I have 2 Clement Medleys in my database both with daughters named Mary. The problem is that Mary d/o Clement and Mary Williams was dead by 1772 and according to Mike Gough, Mary d/o Clement and Mary Mills was married to John Baptist Gough sometime in the 1790's with Children from 1799 to 1808.   Any corrections or additions to help clear the confusion will be greatly appreciated.   Thanks much to all,   Don

    3. Dottie, It is very easy to mis-read the distribution record. It is now saying that Margaret McClain, is the wife of Samuel Burch. It is saying Samuel Burch and wife, meaning Dorothea Catherine Brown. Margaret McClain, would have been a Brown sibling, who married a McClain. I do not have any additional information to help you with any other information that you have provided.
