Randy, Thomas Courtney, Sr. is the one who married Eleanor Johnson. Thomas Courtney, Jr. below is their son. Thomas Courtney was married three times in all. His first wife was Sarah Taylor, daughter of Philip Taylor and Jane Fenwick; second was Eleanor Johnson; third wife was Mary ____who survived him. He died in 1706. Thomas Courtney, Sr. was born ca1641 and was the some of James Courtney (d. 1642) and Mary Lawne who m. second, Daniel Clocker. 1658: Mary Clocker, wife of Daniel Clocker and relict of James Courtney, recorded the cattle mark of her son, Thomas Courtney. 1/7/1660: Mary Clocker, mother of Thomas Courtney, with her husband, Daniel Clocker, released her son to do for himself, he now being of the age of 19. (Archives of Maryland). I think you're mixing up the men named John Johnson again. The one who died in 1687 did have a daughter named Susan. The one who died in 1692 is the one who had a daughter named Sarah--no daughter named Susan. Will of John Johnson, SMC: 4/10/1687-12/9/1687. Eldest son: John at majority, 100 ac. "Westham" bought of Edward Barber, son of Luke Barber. Daughter: Mary, personal estate. Son: James, personal estate. Younger daughter: Susan, personal estate. Wife: Mary, Exec. and residuary legatee of personal estate. Wit: John Vadry, Robert Frazier, Thomas Edwards. (Maryland Calendar of Wills). Your transcript below is incorrect--the younger daughter was Susan unless you found an error in the original will. John Burch, d. 1769, husband of Mary Ann Chunn, was the son of Thomas Burch. Thomas Burch was a brother of John Burch (d. 1734) who married Mary Johnson. Thomas and John were the sons of Oliver Burch and Barbara Tennison. I don't know that John Burch, Jr. ever married, but he was born in 1724 and was living as late as 1770. Jerry, I don't recall whether "Jones" came from Donnelly or not, but I've found nothing to prove this is true. Fresco says that Mary, sister of Fobbs Roberts of SMC, m. by 1687, John Johnson. This is a different John Johnson. Fobbe Roberts had a sister who married _____Johnson and they had two children: Eleanor Johnson who married Thomas Courtney and John Johnson (this John Johnson died bef. 29 Jul 1692 and married Sarah ____who m. second, Philip Cox). Your line involves Mary ____who married first, John Johnson (died 1687) and second, John Rose. I don't have parents for Samuel Johnson (died 1749 in Charles County) who married Mary Dement. Well, The reason I asked is that Mary, the wife of John Rose, was first married to John Johnson (d. 1688). Johnson, John,St, Mary's Co. 10th Apr., 1687; 9th Dec., 1687. To eld. son John at majority, 100 A., Westham, bought of Edward Barber, son of Luke Barber. To dau. Mary, son James, and to younger dau. Sarah, personalty. Wife Mary, extx. and residnary legatee of personal estate. Test: Jno. Vaudry, Robt, Frayzer, Thos. Edwards. 4. 282. John Johnson 10.185 A SM £98.9.7 Sep 27 1688 The amount of the inventory also included #4202. Payments to: Capt. Pile, John Blomfeild. Executrix: Mary Rose, wife of John Rose. Then there was a guy named Fobbe Roberts (d. 1692) Roberts, Fobbe,St. Mary's Co.,10th June, 1692; 22nd Oct., 1692. To niece Ellinor Courtney and hrs., ½ of estate. To neph. John Johnson and hrs., residue of estate. Ex. not given. Test: Thos. Wyane, Jno. Baker. 6. 4. MARYLAND CALENDAR OF WILLS: Volume 2 So, if he was the uncle of John Johnson, then Mary would be his sister, thus the wife of John Johnson (d. 1688) was Mary Roberts who married secondly, John Rose. Having said this, there were many John Johnsons arround at the time and I just have nerver really investigated them to make sure this was right which is why I asked the question. And of course, there is a relationship beteween these Johnsons and the Clarkes, in paticular Leonard Clarke.
