Does anyone know if there were any legal guardianship records in existance for the surviving minors of Benjamin Suit who d. 1810 in SMC? There were 2 known men named Alexander Suite connected to Benjamin Suit/Suite who d. in SMC in 1810. One man was b. ca. 1766 and married a woman named Agnes Benfield in the 1780's in Greene Co TN which had previously been part of Western NC. He was either brother of Benjamin and thus, s/o Dent Suite or he was the one who was Benjamin's son. He had gone to NC which became TN. I do not have any further information on him -- or know what became of him after the marriage record. There was a 2nd Alexander Suit who was b. 1799 and also lived in TN. He is written as a son of Benjamin Suit in biographical information about his son, William Riley Suit, II. I question this because if he was not born until 1799 presu8mabley to Benjamin Suit and Mildred (his 3rd?? wife), then why is there no guardian bond or apprenticeship, etc. But that one recod says that Alexander Suit was alegatee who had remved from Maryland before that estate around 1811. He was only maybe 12 years old. Would he not have been a minor in the law at that time? Does anyone know if there were ever any guardianship records for Benjamin's childred such as Kelita, Mildred Ann, and others and maybe this Alexander? It would answer many questions. Thank you in advance for any help. Bonnie Treon

Author: Kirsten_Holm Surnames: Hayden / Clement / Thompson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.maryland.counties.stmarys/4535/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm hoping someone can help me sort out some of my husband's St. Mary's ancestors. My husband is descended from William Hayden (1674-1732). I've found a record of a marriage in 1695 to Elizabeth Clements, who is sometimes reported as 1674-1761. However, I did find one record of personal handwritten notes that she died before 1705. I've also found mention of his marriage in 1705 to Elizabeth Thompson (1685-1761). But sometimes she appears as spanning both life spans, 1674-1761. Complicating matters is a record of a marriage in 1700 to Anna Snowden. But I've only found one Family Record Collection Data thing (that genetic collection?) and nowhere else have I found that so I'm discounting it somewhat. Does anyone know if these two Elizabeths are, in fact, one person? Elizabeth Clements Thompson? Or did Clements die in 1705 and William remarry Thompson? A few things lead me to believe the oldest 4 children were from a previous wife and the 8 were from Thompson. --The oldest 4 children are (usually) noted as being born before the 1705 marriage. --William Hayden's will bequeaths specific things to his 4 oldest children and then leaves the rest to his wife, to be divided between the 8 remaining children. --Elizabeth Thompson's will leaves things to the 8 children, or their heirs, but not to the oldest 4. If anyone has reliable information untangling this man and his wife/wives, I would very much appreciate hearing from them. This is causing quite a lot of criss-crossing of lines in my tree! I also had a general question, not particularly specific to St. Mary's. I've found records in the Family Record Collection. How reliable are those? I've found some questionable dates/relationships there but didn't know if I was misinterpreting them. I've learned to be very cautious about accepting Personal Family Tree relationships without close examination if not actual proof-too many children born 5 years before their parents! Thanks so much for any help you can give. Kirsten Holm Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Who was Henry Greenfield Sothoron? My Suit family was somehow connected to 2 men named after him: 1. Henry Greenfield Sothoron Key. *His son, Robert Morris Key, b. 1-3-1832 in Leonardtown, MD, married the granddaughter of Charles Hall, Jr.of Baldwin Co. AL whose 2 wives were sisters of my 3rd great grandmother Margaret Byrne McVoy--whose own grandson, Martin McVoy< Sr. came to So. MD from Pensacola or Mobile before the Civil War. His son, Martin McVoy, Jr.,wed Margaret Suite, d/o Norris Suite and they were my grandparents. The Byrne sisters were all children of Gerald Byrne of Dublin Ire. and Ann Palmer Allman Byrne, who was apparently also married to a DAVIS (maybe from SMC) before the Revolution. 2. Henry Greenfield Sothoron Cartwright: Benjamin Suit/Suite, s.oDent Suit who d. 1810 in SMC was appaointed his guardian in 1803.
Does anyone know if a man named Charles Hall was from St. Mary's Co MD. He may have been born shortly before 1750 & possibly was a Loyalist in the Revolution and possibly connected to or part of the family that went to Halifax Co. NC with Suit, Edwards, Locke, etc. Thank you for any information or help on this Hall family. B. TReon [email protected] [email protected]
No. Broom's Island is not in St. Leonard Creek (nor on it! LOL) Brooms Island is on the western shore of the Calvert County peninsula and is located between Island Creek and the Patuxent River. You can Google it and the internet will map it for you. The place still exists here. BTW, there are tons of houses here and the place has a small Genealogy library. The courthouse burnt down, so some records were lost, but I'm sure you could find information on the family there. Bradburn is still a local name in the area. I work with one! But I do have a question about this marriage that's confusing me. I'm hoping someone knows the answer. I've seen William Hayden reported to be married to Elizabeth Clements in 1694 and to Elizabeth Thompson in 1705. (I've also seen him reported as married to Anna Snowdon in between in 1700 but I'm discounting that.) Is it possible that the wives are the same person? Elizabeth is Elizabeth Clements Thompson (Hayden)? Even then there are several attributed children that were born before even the 1794 marriage. A number of children are not mentioned in the will because they predeceased her, but there are still several that predated the marriage. If anyone can shed any light on this I'd be very grateful! I'm wondering if James Howard (my 5th great-grandfather) may have apprenticed as a shoemaker with Thomas Thompson (my 6th great-grandfather). James' son Charles Howard married Thomas' granddaughter Frances Ann "Panny" Thompson in 1800 in Washington county, Kentucky. I'm beginning to suspect Henry Howard (died before 24 Aug 1775) as the father of James. >From Judith Burger in 2002 MARYLAND CALENDAR OF WILLS, VOL 15, 1772-1774, Baldwin/Cotton, p. 30, FTMCD 206 Jerningham, Henry, St. Mary's Co., 19 Nov 1772 6 Jan 1773 .
