    1. [MDSTMARY] WOOD in SMC
    2. I also remember back around last Thanksgiving a woman named Vicki Mouser had been corresponding with me about the descendants of James Wood and Rachel Gillam from SMC. She said shew was going to start a group on this line. I nver herad any more from her. Does anyone know more about this? I wish I still had her email. Thanks. Bonnie

    1. Re: [MDSTMARY] A bunch of DAVIS connections to my James Suit/Suite
    2. Thanks Linda!! http://www.heritagepursuit.com/Champaign/Champaign%281%29.htm This website has the listing of the men in 1806 and lists a man named Zekiel DAVIS next to a man named James SUIT. ---- I do have an Ezekiel DAVIS in my FTM who was b. bef 1786 in New Bern, Craven Co. NC and related to the line of DAVIS people who have to SOMEHOW stem from the line of John Davis and Anne Briscoe of SMC! I have him listed as the son of John Davis and Elizabeth Adams. I have John Davis as s/o Thomas Davis and Mary White (d/o Robert White, Sr. of SMC). Thomas as b. between 1716-1730 in MD or NC. Elizabeth Adams was d/o Willoughby Adams and Elizabeth Weeks. Elizabeth Adams also had a sister named Dorcas Adams who married Lawson Davis, brother of John!!!*** These people all ived in Craven Co NC in the 1780 timeframe. That specific location is also where my James Suit's sister-in-law, Elizabeth Banner, d/o Peter Banner and Elizabeth Wood (of SMC) married James Coleman in 1785. I got the Banner-Coleman bond from the Archives so I know this is factual. I also know Peter Banner and Elizabeth Wood are related to Davis in SMC because Elizabeth Wood Banner's mother was Anne Briscoe Davis Wood and since she was widowed from John Davis, her older Davis children were 1/2 siblings to the WOOD siblings from her marriage to Samuel Wood after she waas widowed from John Davis. That is how Elizabeth Wood Banner connects to DAVIS and they have to also be part of the Davis group in New Bern, but how? Who was this Thomas Davis? Who were his parents? He has to be a missing link from MD! ---- Also-- Who was the man named James Suit who I found in Champaigne Co. OH in 1806 named next to a man named Zekiel Davis? Was that a coincidence or did those 2 men travel to OH together? I am very interested in this possibility because the Ezekiel Davis I have in my FTM who was the right age and was connected to the Davis' who came from SMC to Craven Co NC. I believe that the James Suit found in Champaigne Co OH James may be a son of my James--but can't prove it--BUT HE MAY HAVE HAD A SON OLDER THANWILLIAM per census. William wasn't born until after 1790. And this OH James Suit is apparently the James Suit wh married Amy/Anny Davis in 1799. Was she d/o George Davis and NOT John Davis as someone put on familysearch.org? --- I still wonder if my James Suit was the s/o Susannah WOOD SIOT and not Elizabeth Johnson!!! I think he married his cousin Anna Banner. Maybe I'm wrong--but it is possible. That's why I so badly want to find James Suit's christening record (1765) to find out exactly who his parents and sponsorrs were!! ****** Please-- if anyone comes across the Christening record from 1765 please let me know the parents names and also the sponsors.**** ****** My James Suit seemed to have quite a few connections to Davis. His brother-in-law, Benjamin Banner was living in SMC in 1800 next to Benjamin Suit on the census and interestingly, had married Ann Davis in SMC 24 Mar 1797-- Another DAVIS connection!!! Which Davis did she come from? Was she one of the NC Davis women who returned to SMC to marry or visit a relative? Who were her parents? Richard as we previously discussed? Has anyone found out more information on that line? Or was she kin to Elizabeth Davis who married Hanson Bennet that SAME year (1 Feb 1797) also in SMC? My guess is they were sisters. These 2 families also moved together to Barnwell Co SC after 1800 and we see them together on the 1810 census in SC. I think Hanson Bennett may have been listed next to Owen Davis' family on the 1800 census. Not sure how that /Elizabeth Davis is connected to Owen DAvis. Was Richard related to Owen? ------------ Finally, back to the Zekiel Davis found next to a man named James Suit as listed on the top of this posting--but it could be a significant connection to my James suit and the James Suit who married DAVIS supposedly in Champainge Co OH in 1799: http://www.heritagepursuit.com/Champaign/Champaign%281%29.htm This man named James SUIT married a woman named Amy or Anny Davis in Champaigne Co OH in 1799 (my guess is maybe MD or VA) but it is on familysearch.org. You can actually go in and view the notes about this marriage in a notebook with the viewer and it looks like ANNY to me. But my eyestight is not great. ON the familysearch.org site, it says Amy (Anny?) was d/o Mary Easter Thomas and John Davis of VA. Proof? Was the James Suit in OH listed with the Zekiel Davis--perhaps a son of my James Suit? He may have had an "older" son than William and Samuel. The reason I am thinking that this James may be s/o my James is beause I remember there was a discussion on the list a while ago about "reverse deeds" being associated with marriages. It is interesting that George Davis and James Suit who were neighbors had one and now we know the date for the reverse deed was 1804. That is why I question if the James Suit who married Amy/Anny Davis wasn't maybe related to George Davis and that James suite may have been a son of my James. Does anyone know the "proof" that Amy/Anny Davis was the d/o John Davis of VA and Mary Easter Thomas? What if that is wrong? Too many Davis folks-- like finding aneedle in a haystack:) There are just a whole lot of Davis clues to my James Suit and trying to get more information. But so many pieces missing to this puzzle!!! ----- On a related James Suite subject--but for a different man named this: Recently, I did get an estate for a James Suite who d. 1815 in Granville co NC. He was s/o John Suite (who d. 1840) and wife, Susannah Locke. I know this because of the legatees listed. Apparently he died intestate but had wanted his family to give money to the towns of New Bern NC and Norfolk, VA. He is the James Suite that was in the War of 1812 in Granville Co. NC. I had the NC State Archives searh for any marriage bonds for him, but there were none. He must've just been a young kid who may have died from war injuries. Apparently he never marrid and the legatees were his parents and siblings. I don't think he was the man in OH. ---- ========================== > Bonnie and List, > > Deed to James Suite from George Davis for "Canoe Neck", 100 ac. Joshua Howard, son of Thomas and Anastasia, and brother to Henry, was married to Mary. Their children were Henrietta bapt. 8 Oct 1753 and Austin 8 Oct 1755. We know that Mary Bailey must have married about 1752. She was still Mary Bailey in her father's 1751 will, but Mary Howard by the Administration Account of Dec 4, 1753. Henrietta was the name of Mary's sister. Mary Bailey married a Howard before her father's estate administration on 4 Dec 753. Unless John Bailey still called her Mary Bailey in his 20 Jul 1751 will fter her marriage. Seems unlikely. 3. Bonnie and List, Deed to James Suite from George Davis for "Canoe Neck", 100 ac. (Reverse deed same day), 12/4/1804. The 1790 census listing you refer to was for John Smoot, not John Soot. Could you tell me more about this? Ezekiel Davis and mother was an Adams? "He may have been from St. Mary's Co., MD, but not sure. He is in Champaingn Co OH with a Zekiel Davis who may be the Ezekiel Davis from Craven Co NC who had several siblings and his mother was an Adams. One sibling was named Briscoe Davis so I know they connect to SMC." I would agree that the name Briscoe Davis is going to ensure a tie to St. Mary's County--that would also include the name of Lawson Davis. I would think they're going to connect to my Davis family--John Davis, Jr. who married Ann Briscoe, but there's so little information available to tie them together! Below is what I currently have. Instead of showing by John Davis, her husband, I'm showing the descendants by Ann Briscoe as she was married twice. Linda Reno Descendants of Ann Briscoe Generation No. 1 1. 3. I think I have a better possibility for the husband of Mary Bailey, daughter of John Bailey. 3. Dear Pat, While I will quickly to bow to Linda Reno and happily praise her as the expert she is, the little I have in my working files may be of help to you until Linda has time to reply: Colonial Settlers of St. Clement's Bay by Mary Louise Donnelly states that Ann Cissell, dau. of Thomas, m. Leonard Payne. (Please be aware that Donnellyy's work sometimes contains unintentional errors. You will need to gather proof and merely use her work as "a clue.") Leonard Payne, Sr. had a daughter named Ann who was married to a Cissell and mentions her in his will. (Ann Payne married John Baptist Cissell. See Catholic Families of Southern Maryland, Timothy J. O'Rourke, Genealogical Pub. Co. Inc. Baltimore, 1985 and Records of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1744-1916 for the children. This line of the family moved to Nelson/Washington County, KY) Will of Leonard Payne, Sr., SMC, planter, 10/6/1775-11/4/1775. Son: Vincent, dwelling plantation; if he dies without issue, to son John. Son: Raphael, upper end of my property; if he dies without issue to Son Jeremiah. Son: John, 1 horse. Granddaughters: Elizabeth Newton and Anastasia Payne, 1 shilling each. 4 grandchildren: Philip, Elizabeth, Mary, and Susanna Payne, 10 shillings each. Son: Benjamin, stock and a saddle. Daughter: Elizabeth Payne, stock; furniture; chest; pewter, etc. Daughter: Monica Payne, stock; furniture; pewter, candlesticks. Daughter: Priscilla Vowles, linen wheel and pewter. Daughter: Ann Cissell, pewter. Son: Jeremiah, stock and furniture. Children: Benjamin, Elizabeth, Jeremiah, Monica, and Leonard Payne the residue of my personal estate equally. Exec: Son, Leonard. 2. Gayle Howard Londeree
    3. Thanks Jerry, My speculation on Henry Howard being a possible husband can't be right because Henry and Mary Howard are mentioned in the will of Francis Spink in 1749. Mary Bailey married a Howard before her father's estate administration on 4 Dec 1753. Unless John Bailey still called her Mary Bailey in his 20 Jul 1751 will after her marriage. Seems unlikely. 2. Pat Linton
    3. Thank you Clark8178 for putting your notes on the family of Thomas Howard on your last e-mail!  I have a question for you or for anyone else on the list.   You have that the unnamed daughter of Thomas Howard married John Payne.  It says that John Payne was the son of Leonard Payne and Anne Cissell.  What is the source for saying that John was the son of Leonard and Anne (Cissell) Payne?     I know that you have Linda Reno listed as your source, so perhaps Linda could answer this for you.  Anyones help would be appreciated very much!!!   Pat Linton Eugene, Oregon   From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> To: [email protected]; [email protected] Sent: Friday, July 1, 2011 5:56 AM Subject: Re: [MDSTMARY] Henry Howard next of kin These are my notes I assume all is still the same. 1. 1. [MDSTMARY] Jane Gardiner O'Bryan??
    2. Jamey McLoughlin
    3. HI, The answer to this question may never be answered. I would like to communicate with some in depth Gardiner/Gardner researchers on their findings. I am referring to Jane Gardiner O'Bryan who married Peter O'Bryan and both died in the 1790s in Prince George's county. I never questioned Jane's name or spelling since this is what came down from my great grandmother who was Jane's granddaughter. Last year I was able to take a story handed down to me and put it with findings of a long time O'Bryan researcher to figure out Peter's father John Bryan from Charles County had been raised by Col. John Bane of Charles county and Peter O'Bryan died in Prince Georges county in 1793. I was told another story by my great aunt who was up in years when she told me this. She said my great great grandmother had come from a wealthy, staunch Catholic family and her father was a prominent judge where they lived. When she married my great great grandfather her family felt she was marrying beneath her and she was marrying a non Catholic Irishman. For this reason her family disowned her and wrote her out of their will. I have been able to prove this never happened to my great great grandparents, Elizabeth Kincheloe & William O'Bryan of Kentucky. However I do wonder if my great aunt confused her generations. Could Jane have been the one disowned by her family (the Gardiners) for marrying a non Catholic (Peter O'Bryan)? Bare in mind Peter's father John was Irish, raised English and non Catholic and Peter wasn't Catholic either? My question is, "Is their a Gardiner existing during the 1730s - 1750s, staunch Catholic, and a prominent judge in Charles county?" We also know Lewis O'Bryan was William's only "known" brother and he was born in 1759 and William in 1763. I have even questioned if Jane was Peter O'Bryan's only marriage????
