    1. [MDSTMARY] Samantha Overton - Solomons United Methodist Cemetery
    2. David Roberts
    3. Anybody have anything on this lady ? I added her to www.findagrave.com Her father MAY have been Charles E. Ketcham of Amityville, Suffolk County, L. I. & mother Mary Parks of Somerset County, Md. {Eastern Shore}; her husband Willis E. Overton was born in Stony Brook, Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, L. I.; Willis & family were in Northumberland County, Virginia, per 1880 census & in Calvert County by 1894. Suffolk County was the home of the Ryder, Smith, Mosher, & Beebe oystermen/watermen who ended up along the St. Mary's shore of the Patuxent - Mt. Zion M. E. Church, Laurel Grove; Joy Chapel M. E. Church, Hollywood; Ebenezer M. E. Church, Great Mills - all have people connected to these men in their cemeteries; Overton across the Patuxent at Solomons M. E. Church. I finally connected my Brookhaven ancestry to a Mosher woman marrying a Norton man in Brookhaven - back about 1700; so I'm distantly related to the Moshers in Hollywood; ditto the Smiths in Hollywood. Anyway, what's known about these OVERTONs in Calvert County ? Overton is an old name in Brookhaven, Suffolk County. Thanks ! 3. Mary Ann, I disagree. I have found no proof, nor is any offered below, that Charles Jarboe was married to anyone other than the Horn girl. McGuire says: "However in 1752 when Horn's estate is settled, Charles is no longer an heir. Presumably his wife had died and had left no surviving children." There were no administration accounts dated 1752 for John Horn who d. 1748. The accounts she refers to are for his son, John, Jr., husband of Ann Hendley and there was no reason to list Charles Jarboe as an heir. She also says: "The Horn girl could not have been his lst wife. In a deposition recorded in Land Commissioners Rec, LJH @1, ff14-15, Matthew Jarboe declares he was born @ 1737, a son of Charles Jarboe and refers to his uncles, Peter and Henry." O.K., I'll bite. There's nothing here that tells me why Matthew Jarboe couldn't have been a son of ____Horn. So, where's the proof? Lastly she says: "Although no estate papers have been found for him, there is a curious estate settlement for one Susanna Jarboe in 1796. She leaves personality to Matthew Jarboe and also, Joshua Jarboe, Charles Jarboe, Frances Brown and Ann Drady Stone or their heirs. Her relationship is not stated but she does tie these people together. Another tie, is that all belonged to the same parish and their children all baptized in the same time period. They serve as baptismal sponsors for one another and Susanna , herself, is frequently sponsor. She could well be the 3rd wife of Charles. Currant research indicates she was a Brown by birth." Disagree, disagree, disagree. This was Susanna Jarboe, daughter of Charles Jarboe. And no, she wasn't Susanna Brown, dau. of Derrick Brown as Donnelly claimed. The heirs below are of her siblings. 10/20/1796: Admin. accts. of Susanna Jarboe, SMC. Equally: Matthew Jarboe, Dryden Ann Stone's heirs; Charles Jarboe's heirs; Joshua Jarboe's heirs; Frances Brown. Mary Clarke, b 7 May 1779 You are Saying this Robert CLARKE who married Mary ? above is the son of Robert CLARKE JR. and Mary ? or Mary WILKINSON? Date: Thu, 06 Mar 2003 08:00:57 -0500 From: lindareno@comcast.net Subject: William and Robert Clarke To: Jerry Clark <clark4@quik.com> X-Priority: 3 As you'll note from the will below, James Smith indicates that William and Robert Clarke were leasing "Point Lookout" as of the time of his will. Also note that the will refers to "St. Gabriel's Manor", "Portney's Oversight", etc. All of this property is located at the extreme southern end of the County in the area where the Angels, Horns, and other families lived. I see two possible William/Robert combinations--sons of Thomas Clarke and Grace Greenwell, but I'm really leaning toward sons of Robert (not sure and don't have my notes) and Mary Wilkinson. Both sets of William/Robert are living about the same time. Will of James Smith, Trinity Manor, SMC, 11/21/1753-3/18/1754. Son: John, all my lands in "St. Gabriel's Manor" both in possession and in reversion. Daughter: Elizabeth Parrott, now wife of William Loker, the plantation I bought of William Asbestone and the land on that side of the rd. from the land where Joseph Fitzjeffery lives on to Asbestone's bounded gum tree. Daughter: Mary Smith, the plantation now in the tenure of Ezekiah Fitzjeffery; the land where Ann Bean now lives; and the land where John Conley now lives beginning with the land called "The Narrows" to a path that goes from Jonathan Thomas to the land of Solomon Jones' heirs to Pt. Lookout Creek. Daughter: Martha Smith, the plantation called "The Narrows" latein the tenure of Joseph Fitzjeffery and now rented by Ezekiah Fitzjeffery, his son and the land called "Point Lookout" now in the tenure of William and Robert Clark. Daughter: Susanna Smith, land called "Portney's Oversight" and the land I bought of William Egerton called "Pt. of Portney Marsh". Son: James Smith, all other land and advantages of "Trinity St. Gabriel's" and "St. Michael's Manor" and of land bought of John Plummer which became mine after the death of Margaret Plummer and land adjoining called "Turvey" and the purchase money to be paid out of my estate, also land bought of John Yarrington and Bridget, his wife. Daughter: Susanna, two years rent of land executed from Austin Smoot and the land in the "Cross Manor"bought of John Angel. Son: John, 14 head of cattle. If son James Smith dies without heirs, then James Smith, son of John Smith, to inherit the land. The remainder of the land in "St. Michael's Manor" between "St. Gabriel's Manor" and the road that leads from Thomases to Jones be divided between John Smith and my daughter, Elizabeth. Wife: Mary, dwelling plantation; 500 ac.; the slaves named Great Charles, Limehous, Robin, Rainer, Dick, Jenny; furniture, etc. Daughter: Elizabeth, 6500lbs. tobacco. Daughter: Martha Smitha negro girl named Rose; mulatto Sarah's two children named Harry and Nan Rose. Daughter: Susanna a negro boy Isac and girl Sall or Sarah. Son: James, mulatto man Kinier and his son George. To: Mary Smith, anegro named Temboy and a boy Frank. To: Martha Smith, Little Charles and Punch. Daughter: Susanna, negro boys Abraham and Jacob. 1. Re: [MDSTMARY] Thomas Clarke Jr.
    2. Jerry L. Clark
    3. Linda Reno, Ok, I have regrouped once again. You said: Yes, but don't forget that Thomas, Jr. m. second, Joanna, widow of John Witherington/Weatherton, etc. So what I think your saying is that Thomas CLARKE Jr. married 1st to Susanna HORNE and 2nd to Joanna widow of John Witherington. And this is his will Maryland Calendar Of Wills 1774-1777 Volume 16 Family Line Publications Westminster, Maryland 1995, p. 173 CLERK, THOMAS, SR., St. Mary's Co. 20 Jan. 1777; 15 Feb. 1777 To dau. Pressiller Clark, Negro wench Hannah, and equal part of residue of estate. Son, Ignatius Clerk, Ex. Wit: John Horn Abell; John Denbar. 41. 204 Whereas the Thomas CLARKE (son of Robert CLARKE Jr. and Mary ?) married 1st to Unknown And this is his will Will of Thomas Clarke, SMC, 6/5/1783-8/5/1783. Son: George Clarke, a negro named Lewis; one young horse; and a saddle and bridle. Daughter: Nancy Clarke, a negro named Jesse. Daughter: Anna Clarke, a negro named Nace. Son: Thomas Clarke, a negro named Dick. Exec: Brother, Robert Clarke. Wit: Moses Davis, William Loker. NOTE: The widow, Susanna Clarke, renounced this will and claimed her third. He married 2nd to a Susanna ? And from 2nd marriage he had a son named Thomas CLARKE. This is will of 2nd wife of Thomas CLARKE son of Robert CLARKE Jr. and Mary ? Will of Susanna Clarke, SMC, 5/25/1785-9/3/1788. Son: Thomas Clarke, all of my estate both real and personal. He is to be in the care of Ann Griffin (widow) until he reaches the age of 21. To: Ann Griffin, the use of my bed and chest until my son, Thomas Clarke, comes of age. She is to return these items to him in the same condition she got them. She is to also have my clothes to make use of as she sees fit toward the clothing of my boy. She is to have the interest from my estate for her trouble and expense in raising, bringing up, and schooling my child. Exec.: Matthias Clarke. Wit.: John Horn Abell, Jean Fenwick. Linda Reno Said: Susanna's will leads me to believe that the only child she had was Thomas Clarke, so I would assume she was a second wife of Thomas Clarke (d. 1783), brother of Robert Clarke. Susanna, as you'll see, survived him and then she died in 1788, also with a will, naming her husband's nephew, Matthias Clarke (son of Robert) as her Executor. Do I have it correct now???

    1. Re: [MDSTMARY] Thomas Clarke Jr.
    2. Mary Ann Shoemaker
    3. Linda, Pertaining to the daughter of John Horn, who married Charles Jarboe b 1700 St Mary's Co. etc. I have his wife as a possible Suzanna Brown dau of Derrick Brown. The marriage date "bef 1737" also is the same as listed below. This from L. Donnelly's book "Beaverdam" Another source on Charles Jarboe; Mary Jo McGuire's Book THE JARBOE FAMILY p 22, (1983) Gives the following: "Charles appears to have had 3 wives. In 1748, he is names as son-in-law of John Horn in Horn's will. However in 1752 when Horn's estate is settled, Charles is not longer an heir. Presumably his wife had died and had left o surviving children. The horn girl could not have been his lst wife. In a deposition recorded in Land Commissioners Rec, LJH @1, ff14-15, Matthew Jarboe declares he was born @ 1737, a son of Charles Jarboe and refers to his uncles, Peter and Henry. Land records indicate that Charles died about 1776.Although no estate papers have been four for him, there is a curious estate settlement for one Susanna Jarboe in 1796. Currant research indicates she was a Brown by birth." Just wondering. 1. [MDSTMARY] Susanna HORNE CLARKE???
    2. Jerry L. Clark
    3. Linda Reno, Now that I have agreed that Thomas Clarke Jr. Married Susanna HORNE. Is the will below that of Susanna HORNE (CLARKE) or is it the Susanna ? 1st wife of Thomas CLARKE son of Robert CLARKE Jr. and Mary ? If we say it's the will of Susanna ? the wife of Thomas CLARKE son of Robert CLARKE Jr. and Mary ?, then how can we say that Joanna ? widow of John Witherinton was his 2nd wife? When Susanna's will is dated 1788, after his death. Then what we need to decide is if this will below of Thomas Clarke: Will of Thomas Clarke, SMC, 6/5/1783-8/5/1783. Son: George Clarke, a negro named Lewis; one young horse; and a saddle and bridle. Daughter: Nancy Clarke, a negro named Jesse. Daughter: Anna Clarke, a negro named Nace. Son: Thomas Clarke, a negro named Dick. Exec: Brother, Robert Clarke. Wit: Moses Davis, William Loker. NOTE: The widow, Susanna Clarke, renounced this will and claimed her third. Is this the will of Thomas CLARKE son of Robert CLARKE Jr. and Mary ? Or is it the Thomas CLARKE Jr. son of Thomas CLARKE and Grace GREENWELL. If We say will above is that of Thomas CLARKE Jr. then we have a different set of children than ones below. We also have this will Maryland Calendar Of Wills 1774-1777 Volume 16 Family Line Publications Westminster, Maryland 1995, p. 173 CLERK, THOMAS, SR., St. Mary's Co. 20 Jan. 1777; 15 Feb. 1777 To dau. Pressiller Clark, Negro wench Hannah, and equal part of residue of estate. Son, Ignatius Clerk, Ex. Wit: John Horn Abell; John Denbar. 41. 204 Either way the Joanna ? widow of John Witherington does not work as a spouse of either Thomas CLARKE. So There must be a Third Thomas CLARKE who married the Joanna ? widow of John Witherington

    1. Re: [MDSTMARY] Edward Abell and John Horn Abell
    2. Jerry L. Clark
    3. K. Woodring Said: Jerry, I have the same question, but also have a John Horn Abell hanging empty on my to do list. My Comments: I have Edward ABELL who married ? HORNE as having children: John Horn ABELL Jane ABELL married John DUNBAR Some web sites are claiming this Edward ABELL is the son of John Abell and Mary FISHER, but I have John Abell and Mary FISHER with a son Edward Abell who married Susanna Spalding, not sure if he also married a ? HORNE. Other web sites claim Edward ABELL son of John ABELL and Mary USHER. I have all of John Abell's children under wife Mary FISHER. But the interesting thing is now that I have agreed that Thomas Clarke Jr. (son of Thomas Clarke and Grace GREENWELL)married Susanna HORN. If Edward Abell is a son of John Abell and Mary FISHER, then his Brother Cuthbert Abell married Mary CLARKE also a daughter of Thomas Clarke and Grace GREENWELL.
