You're absolutely correct. Wm. Brereton and Wm. Bretton do not seem to be the same person. I had quoted Robert Maitland Brereton's book Breretons of Cheshire of one who "settled in Md in 1637 with wife, l child, and 3 servants. He was granted 750 acres in St. Mary's Co., was a burgess in 1649, and gave land to a church on St. Clement's bay in 1661. Breton's Bay and Britton, MD (noted on a 1692 map) mark the locality of the estate." Fortunately, several people were able to correct this error. Unfortunately, it does not help you with identifying ancestors of your Wm. Bretton. If I receive any information re: the Brettons I will forward it to you. Thank you again for your response. 2. Jackie King
    3. Mike - I don't have an answer to you Nevitt question but let me add one more spouse to your children of Oliver Burch. Millicent Burch - and I am sorry I don't have any real dates for her married Samuel Cookesy BARRON. They had a daughter Rebecca b. about 1760 and d. 31 Jan 1848 in Washington, D.C. Rebecca married yet another Burch - Capt. Benjamin Burch, son of Benjamin Burch and Elizabeth Taylor. He was b. 9 May 1761 in Prince George's County, MD and died 5 May 1832 in Washington D.C. Benjamin was a well known patriot in both the Revolutionary War and War of 1812 and the longtime doorkeeper of the U.S. House of Representatives. Benjamin and Rebecca were the parents of at least 9 children. Jackie Mike Gough wrote: > Susan, do I have the family of Mary Montgomery correct? 3. Elizabeth Greenwell was born 1799 in Washington Co., KY d/o Charles Greenwell & Mary Brown. Arnold John Greenwell was still married to Mary Thompson in 1799. In the 3rd paragraph her age of 53 should have been 58. See 1850 census Larue Co. where she is age 50 making her birth year 1799/1800. They must have moved to Hart county between 1855 & 1858. William Lush & Elizabeth Peak had a daughter Nancy B. Lush born 9 Sep 1855, Larue Co. by birth records. William Lushs father & son appeared to move together based on census records. 1. [MDSTMARY] Mary ? Nevitt McAtee
    2. Susan Johanson
    3. We don't know for sure what Mary's maiden name was. I think the reason that many have her maiden name as Montgomery is because Margaret Gates Montgomery's will in 1774 mentioned a Mary McAtee, but it probably was another daughter Mary Montgomery who married James McAtee. > MONTGOMERY, MARGARET, Charles Co, 10 Oct, 1773 > 20 Dec. 1774 > To son Joseph Montgomery, 56 acres of land I bought of Peter Montgomery. > To dau. Mary Montgomery, bed, sheets and covering. > To son and daus: William Montgomery, MARY MACATEE, Susana Higden and > Margret Turner, 1 shilling each. > To all my children: unmarried, personal estate equally. > To son Ignatius Montgomery, ex. > Wit: William and Rhoda Turner; James Montgomery. 40.165 The Mary who married Richard Nevitt and Edmund McAtee would have been too old to have been a daughter of Peter Montgomery's wife Margaret, and I have seen no proof that she was a daughter of his other wife. Does anyone have any clues or proof of Mary ? Nevitt McAtee's maiden name? Here is a link to my rootsweb site that shows Mary and the children from her two marriages to Richard Nevitt and Edmund McAtee. You can hit the descendancy link for her descendants. Charles Nevitt was a son of John Nevitt. BTW, all of the birth dates are educated guesses. http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=johanson&id=I01073 Hope this helps, and if anyone has any answers, please let me know.
