St. George Island is in St. Mary's County. I am not researching any of your names. I just live here. Sarah "My boyfriend also has family listed in 1800's census as living in Thomas Store. I delivered Meals on Wheels today and asked a native of St. George Island about Thomas Store. She told me that it was on Thomas Road, (that makes sense) just north (before) St. Francis Xavier church. There was also a hotel there. She visited Thomas Store and was born in 1924.

Brenda - I am also researching the descendants of James Henry Quade. My father-in-law (now deceased), Charles William Quade, descends from James. Care to share info? I am researching James Henry Quade B-abt-1806 in Maryland. D-Bet1860 and 1870 in St.Mary's County.I know his dads name is Thomas Quade but that's all I have. James's wife name is Cecelia A.Copsey.B-1815 Maryland and D-15-May,1900 in St..Mary's County. Her Dads last name is Copsey but i have no first name, her mom's name is Elizabeth no last name she was born ABT-1790. Any help will be greatly appericated Thanks in advance Brenda
Dear Listers, Sorry if this is a repeat but I did not get any of my copies of this request. Does anyone have additional information about either of these men? Ignatius Drury was born in Maryland in 1789 (age at death was reported as 36 in obit) and died 7/26/1825 in Allegheny county, Maryland. He was a delegate to the Maryland Legislature for 1822-23.It is possible though not proved that he had St. Mary's county connections. He was apparently one of three delegates sponsoring the so called "Jew Bill" which, as I understand it, was a bill to allow Jews to vote in Maryland. Ignatius Drury was administrator for the estate of Benjamin Brown in Washington county, Maryland. When he died William C. Drury took over the administrative duties. There was an Ignatius Drury who served as a lieutenant in the Maryland Militia for Washington county in 1812. This is possibly but not certainly the same man . I initially thought Ignatius might be one of the 2 Ignatius Drurys whose marriages are reported in Barnes "Maryland Marriages" in 1799 and 1800 but this Ignatius would not have been old enough to marry at that time. Any and all possibilities gratefully accepted. Thanks in advance, Don Drury
David, Thank You for the info. Will get my check in the mail tomorrow along with my e-mail address & surnames that I am researching from the area. Bobbie

If you have Confederates in your family tree, you might be interested in the Spring & Summer 2009 issues of the "Generator." We, at the SMCGS, had a group of speakers at the November 2008 meeting from the local camp of the SCV. One of the speakers handed out a 10+ page "how to research" packet for finding info on Confederate soldiers & sailors. He gave me his OK to print the hand-out in the "Generator." We will be printing the first section of his hand-out in the Spring 2009 "Generator" to be published in early March. I hope to finish up the packet in the Summer issue. Again, if you are not yet a member, this might be a good time to join .... esp. if you have ancestors who fought for the Confederacy during the American Civil War. David David Roberts Editor "Generator" SMCGS
Bobbie: Please send your $14.00 ASAP. The next "Generator" is coming out shortly & it would be good to have you on the list for a name-label. Please send your check for $14.00 + your name, postal address, e-mail address, telephone number + up to 5 family surnames you are working on to: St. Mary's County Genealogical Society P. O. Box 1109 Leonardtown, MD 20650-1109 If you join now, you will receive as a packet these back issues: Fall 2008 Winter 2008-2009 Membership Roster 2008-2009 Bonus Issue 2009 and then: Spring 2009 {to be issued in March} Summer 2009 {to be issued in June} > Do I send with it a SSAE for a membership card or what? No, we do not issue membership cards. We did back in the 70s & 80s, but there really wasn't anything you could use the card for, so we dropped it. For people who join after the membership roster is printed, we print their names in the Spring &/or Summer issue as "Additions and Corrections." Otherwise, new members wait until the next Membership Roster is printed. Any other questions, please contact me.
